SIGP Supporters Northwestern alumni, staff, central administration and university friends generously fund the Summer Internship Grant Program. The Alumnae of Northwestern University, Council of One Hundred and Buffett Institute for Global Studies are among the major contributors.
Why give?
We are thrilled to see the number of summer interns grow to 255 in 2015. One of the joys of being a SIGP donor is the opportunity for our Alumnae Directors to interact with students—to hear first-hand about their summer experience and its impact on their choice of career. This experience confirmed that I want to pursue a career in this industry upon graduation. I am incredibly grateful for the support I got through this grant, and my hope is to be able to give future NU students this same opportunity that alumni gave to me this summer. WCAS Sophomore 2015 SIGP Recipients
Since the inception of SIGP, student demand for support to pursue unpaid summer experiences continues to increase. Without SIGP, the majority of selected students would need to turn down their summer experience or supplement it with a second job. Financial support for SIGP goes directly to students to pay for living and travel expenses during the summer of their unpaid experiences.
If it wasn't for SIGP,
I would not have been able to have this incredible opportunity
to fall in love with magazine journalism and learn more about the industry! -Medill Sophomore SIGP offers students an opportunity that would otherwise be either impractical or impossible. It is often the unpaid internships that allow students the most meaningful, impactful and hands-on experiences. Gaining valuable experiences and skills should not be limited by a salary. SIGP allows students to
pursue what is most interesting and valuable to them, rather than what is most profitable. -WCAS Sophomore
It was exciting to immerse myself at the intersection of engineering and policy.
Without SIGP, I would never have been able to have such an experience, and I am incredibly thankful to have been given this opportunity to explore a unique career path. -McCormick Junior
My views expanded a lot this summer, and
I got to work at my dream not-for-profit organization while having the financial means to do so. -SoC First Year
