I’ve always thought it would be kind of weird being an actor and doing “intimate” scenes with someone you barely know. Although, I guess it would be weirder still to act out those scenes across from a friend. That’s apparently what happened with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, who co-star in the brilliant sci-fi-meetsromance-meets action flick The Adjustment Bureau, out this month. “It’s so embarrassing to kiss somebody who is your friend,” Blunt says. “Matt and I had become friends and I had got to know his wife Lucy, so during [romantic scenes] I laughed the whole time!” Well, they had me fooled. I’m a hopeless romantic at the best of

times, but watching this film film, my heart was literally lite t ralllly pounding poundi pou nding ng as the intriguing plot unfolded, and I held out hope that they would somehow find their way back to each other! Not quite so romantic... Owen Wilson’s hilarious new comedy, Hall Pass, in which he scores a week off from his marriage. Other movies to hit shelves this month include the genre-bending Western The Warrior’s Way, Anthony Hopkins getting his serious scare on in The Rite, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at his brawny best in Faster. There’s also action aplenty in I Am Number Four and Limitless, and for the kids (and the kids at heart), you can’t go past Rango, about a charming chameleon with an identity crisis who winds up lost in the wild, wild west. With Johnny Depp lending his vocals to the title character it’s got ‘family movie night’ written all over it. Enjoy!

Season seven was “a very exciting time for the show”, says Weatherly, who has been infusing his own brand of charm into the character of Tony DiNozzo since the series launched in 2003. As the plot progresses, by the end of the season, a colleague dies, a storyline that Weatherly likens to the shock departure of character Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander), who died during the season two finale. “One colleague dies, and another one is injured [during the season seven finale],” Weatherly confirms to Entertainment Weekly magazine. “What’s interesting on NCIS are the allegiances; everyone is loyal to Gibbs and unquestioning of the decisions that he makes. And Jesse Stern, who is responsible for the finale, does a really great job of playing on those audience expectations.”

Entourage Season 7 The idea for hit television show Entourage came about when Mark Wahlberg’s assistant asked if he could film the movie star and his friends goofing around. Although the original idea was to create a documentary, some aspects of the footage were deemed too dark for television, so they went in a totally new direction: “What if I created a fictional storyline,” Wahlberg thought, “loosely based around my life and my experiences in Hollywood as an up and coming actor?” The result? The hit TV series Entourage, which he created and executive produces. Central character Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) is a movie star living in Los Angeles, and joining him on his wild ride are his best friends. I AM NUMBER FOUR (JULY 6)

town of Dirt. When he lands a gig as the local sheriff, he is forced to play the hardest role of his life as he goes up against the meanest, most rotten Wild West characters ever conceived.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton team up in this graphic action thriller. Johnson plays Driver – a getaway driver who is fresh out of prison after taking the fall for a bungled heist. Now he’s on the trail – with the help of his hot-as-hell 1971 Chevy Malibu SS – of the guys who set him up and murdered his brother. However, a veteran cop (Thornton) and a hit man hired by the freaked-out bad guys are on a mission to take Driver down before he carries out his bloody revenge.

If you squealed yourself stupid over Twilight, then you’ll have a similar reaction to this teen sci-fi hit. Alex Pettyfer plays John, the devastatingly handsome new kid at school. When an artistic outcast develops a crush on him, she soon comes to the realisation that her dream-boat is harboring a mysterious secret – namely, he’s an alien. As well as playing his part in an angsty teen romance, John must also be ever-vigilant against the alien bad guys that wish to do him harm.

Writer Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy concludes with this final chapter that’s shrouded in gothic goodness. We find anti-heroine, Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace) recovering from bullet wounds in hospital with a police guard. She’s also awaiting trial for a triple murder, and in order to find justice, she is forced to open up to a magazine journalist (Michael Myqvist) about the sordid details of her childhood in a psychiatric institution and the corrupt officials who kept her prisoner there.

BLUE CRUSH 2 (OUT NOW)

If you thought your onthe-job training was tough, spare a thought for apprentice hit man, Steve McKenna (Ben Foster). He’s been tasked with learning the ropes from veteran gun-for-hire, Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham), who specialises in making his victims appear to have succumbed to an accidental death. To complicate the situation further, Bishop has recently killed his friend and mentor, Harry McKenna (Donald Sutherland), who is also young Steve’s father.

Who can resist Anthony Hopkins as a creepy bad guy? Here he plays Father Lucas Trevant, a possessed priest who has been transformed from man of God into a demonic vessel of Satan and is caught beating children on the steps of his church. Enter American seminary student and sceptic, Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), whose faith is tested when he is tasked with exorcising Father Trevant’s demons and banishing Satan himself from his earthly inhabitance.

The Farrelly Brothers take on the sanctity of marriage in their latest raunchy comedy. Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are best friends and two suburban husbands who find themselves bored by their predictable lives. When their wives, Maggie (Jenna Fischer) and Grace (Christina Applegate), grant the buddies a week off from marriage, they delight in rediscovering their bachelorhood. However, their fantasy comes crashing down when their wives seek their own extra-marital adventures.

Matt Damon stars as David Norris, a politician who has overcome childhood tragedy to build a very successful career. However, when he falls for rebellious ballerina, Elise (Emily Blunt), the mysterious Adjustment Bureau is sent to put David back on track with their supernatural ability to control the mechanisms of fate. However, David is not content to live a predetermined destiny and wakes the sleeping monster when he decides to fight back.

Here’s one to keep the winter blues at bay. Dana (Sasha Jackson) is an 18-year-old up-and-coming surfer with the killer skills to match her cover-girl beauty. When her father puts the pressure on to swap the beach for a classroom, Dana runs to South Africa in search of the world’s biggest surf and a connection with her late South African mother. With her mother’s journal in hand, she pledges to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing the treacherous break at Jefferys Bay.

RANGO (JULY 7) With Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski at the helm, this is animation for adults. Full of rich inside jokes from classic westerns such as Once Upon a Time in the West and Chinatown, and hilarious impersonations of genre icons including Clint Eastwood and John Huston, there’s plenty of meat here for serious film buffs. However, if you’re just in it for a good time, you’ll get that too. Johnny Depp voices Rango, a lonely chameleon with acting ambitious who finds himself in the lawless

WORDS Shane Conroy

You saw Bradley Cooper clowning around in The Hangover, but here he takes his game to an all-new level as he more than holds his own opposite co-stars Robert De Niro and Abbie Cornish. Cooper plays wild-boy writer Eddie Morra – think a big-screen adaptation of Californication’s Hank Moody – who stumbles upon a secretive new brain-enhancing pill, which turns the screw-up writer into a virtual genius. Mentored by financial guru Carl Van Loon (De Niro), he comes a Wall Street whiz kid, until the bad guys circle for a piece of the action. (JULY 28)

[MUSIC]

BEYONCE: 4 (OUT NOW)

This is Beyonce as you’ve never quite heard her before. She has revealed that this album was inspired in part by the music of Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and coproduced by her rapper husband, Jay-Z, which has resulted in an eclectic mix of styles that have produced a genuinely SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE: WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN (OUT NOW)

After two gold albums, Los Angeles pop band Selena Gomez & the Scene have set their hotly anticipated third album free. Lead single “Who Says” is an upbeat radio-friendly track that will be on the lips of all the teen girl-power legions around the world. The video to follow-up single, “Love You Like a Love Song”, was filmed on Malibu Beach with some questionably painted pink horses (go figure) and might provide something of an insight into how she feels about boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

unique album. Lead single, “Run the World (Girls)” presents a more aggressive Beyonce than previously seen in a girl-power anthem that channels Lady Gaga. Fela Kuti’s influence is most strongly felt on “Till the End of Time” and midtempo “Best Thing I Never Had” keeps the heavy drums coming. But fans will be glad to know that the big vocals are still here. The expansive “1+1” is a classic Beyonce ballad and “Countdown” samples Boys II Men in a blast from the past.

SYNDICATE: SELF-TITLED

(OUT NOW) Having worked on this album with some of the biggest producers in rock – including Jeff Blue of Linkin Park, Brandon Friesen of Nickleback and Mike Fraser of AC/DC – it’s hard to believe that this Aussie rock outfit has remained relatively under the radar. But that’s all about to change with the release of their superb debut record. From the balls-out hard rock of “Bring It On” and radio-friendly pop-rock hooks in “Shout” and “All My Life” to piano ballad “Falling Apart”, this band is the complete package.

DIGITALISM: I LOVE YOU DUDE (OUT NOW)

JUMP JUMP DANCE DANCE: SELF-TITLED

Almost four years after the release of the their acclaimed debut album, Idealism, comes the sophomore release from these hyped music makers. But it has been well worth the wait as the German electro duo has brought their A-game to this record. The album is overflowing with hot rhythms desperately fighting to get out on the dance floor as well as plenty of pop goodness, including a guest spot by Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas on “Forrest Gump”. He also co-wrote “Circles”.

(OUT NOW) While their name might sound like a Playschool special, we can assure you that Los Angeles electrorock duo Jump Jump Dance Dance is the real deal. In their debut album and lead single “Show Me The Night”, vocalist Chris Carter and DJ Simon Lewicki (formerly of Groove Terminator) recklessly walk the line between dance and rock music. The result is a completely new, genredefying sound that will no doubt prove to be a key influence on the future evolution of indie rock.

MINISTRY OF SOUND: ANNUAL 2011 (JULY 8)

INCUBUS: IF NOT NOW, WHEN? (JULY 15)

LIMP BIZKIT: GOLD COBRA

Ministry of Sound retains its reputation as the home of the hottest club compilations with yet another stunner in this year’s annual release. Hook N Sling and Tommy Trash were called in to do the honours at the mixing deck, and they’ve come up with 41 killer tracks from a wide range of the genre’s biggest names, including Swedish House Mafia, Miami Horror, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Duck Sauce, Armand Van Helden and Calvin Harris to name just a few.

The seventh studio album from the California rockers marks somewhat of a different direction for the band. That hard-rock edge has been swapped for a softer, more pop-friendly sound, and that’s not a bad thing. The vocals seem more relaxed than usual and the rhythm section sounds more polished than ever before. Old-school Incubus fans may be disappointed, but listen without preconceived ideas and you’ll discover an evolving band that’s fulfilling its potential.

ADAM HARVEY: FALLING INTO PLACE (JULY 8)

Three-time ARIA Award nominee Adam Harvey could be excused for feeling very comfortable at the top of the country charts, and his brand new album featuring 13 new tracks is certainly good enough to keep him sitting pretty. This time round he’s gone back to his Australian country roots. After a stint in Nashville, he’s been boot-scooting throughout Australia on an epic tour that has informed his new work and imbued it with an energy that other musicians would do well to match.

(OUT NOW) Check yourself before you wreck yourself, because the Fred Durst-led numetal band is dropping its first record by the original lineup since the 2000 hit, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. Gold Cobra is the band’s new album and lead single, “Shotgun” has already rocked to the number-one spot on the iTunes Rock Chart. The standard release features 13 new songs, or fork out for the Deluxe Edition and score an extra four new tracks.

FATTY GETS A STYLIST: SELF-TITLED WORDS Shane Conroy

Brisbane based singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke has garnered quite a following since first scooping the ARIA Award for Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Album in 2007. Two albums and a viral hit – “Are You Fucking Kidding Me? (The Facebook Song)” – later, she’s joined forces with her husband, Keir Nuttall, to create alternative pop duo Fatty Gets a Stylist. Their brand of alternative pop features almost unrecognisable vocals by Miller-Heidke who sings in a much lower register, yet the genre-busting sound and addictive hooks in tracks such as “Are You Ready?” and “You Got the World” are completely irresistible. [ BLU-RAY]

APOCALYPSE NOW (JULY 27) Directed by the great Francis Ford Coppola, this 1979 Oscar winner finally comes to Blu-ray to delight the next generation of film fans. Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburn, Harrison Ford and Dennis Hopper are all part of the genuinely all-star cast that presents the original Vietnam War epic by which all others are judged. As the war rages on, US Army Captain Willard (Sheen) is given the top-secret mission to cross the border into Cambodia and hunt down and kill a

Green Beret colonel (Brando) who has strayed from his orders and unleashed his own violent vigilante campaign against the Viet Cong. When Willard arrives in his target’s compound, what he finds shocks him to his core.

THE WAY BACK (JULY 28) Colin Farrell and Ed Harris star in this Peter Weirdirected psychological drama. When a small group of prisoners escape from a Siberian gulag under the cover of a snow storm, they are faced with the daunting challenge of trekking 4,000 miles to safety in India. Led by Polish Janusz (Jim Sturgess), the group consists of a cynical American, a Russian thug, an awkward accountant, an artistic pastry chef, a priest and a nightblind Pole. Remarkably, it’s inspired by a true story.

THE THIN RED LINE (JULY 27) Nominated for an incredible seven Oscars, this 1998 World War II drama stars Nick Nolte and Sean Penn in near career-best roles. During the strategically vital battle of Guadalcanal, a group of young US soldiers is brought in to relieve the battle-wary Marines. As the horrors of war rage around them, the growing bond between the men becomes as important as life itself. Co-stars include George Clooney, John Travolta, Woody Harrelson, John Cusak, John C. Reilly and Adrien Brody.

BEASTLY (JULY 7) A very modern-day take on the Beauty and the Beast concept in which MaryKate Olsen and Vanessa Hudgens star alongside talented new-comer Alex Pettyfer. Kyle (Pettyfer) is the big man on campus at his New York high school, but when he plays a prank on a bewitching fellow student (Olsen), he falls victim to a curse that turns him ugly (in this case, some facial tattoos and extreme piercing do the trick). However, for Kyle’s pre-curse crush, Lindy (Hudgens), beauty is only skin deep.

AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME (AUGUST 3) Do I make you horny, baby? Perhaps not, but Mike Myers as retro British super-spy Austin Powers will certainly make you giggle. This 1999 sequel to the original spy spoof calls upon Austin to travel back in time to 1969 to recapture his ‘mojo’ from his nemesis, Dr. Evil (also played by Myers). He does so with the help of sexy Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) who could arouse a pile of wet rags, while Dr. Evil and his mini-me (Verne Troyer) conspire to put a gigantic cannon on the moon.

EVER AFTER: A CINDERELLA STORY (JULY 27) This contemporary retelling of the Cinderella fairytale casts the beguiling Drew Barrymore in the princess role. After the death of her doting father, Danielle (Barrymore) is bullied into servitude by her stepmother (Anjelica Houston), despite which, Danielle grows into a charming, happy-golucky young lady. When she crosses paths with a handsome prince (Dougray Scott), she needs some very special help in order to escape her family and live happily ever after.

POINT BREAK (AUGUST 3) Well before he donned black leather for The Matrix, Keanu Reeves was FBI agent turned surfer, Johnny Utah, in this 1991 action thriller. When a gang of Los Angeles surfers led by sandy-haired Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) are suspected as the men behind a string of daring bank robberies, undercover FBI agent Utah is sent to infiltrate the group. Complications arise, however, when Utah is drawn into the surfing lifestyle and ultimately questions his allegiance.

PLATOON (JULY 27) This four-time Oscar-winner introduced a young Charlie ‘Winning’ Sheen to adoring 1986 audiences. Directed by Oliver Stone, it tells the story of Chris Taylor (Sheen), an idealistic young US solider who dropped out of college to join the war in Vietnam. However, he finds the reality of war a bitter pill to swallow as the extreme jungle warfare, and the power battle between his commanding officers (Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe), increasingly eat away at his sanity.

MORTAL KOMBAT (AUGUST 3) This 1995 action thriller was an early pioneer in the video-game-to-film transition. Mortal Kombat is an ancient tradition in which the supernatural warriors of the out-world take on Earth’s most fearsome fighters in a martial arts tournament that decides the fate of the planet. The out-world requires just one final victory to take control of Earth, but standing in its way is a small but brave band of mortal warriors led by Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) and Lui Kang (Robin Shou).

ENTOURAGE SEASON 7 WORDS Shane Conroy

Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his boys return for an all-new ride. After surviving a stunt driving accident on a film set, Vinnie begins searching for new thrills and finds them in a new relationship with porn star Sasha Grey and in his drug and alcohol habits that are spiraling out of control. Meanwhile, uber agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), is facing his own struggles as he loses his bid to bring an NFL team to LA and, worse, begins to lose control of his tenuous family life. As for the hapless Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon) – you guessed it – he’s out of work again. (JULY 13)

F.E.A.R. 3 360, PS3, PC The F.E.A.R. series made a name for itself by combining rock solid firstperson shooter action with genuinely freaky horror elements, inspired by the movie The Ring. This threequel has the most twisted and freakish storyline yet, but also adds a cover system and co-op gameplay - each gamer controlling a vastly different character with unique gameplay - to the experience.

STOKED: BIG AIR EDITION 360, PC Just in time for the snow season, one of the finest snowboarding games of recent times is getting a Big Air Edition. The game made a name for itself with its realistic - if difficult to master - trick system, amazing weather effects and the ability to catch a helicopter to anywhere on the seven real world mountains to test your skills. Being able to ride the slopes with friends in multiplayer seals the deal.

RESIDENT EVIL: THE MERCENARIES 3D 3DS Stripping away the involved storylines for which the Resident Evil series has become famous, this action focused game simply asks gamers to survive waves of enemy attacks. It’s best played with a friend in coop, as you combine the series’ classic over-theshoulder shooting or the new first-person view and melee combat in arenas inspired by levels from Resident Evil 4 and 5. It’s visually spectacular, too.

[GADGETS] SONY ERICSSON XPERIA PLAY SONY PHONESTATION Sony has its fingers in pretty much every facet of the consumer technology industry - TVs, phones, cameras, video recorders, Blu-ray player, consoles... we could go on - and its finally getting around to combining some of them into multipurpose products. We’ve seen the Bravias and PS3s team-up, now it’s the smartphone wing – Ericsson – that is taking some tips from the handheld gaming department. The Xperia Play

OLIVE 06HD MODERN JUKEBOX While we still love our classic CD collection, there is no doubting that the onset of MP3 players and smartphones have made MP3s and other audio files a modern necessity. The Olive 06HD is a brilliant little device that bridges the gap for music fans, effectively acting like a new age jukebox. It’s got all the audio output/ input holes you could want, wireless and wired

offers a great multimedia experience, with good speakers, a friendly userinterface and excellent game controls. The design is compact, although it does feel a little flimsy and we would’ve preferred more internal storage. It uses the Android OS and is a more than adequate phone, but we’re more interested in seeing a good run of exclusive games for it before we’re completely sold.

networking capabilities and a great-sized, 2TB hard-drive (that’s sound dampened to boot). However, on top of that, it has a CD drive that allows you to put in your albums and rip them to digital files (or burn them in reverse). The sound quality is excellent, the controls intuitive – including a LCD touchscreen – you can stream internet radio and it’s a cinch to drag-anddrop files across from your computer. A little ripper!

systems in today’s marketplace are too space consuming for many Australian houses. This nifty device acts to get around that. The 2.1 system’s subwoofer wraps around the back of the TV like a bracket, allowing

GARMIN APPROACH S1 FORE! It looks like an ordinary watch, but it is not. Yes its bright screen will tell you what time of day it is, and its weatherproof casing ensures you can use it in all conditions, but it also has GPS technology builtin to it. This, combined with the 600 golf courses Garmin has mapped itself (with more coming down the track), means that while you’re shooting a

round, your watch can tell you exactly how far it is to the pin, and in what direction you need to shoot. Great for helping you select your club, and even better if you’re anything like us and spend so much time in the rough you completely lose your bearings on where the hole is located. For a small additional fee, you can add a further 16,500 courses from North America and 5,400 from

APPLE IMAC 27” CUTE AND COOL The mighty Apple machine continues to power forward, recently replacing Google as “the most powerful brand in the world,” we’re told. No matter how much you want to hate on Apple for being the tall poppy, you simply can’t deny the diverse functionality and slick design of their products. The purveyor of electronics white has just released its latest range of iMacs and the 27” option is truly a thing of beauty, especially as it comes with a trackpad as well as standard keyboard and mouse inputs. It’s not all about

good looks, either, as there is plenty of grunt under the hood. A second generation Intel Core i5 quad-core processor and plenty of customisation flexibility (including a maximum 16Gb of memory and 2TB hard drive) ensures that this machine can power most of your

two slim speakers to then cling around the edges. The current model can expand from 32” to 42” flatscreens, but that range is set to increase in the future. The key point though is the fantastic sound, which puts the standard TV speakers to shame. Sure to anger the neighbours in no time.
