Letter from Eric
StilleHappy Holidays!
Chairman of the Board’Tis the season for family, friends, food and fun! In a perfect world, we’d leave it at that, but all too often it’s also when stress tries to sneak in uninvited. While there’s no surefire solution to keeping this unwanted guest at bay, here’s something we hold near and dear at Nugget Market—ROCKS.
You may have heard the boulder and pebble analogy before. Essentially, if you go to fill a jar with rocks and start with the small ones, they’ll fill it to the top leaving no room for the big ones. On the flip side, if you start with the big rocks, you still have room for all the pebbles and sand to fill the space between. The thing is, the size of the rock shows how important it is!
This holiday season, instead of stressing the small stuff, I encourage us all to think about what matters most to us and intentionally prioritize the biggest rocks in our lives. Start filling your jar with these and all the fun little extras will fall into place.
However you choose to celebrate, I hope your holiday season rocks!
Sincerely,
Eric Stille and the Nugget Market FamilyHygge from the Heart
he holiday season means many things to many people, but at the heart of it all is the people we love. When it comes time for your family (or found family) gathering, one of the easiest ways to cut down on stress and focus on what matters most is to keep things simple. Enter classic comfort foods. From pasta night to enchiladas and more, these go-to goodies are great for easy entertaining and homey hospitality. Make one or two dishes yourself, then let great products from trusted brands do the rest of the work for you so you can enjoy the fun with good company, good food and good times.

RECIPES
Shoyu vs. Tamari
What’s the Difference?
Technically, both shoyu and tamari are types of soy sauce made from fermented soybeans. The difference is whether or not they’re also made with wheat—shoyu is and tamari isn’t. Shoyu has a stronger, saltier flavor making it a great all-purpose cooking and dipping sauce, whereas tamari is milder, gluten-free and delicious in dressings or sauces where you want the umami to shine.
Yamasa Shoyus (Japanese Brewed Soy Sauces)
Trusted by chefs in Japan and the world over, Yamasa has been crafting authentic, artisanal soy sauces for more than four centuries! Nowadays they brew traditional Japanese sauces just up the way in Oregon with only the finest ingredients and no added MSG, creating pure, unparalleled flavor. Both their Shoyu and Tamari have a distinct red color and balanced umami taste ideal for adding rich complexity soups, stir-fries and more.
Yearning for more Yamasa? Try their new Artisanal Katsu Sauce sweet, tart, savory and delicious on just about anything!

Madagascar Bourbon
Pure Vanilla Beans
If you want the whole vanilla experience, start with these premium beans sourced from the Bourbon Island of Madagascar. Hand-selected for freshness and aroma, they offer a sweet, almost creamy flavor and stunning presentation.
Sometimes the simplest ingredients can make the biggest impact. Take vanilla for example. What all too often can be taken for granted as basic or boring (forsooth!) is actually a rich and complex flavor that can shine in a multitude of recipes. From extracts to paste and even the beans themselves, vanilla in its purest form can bring out the best in more than just baking. Check it out!

PRO TIP: Use any form in any recipe with this conversion: 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste = 1 tablespoon vanilla extract = 1 whole vanilla bean.

How to be • Potluck • MVP
People may not say it out loud, but we all know there’s some level of competition when it comes to a potluck. Whether you’re going all out with a complicated family recipe that takes two days to make or simply displaying something delicious from your local Nugget Market on a fancy platter (no shame in that!), bring your A-game with these pro tips, pointers and recipe suggestions for a winning strategy.
SCORE SOME POINTS KITCHEN COACH POINTERS
Portable
Along with tasting great, the best potluck recipes are easy to store and transport—think one big bowl, pan or casserole dish.
Easy to Eat
Choose something that’s both easy to serve and eat standing up like salads, dips, antipasto, cookies or festive finger foods.
Plentiful
While having no leftovers may seem impressive, make sure you bring enough for all the guests (including the unexpected ones).
Inviting
Label your dish so people know what it is (food allergies are real!) and pre-cut things like cake so guests know it’s okay to dig in.
Say No to Stress
Make things easier on yourself by planning ahead, choosing a doable dish or picking something up from your local Nugget Market.
Home Field Advantage
If you’re hosting, take the guesswork out of the menu by assigning courses or having guests sign up for different dishes in advance.
Be Prepared
If you’re a guest, try to bring a dish that’s already assembled, easy to serve (bring a serving utensil!) and doesn’t rely on electricity or your host’s kitchen.
Play it (Food) Safe
Know your times and temps for food safety! In general, perishable dishes should not be left out more than 2 hours but shelf-stable foods are fair game.

Savory Palmiers
Top puff pastry with a tapenade-style filling and give it a little roll to create this quick-and-easy appetizer with impressive presentation.
PREP TIME: 15 MINUTES
COOK TIME: 10–12 MINUTES
YIELD: 12–14 PALMIERS
INGREDIENTS
• 8 ounces puff pastry, rolled into a ¼-inch-thick rectangle
• All-purpose flour
• ½ cup Kalamata olives, chopped fine
• ½ cup green olives, chopped fine
• ¼ cup roasted garlic, chopped fine
• 1 tablespoon thyme, chopped fine
PREPARATION
Heat oven to 400°F.
Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface.
PRO TIP
When it comes to easy appetizers, puff pastry is your new best friend. Top with all sorts of savory flavors, bake and enjoy, or go sweet for a stunning and simple dessert!
Mix together the remaining ingredients in a bowl and spread evenly over the puff pastry. Cut the rectangle in half lengthwise to make two strips. Gently roll one long edge of a strip into the center and then roll the opposite edge in so the two rolls meet in the middle and resemble a double scroll. Press lightly to stick the two rolls together. Repeat with the second strip.
Cut into ½-inch slices. Lay out on the prepared baking sheet to expose the filling. Bake until golden brown, about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly to crisp.
Giesen 0% Sparkling Brut
Don’t forget the drinks! Whether your fellow partygoers enjoy a bit of bubbly or prefer something on the softer side, Giesen 0% Wines are the perfect crowd-pleaser everyone can enjoy. Giesen makes their full-flavored 0% Sparkling Brut with New Zealand grapes, then carefully removes the alcohol while preserving the wine’s fresh, crisp flavor and pleasant effervescence. Matches Made In Heaven
A
When two things go together well—really well—it seems almost cosmically ordained. It’s all about balance, after all. When contrasting elements mesh and complementary aspects lift each other up, it creates an unearthly, divine pairing that makes you thankful for your senses. It’s written in the stars! Explore these heavenly pairings of cheese and booze and let your spirits sing.
HEAVENLY CHEESE TO PAIR WITH EVERYTHING Jasper Hill Farm Bayley Hazen Blue
Bayley Hazen Blue, a blue cheese that’s developed a loyal following thanks to its fudge-like texture, toasted-nut sweetness, anise spice notes and lingering umami, is incredibly versatile—so much so that it pairs well with a bevy of beverages!
MATCHES WITH Château Laribotte Sauternes
For a simple cheese plate, keep it uncomplicated with Château Laribotte Sauternes. Some pairings are so classic you just don’t question it, and sauternes and blue cheese is one of those things! The sweetness in the wine plays off the saltiness and bitterness of the cheese, and its myriad of fresh and dried fruit notes take the place of a fresh fruit plate.
MATCHES WITH Franco Serra Gavi
If you’re crumbling the blue in a spinach and fig salad, opt for Franco Serra Gavi. This crisp wine from Italy provides a yinyang balance to the cheese’s saltiness and creaminess.
MATCHES WITH Clay Shannon Cabernet Sauvignon
For when you’re melting it on a burger (inevitably), try Clay Shannon Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannins in this rich red are just enough to combat the saltiness of the cheese, and the ripe fruit notes balance some of the bitterness of the cheese’s blue veins.
Fromage à Trois with Girl Meets Dirt Spoon Preserves
While pairings are fine and dandy, make your delectable wine-and-cheese duo into a tantalizing trio for three times the bliss. What goes well with wine and cheese? Jam!
PRO TIP:
If you’re looking for all the fun but none of the alcohol, Girl Meets Dirt’s Pear Balsamic pears particularly well with Jasper Hill Farm’s Bayley Hazen Blue
Enter Girl Meets Dirt Spoon Preserves. These whimsical spoon-worthy spreads are more textural than your traditional jam and are literally made to be a part of a pairing (or trio!). Unique flavors like Pear Balsamic, Hot Damn Pepper Jam, Tomato Jam and Rhubarb Lavender are thoughtfully conjured using classic French techniques in copper pots. It’s practically magic!
Jasper Hill Farm Harbison & Napa Cellars Chardonnay
Meet Harbison: a soft-ripened, woodsy and sweet cheese, balanced with lemon, mustard and vegetal flavors. Enter Napa Cellars Chardonnay, a classic Napa Valley specimen that’s fermented and aged in French oak, which gives it a little woodsy note, and its ripe fruit aromas add sweetness and hints of lemon citrus; all of which can be found in the cheese, as well. A very complementary pairing indeed!
Jasper Hill Farm Alpha Tolman & Balletto Russian River Pinot Noir
Alpha Tolman, an Alpine-style cheese, has a buttery, fruity and nutty flavor when young, developing bold meaty, caramelized onion flavors as it matures. Balletto Russian River Pinot Noir really matches the full range of flavors the cheese has—its ripe, plummy fruit notes contrast nicely with Alpha Tolman, while the underlying acidity in the wine keeps its richness from overwhelming the palate.
Dragon’s Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout & Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog
New Holland Brewing Company’s coveted Dragon’s Milk is a robust brew with notes of chocolate and coffee along with sweet undertones of vanilla and oak from the barrel aging process. DIY Fruit Basket
There’s something classic and timeless about a good, old-fashioned fruit basket. Seasonal fruit and savory nuts bring us back to simpler times with fresh flavors and a natural touch perfect for the holidays. Even better, you can build your own with a quick trip to our store and a few simple steps!
Got Fruit?
Pears, apples, pomegranates and citrus—oh my! This rainbow of natural sweetness won’t only look great in your fruit basket, it’ll taste great, too. They’re literally the fruits of the season! Mix it up with different apple or pear varieties for some extra pop. Drop by your local Nugget Market’s Produce Department to discover just how many options you have!
1. Base Basics
A fruit basket can be in any kind of vessel from a wicker basket, crate or tin to a decorative plate with a lip. Just make sure your choice is strong enough to support the filling!
Pro Tip: If making many smaller fruit trays, try using Bambu compostable plates as seen here.
2. Preliminary Padding
Protect your fruit from bruising and add visual interest with an in-between layer. Try using a dish towel, cloth napkins, tissue paper or fresh leaves.
Pro Tip: If your basket is deep, add extra stuffing to fill the space without adding weight.
3. Fruit Filling
Start with larger and sturdier fruits like pomegranates, pears or apples, then add smaller, more delicate fruits like tangerines and persimmons to help keep it stable.
Pro Tip: Consider color and size when selecting your produce—the more tints and types, the merrier!
POM Wonderful Pomegranates
4. Go Nuts
Add another layer of flavor with a variety of nuts! These could be anything from walnuts and pecans to macadamia nuts or chocolate-covered almonds.
Pro Tip: You can also add dried and candied fruits at this stage. Find nuts, dried apricots, candied ginger and more in our Bulk Department!
5. That’s a Wrap
Keep your fruits in place and in view by using a clear wrapping or (as seen pictured) wide strips of parchment paper tied with twine or ribbon.
Pro Tip: For a festive finishing touch, tie a sprig of rosemary or other fresh leaves to the top!
Ah, the divine pomegranate: beautiful, celebrated and grown in California! If you’re the type that doesn’t like pinkened fingers, don’t get frustrated trying to get to the treasured heart of these sweet-tart fruits. Opt for POM Wonderful's freshly packaged arils (a.k.a. those juicy, coveted seeds)! Wish granted!
Level Up Your Gifts
Want to raise your gifting game? It’s easier (and less expensive) than you think! With just a little thought and a lot of love, a few small notions can come together to create something spectacular. Even if gift giving isn’t your native love language, we’re here to help with a few simple tips and tricks sure to touch hearts and make all your present people proud. Happy gifting!
Think of a Theme:
Does your dad love dogs? Did your friend just start practicing yoga? Use something you know your giftee is excited about to ground your gift. From dog-themed dishes to incense or fun, novelty items that pair with their passion, it’s these little thoughts that count!
Think of Things that Nest:
A clever way to build a gift basket is by using one of the gifts as the basket! This nesting doll approach is both convenient and ties the whole thing together for a cohesive presentation. From a tote bag to an oven mitt, almost anything with space to fill can work.
Think of Things that Go Together:
From pre-made gift sets to your own personal picks, a few little things can often be more impactful than one big one. A budding writer might like a fresh journal, a nice pen, a stylish pencil pouch and a candle more than a vintage typewriter (unless that’s in the budget!).
Recipe for Success:
Nugget Market Recipe Card + Shelf-Stable Ingredient(s) + Prep Tool + Serving Ware
For Example:
• Soup Recipe Card + Artisan Dried Beans + Ladle + Ceramic Bowl
• Chai Recipe Card + Spices + Unique Mug + Coaster
• Cocktail Recipe Card + Spirit or Liqueur + Barware + Cocktail Glass
• Succulent Care Card + Fresh Succulent in Cute Pot + Spray Mister
PRO TIP: You don’t have to include every possible product to make an awesome gift! Think of your budget, how much time you have to shop and what would mean the most to your person.

Bring them into the spotlight with some fun themes: after all, they’re the first (and last) thing Santa sees during his soot-dusted sojourn.

So many familiar images of holiday cheer stem from classic Victorian tradition. To keep in touch with those cozy, candlelit antiquarian vibes, stuff your stocking in line with that timeline!

• Accessories or knickknacks
• Self-care items like lotion, lip balm or bath bombs

Pro Tip: As a general stocking stuffing rule, stow heavy stuff at the bottom to foster intrigue and anticipation. Plus, you won't crush the other pressies!

• Coal to fill the remaining 5/6ths of the stocking
