BAITASI SKYWALK By Deandrea, Vijay, Nein

白塔寺空中步 道

The Baitasi Skywalk is a path that connects to the major cultural nodes of the Baitasi hutong. The system starts from the central point, formally known as the Fusuijing building. The building will be redeveloped into a cultural hub to introduce the new and existing culture of the Baitaisi hutong.

Culture talks about the intangible aspects that make us who we are. We tried to distill what culture means for the White Pagoda Area, and how local inhabitants experience this. In our research we found that historically there used to be more living space inside the courtyards, filled with green areas where people would gather to gossip or play board games. Raising singing birds, or training pigeons was another strong cultural element that survived throughout the years. We propose that Baitasi presents itself as a cultural oasis, a peaceful enclave among newly developed business areas.

Provide the locals with the spaces and direct outsiders mostly away from invading the local privacy. 4. GENERATE MORE ACTIVITIES The design is focused on also creating more life to the Baitaisi hutong with the skywalk path as the main attraction.

The Baitaisi skywalk was developed to recreate these lost spaces for the local activities and to share it using a parallel path for outsiders to appreciate their cultural development without disturbing the local living.

In the Baitaisi hutong, there used to be more courtyard living with more green areas where people would gather to gossip or play board games. Releasing the birds in the hutongs was also another strong culture that survived throughout the years. Also, the presence of the Baitaisi temple has a strong presence where people from outside or within would go to pray or meditate.
