Procida è la più piccola delle isole partenopee. E’ la meno “turistica” certo la più autentica. Nata da sette vulcani non più attivi ma ancora visibili, fu abitata sin dal tempo dei Micenei. La bellezza di Procida risiede “nell’essere rimasta” ancora isola, tranquilla, con i suoi ritmi lenti, i suoi usi, le sue tradizioni. Una vacanza sull’isola è unica ed indimenticabile. Resteranno impressi nella mente il centro storico di Terra Murata, Marina Grande, Marina Chiaiolella e, soprattutto, Marina Corricella, un piccolo presepe di case colorate che si specchiano nel mare, set di numerose pellicole cinematografiche. Da visitare l’isolotto di Vivara, Riserva Naturale dello Stato, collegato a Procida con un ponte. Procida is the smallest Neapolitan island. It is the least “touristic” and certainly the most authentic island of all. Born from seven dormant volcanoes that are still visible, it has been inhabited since Mycenaean times. The beauty of Procida lies in the fact that “it still possesses” that quiet island character, with its slow rhythms, customs and traditions. A holiday on this island is unique and unforgettable. The historical centre of Terra Murata, Marina Grande and Marina Chiaiolella will remain fixed in your mind, particularly Marina Corricella, a small crib of coloured houses overlooking the sea that have acted as a backdrop for numerous films. Also worth a visit is the tiny island of Vivara, a State National Reserve connected to Procida through a bridge. Procida ist die kleinste der parthenopäischen Inseln. Sie ist weniger „touristisch“ und mit Sicherheit authentischer als die anderen. Sie entstand aus sieben Vulkanen, die nicht mehr aktiv, deren Krater aber noch sichtbar sind und ist seit mykenischer Zeit bewohnt. Die Schönheit Procidas liegt darin, dass sie noch „Insel geblieben“ ist: ruhig, mit langsamen Rhythmen, mit ihren alten Gebräuchen und Traditionen. Ein Urlaub auf dieser Insel ist einzigartig und wird lange in Erinnerung bleiben. Unvergesslich: der historische Ortskern von Terra Murata, Marina Grande, Marina Chiaiolella und vor allem Marina Corricella, die wie eine kleine Krippe aus bunten Häusern, die sich im Meer widerspiegeln, anmutet und wo viele Kinofilme gedreht wurden. Sehenswert die vorgelagerte kleine Insel Vivara, die Naturschutzgebiet ist und mit Procida über eine Brücke verbunden ist.

Procida ha 13 Km di costa tra spiagge e rocce. Le spiagge sono tutte sabbiose e ben attrezzate. La più frequentata è quella della Chiaiolella per i numerosi servizi presenti. Suggestiva quella del “Pozzo Vecchio”, detta ora Spiaggia del Postino, nel ricordo del film girato da Massimo Troisi. Facilmente raggiungibili e balneabili le rocce del Faro e del Carbogno. The beaches have dark sand: some are very fine in texture and other are gravelly. On arriving at Marina Grande the beach of Silurenza is on the right while the beach of Lingua is on the left. Better equipped beaches are those of Ciracciello, Chiaiolella, and Chiaia. Not to be missed is the beach of Ciraccio nor the splendid lido of Pozzovecchio re-named the Spiaggia del Postino, in memory of Massimo Troisi’s film, which was made here. Beaches only accessible by sea are the Chiaia dell’Asino, Chiaiozza and Sciuscella. Procidas 13 km lange Küste besteht teils aus Stränden, teils aus Felsen. Alle Strände sind gut ausgestattete Sandstrände, von denen der „Chiaiolella“-Strand der beliebteste ist. Aber auch der „Pozzo Vecchio”-Strand, der mittlerweile umgetauft wurde zu „Postino”-Strand nach dem gleichnamigen Film von Massimo Troisi (Il Postino – Der Postmann), der dort gedreht wurde, ist sehr reizvoll. Die Felsen am Leuchtturm („Faro“) und von „Carbogno“ sind leicht zu erreichen und das Meer ist leicht zugänglich.

Procida è molto legata alle tradizioni, e partecipa con intensità a due avvenimenti che sintetizzano la storia religiosa e marinara: La Processione del Cristo Morto e dei Misteri e la Sagra del Mare. La Processione si svolge all’alba del Venerdì Santo. Da Terra Murata, a braccia, giovani isolani sostengono i cosiddetti Misteri, tavole iconograﬁche con episodi della vita e morte di Cristo. Oltre ai Misteri, nel corteo del Venerdì, viene portata a spalla la statua lignea del Cristo Morto, opera dello scultore napoletano Carmine Lantriceni. L’evento sprigiona forte commozione, sull’onda delle marce funebri della banda musicale. La sera del Giovedì Santo ha luogo,invece, la Processione degli Apostoli incappucciati che visitano i cosiddetti Sepolcri, allestiti nelle otto parrocchie procidane. La Sagra del Mare, al di là dell’aspetto ludico, vive di due momenti: il lancio a mare della corona di alloro, nelle acque del canale di Procida, e l’elezione della Graziella, che ricorda la protagonista dell’omonimo romanzo di Alphonse Lamartine, scritto nel 1852. Lo scrittore si innamora della fanciulla procidana che muore d’amore alla sua partenza per Parigi. L’elezione della Graziella rinnova la dolcezza delle donne procidane che, per l’occasione indossano il costume d’epoca, alla greca. Nel segno del turismo culturale, vanno ricordati il “Premio letterario Elsa Morante”; “Procida Portoni Aperti”, la visita agli androni dei palazzi storici; “l’Isola del Postino – Movietour”, dedicata ai luoghi del cinema; il “Presepe Vivente”, rievocativo delle antiche usanze locali, allestito nel centro storico. Per il turismo enogastronomico ricordiamo le Sagre dedicate al “Limone” ed al “Carciofo”, prodotti tipici nazionali, ed al “Vino”. Procida is strongly attached to its tradition and its inhabitants eagerly participate in two events that epitomize the island’s religious and maritime history: the Procession of the Mysteries or of the Dead Christ, and the Sea Festival. The Procession is held at dawn on Good Friday. From Terra Murata, young islanders carry the so-called “Mysteries”, iconological panels depicting episodes of the life and death of Christ on their shoulders. On the evening of Maundy Thursday the Procession of the Hooded Apostles visit the so-called “Sepulchres”, erected in Procida’s eight parish churches. This procession is organized by the Confraternità dei Bianchi (White Confraternity) whilst the Good Friday procession by the Confraternità dei Turchini (Deep Blue Confraternity). Other than the “Mysteries” in the Good Friday procession, a wooden statue of the Dead Christ, made by Neapolitan sculptor Carmine Lantriceni, is also carried shoulder high. Participants wear a white tunic and a deep blue cape. This poignant event, accompanied by the bands’ mournful funeral dirges is highly emotional. Besides its brilliant aspect the Sea Festival has two important moments: the launch of a laurel wreath into the waters of the canal of Procida and the election of Graziella, commemorating the protagonist of the book “Graziella” by Alphonse Lamartine written in 1852. The writer fell in love with a maiden, who died of a broken heart when he left for Paris. The election of Graziella celebrates the gentle grace of the women of Procida dressed in old Greek-style costumes for the occasion. Noteworthy cultural events are the internationally renowned “Procida Literary Awards, L’Isola di Arturo, Elsa Morante” and “Procidaportoniaperti”, tours of the entrance of historical palazzos. For food and wine tourism, there is “Procida… fragrances and ﬂavours”, “Sagra del Vino” and the “Lemon Festival”.

Procida ist seinen Traditionen sehr verbunden und nimmt regen Anteil an zwei Veranstaltungen, in denen Bezug auf die religiöse Geschichte sowie auf die Geschichte der Seefahrt genommen wird: Die „Processione del Cristo Morto e dei Misteri” (Prozession des toten Christus und der Mysterien) und das Volksfest zu Ehren des Meeres „Sagra del Mare“. Die Prozession findet am Karfreitag im Morgengrauen statt. Von Terra Murata aus tragen die Jugendlichen der Insel die sogenannten Mysterien, Bildtafeln, die Szenen aus dem Leben und Tod Christi darstellen. Neben den Bildtafeln wird bei der Karfreitagsprozession auch eine hölzerne Christusfigur, der „Tote Christus”, ein Werk des neapoletanischen Bildhauers Carmine Lantricene, auf den Schultern getragen. Die Totenmärsche der Musikkappelle machen diese Veranstaltung sehr anrührend. Am Gründonnerstag zieht hingegen die Prozession der „Apostoli incappucciati” (Apostel mit Kapuze) zu den sogenannten „Sepolcri” (Grabstätten), die in den acht Pfarreien Procidas aufgebaut wurden. Das Volksfest “Sagra del Mare” hat neben seiner spielerischen Seite zwei besondere Momente: Den Wurf eines Lorbeerkranzes ins Meer, in die Gewässer des sogenannten Kanals von Procida, und die Wahl der “Graziella”, die in Erinnerung an die Hauptfigur des gleichnamigen Romans aus dem Jahre 1852 von Alphonse Lamartine veranstaltet wird. Der Schriftsteller verliebt sich in das junge Mädchen aus Procida, das bei seiner Abreise nach Paris aus Liebeskummer stirbt. Mit der Wahl der Graziella huldigt Procida die Anmut seiner Frauen, die für diesen Anlass historische Kostüme griechischen Stils tragen. Unter dem Zeichen des „Kulturtourismus” sollte auf den Literaturpreis „Premio letterario Elsa Morante” hingewiesen werden, sowie auf Veranstaltungen wie „Procida Portoni Aperti”, eine Besichtigung der Vestibüle historischer Paläste, oder „l’Isola del Postino – Movietour” („Die Insel des Postmanns – Movietour”), eine Führung durch die Drehorte von Filmen; auch die lebende Krippe, „Presepe Vivente”, im historischen Ortskern, in der antiker Gebräuche gedacht wird, ist sehenswert. Mit Bezug auf den önogastronomischen Tourismus weisen wir auf die Volksfeste hin, die typischen regionalen Produkte wie Zitronen („Sagra del limone“), Artischocken („Sagra del carciofo“) und Wein („Sagra del vino“) gewidmet sind.
