Since its inception, the festival has made donations or helped community organizations raise more than $120,000. Some of the organizations that have received support include: Irish Dancers of Indianapolis, Irish Arts Academy of Indianapolis, Kitchen Party Ceilidh radio program, Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Ladies AOH, Indiana Irish Cultural Society and St. Vincent de Paul.
Indy’s Irish Festival, an all volunteer 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, was formed in 1996 to host the first festival. Its mission is to preserve, promote and nurture Irish culture, arts, music and history. The festival has grown significantly over the years and with it, so has the festival’s support of charities and community organizations.

Scythian Named after Ukrainian nomads,
Scythian (sith-ee-yin) plays immigrant rock with thunderous energy and technical prowess, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance rock concert. Nashville’s Music City Roots says Scythian is “what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling.” Scythian consists of Alexander Fedoryka, Josef Crosby, Danylo Fedoryka, Tim Hepburn and Larissa Fedoryka.

Socks in the Frying Pan
is comprised of brothers, Shane (accordion) and Fiachra Hayes (fiddle/banjo) accompanied by Aodán Coyne (guitar and vocals). This trio from Country Clare blend Irish traditional melodies with innovative rhythm and melody. Their acoustic musical interplay, three-part harmony and an obvious love for live performance, compliments the traditional essence of both tune and songs in a fresh and entertaining way.
Wild Colonial Bhoys The lads who
started as an Irish ballad-singing acoustic guitar duo have matured into a Celtic rock tour-de-force and now have over a decade, five albums and thousands of miles behind them.

Fresh off of their long history at Epcot Center, they have returned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Irish Fest. Kilted Mile Run Join fellow runners of all ages at the starting line on Blackford Street for the Kilted Mile Run at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20. Don your kilt and be cheered on by bagpipes and fans! Entry fee is $10 if registered on-line in advance and includes festival admission for Sunday only. Registration will also be available for $15 on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the CD / T-Shirt Tent in the center of the park. Medals will be awarded to top finishers, and additional prizes include “Bonniest Knees,” “Least Likely to Finish” among other categories. Awards will be presented at 2:45 p.m. at Nine Irish Brothers’ Stage You have to see this one!

Hurling Demonstrations This national sport of Ireland consists of two 15-player teams that use a stick, called a hurley, to advance the ball, score, block and defend. The women’s version of hurling is called camogie.

Honorary Co-Chairs of the 20th Annual Indy Irish Fest The McGinley Family Brothers have been
named Honorary Chairs of the 20th Annual Indy Irish Fest. The six McGinley Brothers were born and raised into a tight knit Irish Catholic family on the east side of Indianapolis. Sons of Irish immigrants, John and Ann (McNulty) McGinley, the boys were instilled with three important virtues of the old country; pride in their Irish heritage, strength in their Catholic faith and love for their family. The McGinley household consisted of brothers Jack (dec. 2007), Jim, Thomas Joseph, Chuck, Mike and Dan and sisters, Mary Ann and Roselyn (dec. 1977). Combined, the McGinley brothers
have over 100 years of educating, nearly 50 years of coaching, 16 years as state or local A.O.H. President, 35 consecutive years, and counting, as ticket chairman for the annual Kevin Barry Division, A.O.H. St. Patrick’s Celebration and an amazing combined total of 86 descendants. Plus, the McGinley brothers (along with their sister Mary Ann and Jack’s wife Katie) are owners and operators of the oldest Irish pub in Indianapolis, McGinleys’ Golden Ace Inn, which their parents opened just three months after prohibition on March 1st, 1934. We thank them for helping to keep the Irish spirit alive and strong in Indianapolis!
