I
n 2015, I was a bridesmaid in my sorority sister's wedding. As the reception drew to an end, I took a seat to rest at the empty end of a table alone. One of the groomsmen (who turned out to be the groom's fraternity brother) sat down across from me. He introduced himself and we proceeded to converse. As I listened, I realized this was the same guy the bride insisted I meet when she mentioned him at lunch a few months prior. It was at this point that I thought "oh no this is a set up! How awkward."
However, the conversation was very refreshing and so effortless that I no longer cared. At the end of the reception, I didn't hesitate to exchange numbers when he asked. It turned out that the bride had nothing to do with the introduction and fate stepped in! At the time I had returned to school in Jonesboro and he lived here in Northwest Arkansas. We began getting to know each other, but didn't pursue anything serious for quite some time. I relocated to Dallas and then to Little Rock and in that time period, we decided to date long distance. Neither of us had been in a long-distance relationship, but knew that we wanted to make this one work. After about two years of officially dating we knew we were ready to be married. We did not have the means to have a huge party so we began planning a small ceremony with just our immediate family. We wanted to marry somewhere that had an intimate setting with an outdoor element, so when we met with Heidi at the Apollo on Emma we knew it was perfect.
The day we went to pay the deposit we did a tour of the patio area. I was showing Jeremy my "vision" for the ceremony and when I turned around he was down on one knee. I did not have the traditional proposal prior to planning our event as we just hit the ground running with our decision to marry. So it was in that moment that he officially asked me in the sweetest way. We said our vows in that very spot. The day of the ceremony was such a beautiful warm day in November - it was perfect patio
weather! We said our vows in front of our parents and our siblings and our pastor officiated. Afterward we had an intimate reception in a private room at River Grill in Bentonville. Stems by Em provided the florals for our candlelit dinner (along with my bouquet) and Rick's Bakery provided our cake. Although it was a small ceremony, I loved the intimate time we got to spend with our family on one of the most important days of our lives. It's a day I will always remember.
