Barrington Code Enforcement Inspector

CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTOR – FULL TIME The Village of Barrington seeks a qualified individual for full-time Code Enforcement Inspector within the Development Services Department.

Responsibilities include enforcement of Building Codes, Zoning Ordinances, Property Maintenance Codes, Village Ordinances and Sign Regulations, occasional Building inspections, annual life safety inspections, serving on interdepartmental teams as assigned, and consulting with the public regarding codes and violations. Essential functions include investigating complaints, document and maintain records of violations, prepare violation notices, and attendance of the Village’s Administrative Adjudication hearings. This position reports to the Senior Building Inspector.

Requirements include the ability to function in a team environment and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with the public, Village staff, and representatives of other agencies. Requires the ability to work within the Village’s GovQA building permit software and Microsoft Office. The successful candidate will have experience as a multidisciplinary municipal building inspector, code enforcement inspector, construction or equivalent experience and education in a similar field. A driver’s license is required and I.C.C. Certifications are preferred. Candidates shall supply a list of I.C.C. Certifications or have the ability to obtain I.C.C. Certifications within six (6) months of employment. Both continuing education and involvement with professional organizations are expected.

The starting salary range is $27.69 to $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, plus a benefit program inclusive of participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, group health insurance programs, and paid holidays.
