VILLAGE OF FRANKLIN PARK BUILDING DIRECTOR
Franklin Park, Illinois (pop. 18,500) Mature, dynamic, thriving and diverse community located 15 miles west of downtown Chicago and immediately adjacent to O’Hare International Airport seeks experienced Building Director professional interested in serving as Franklin Park’s next Building Director. The Village is a full-service community with a strong industrial and residential base. The Village General Fund budget is $28.5M encompassing the Village’s 150 full-time employees and 50 part-time employees. The Building Director is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Village Board of Trustees. The Department has a $1M dollar operating budget for 2017 with 9 employees in the Department including 4 inspectors. The Department is charged with reviewing and processing building permits, inspecting building permit work, inspecting multi-family structures, maintaining vacant properties, preserving digital documents, implementing Green technology, issuing building permits, conducting Health inspections, overseeing property closings, supporting occupancy applications, and registering contractors. The Director provides leadership for the Department in all aspects of the building community and works closely with other departments, including the Department of Community Development & Zoning on redevelopment projects. With a limited staff, the Director is responsible for planning and directing the functions and operations of the Building Department, including inspections and permit review. In 2015, the department received over 1,775 building permits, electrical permits and sign permits. The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and seven years related building experience including five years’ supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the skills and ability to perform the work. Must have demonstrated knowledge of the construction industry and ICC/IBC knowledgeable and other comparable codes. Starting salary is $95,000+/- DOQ plus excellent benefits. Residency within a 10-mile radius of the Village limits is highly preferred. Bilingual skills are also preferred.
