Hey Hawks! I am the new bulletin editor for the remainder of the 2013-2014 Key Club year! If you don’t know me, my name is Gabbie and I’m a senior in in Media. Feel free to talk to me anytime or ask any questions that you may have. December was definitely a fun month full of service! We had a lot of in-club service activities this month like making mats for the homeless people here in Vegas and writing letters to Santa or Macy’s Believe Campaign! Remember, the small things definitely add up and your contribution is always going to a good cause. I hope that you have a wonderful winter break and enjoy your holiday season with friends, family, and lots of good food! See you next year! Sincerely, Gabrielle Copeland Bulletin Editor Hello Hawks! I hope you are all enjoying the holidays so far! Don't you just love the sound of Christmas music on radio in the morning? Or is that just me? The holidays is a perfect time to give back to our homes, schools, and communities and NWCTA Key Club did just that! Together our club raised $130 and 288 cans that's a total of 1,788 cans donated to the Salvation Army! We definitely were busy BEEs this November, with a total of 948 hours (that's more than last month's!) and a total of 14 service projects! This December we have gotten even busier with our Service Project of the Month: Letters to Santa for the Macy's Believe Campaign! Having a club full of members as dedicated as you guys are gives me a reason to continue to serve! I am also extremely proud to announce that our club has not experienced "Fall Rall Dropout".Thank you so much NWCTA Key Clubbers, for continually coming back every week more enthusiastic than ever to serve your homes, schools, and communities. You make me so proud to be your president!

Also, don't forget! District Convention (DCON) is just around the corner! Start saving up for the funnest, most exciting weekend full of exhilarating activities, leadership workshops, and gathering events that allow attendees to meet people from across our phenomenal district. This year it will be in Sacramento, California where Key Club was founded in 1925! Hope to see you there! Have a safe and wonderful holiday. Stay GOLDEN! Happy Holidays, Paula Castro President

MAKING MATS FOR THE HOMELESS 12/16/2013—GIVING BACK DIRECTLY TO THE COMMUNITY

During our fourteenth general meeting, members cut and tied strips of plastic shopping bags together that would be later used to create mats for homeless people in the Las Vegas valley.

The Macy’s Believe Campaign works with the Make a Wish foundation, where every letter written becomes one dollar donated to the charity! Our club goal is to write 1,000 letters in order to donate $1,000 to help make a child’s wish come true.

Q: WHAT DOES KEY CLUB MEAN TO YOU? I am a part of something bigger than myself. Doing community service and touching these countless lives always give me that good feeling inside because I know that just by joining a cause such as this and doing these fun yet meaningful events means that I am making somebody's life, somewhere a lot better. My parents told me," Leave something better than what you found it." And I believe this is what Key Club is doing. So Key Club is not just some after school thing I go to every Monday, to me it give me the opportunity to make the world a better place, one step at a time. ~ Faith Thomas, Grade 9

Q: DID YOU ENJOY YOUR FIRST BANQUET? Yes, I did enjoy my first banquet. I admired all of the officers while they gave their speeches, and I aspire to have a position in which I will be able to do the same in the future. Everyone that attended seemed to be having fun, including myself! My favorite part was when we all played the variation of “Musical Chairs. I was also part of the Banquet Committee, there I learned decorating techniques and I made new friends. My first Key Club banquet will certainly be remembered.

Student vs Teacher DodgeBall Game December 12, 2013—THANKS FOR COMING!

Our school has been trying to get a dodgeball tournament approved for years. We were very excited that this year the Administration of our school not only approved it, but participated with us! We were able to make a little over $200 on ticket sales, all of which will go to the Eliminate Project. For this event, we had our volunteers set up the gym, speakers, and make signs. Many of the members also contributed by either playing, handling the money, collecting tickets, checking liability forms, and advertising at lunches. It was a fun event that I hope we can make annual. ~ Britney Trieu, Grade 12, Vice President

Thanks to Austin Madriaga, Jerome Ancheta, and James Valdez for running such a fun event!

Wings in Winter Holiday Festival December 14, 2013– Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary

Gilcrease nature sanctuary was so beautiful, and the goats, birds, and chickens were adorable . This event was a successful festival, the coordinators were really thankful and I just felt so nice and proud of my fellow key clubbers for their hard work. We had to clean and set up the place for over 200 people that went . They didn't have much, so we made ornaments personally with what they had to decorate the place and Christmas tree . We made bows out of red ribbons, taught kids and even adults how to make snowmen and snowglobes and it was an amazing experience. ~ Karen Nguyen, Grade 10, Event Chair

Candidate Training Conference DECEMBER 19, 2013–TRAINING OUR FUTURE LEADERS

Our club decided to host a CTC this year before our upcoming club elections. Here, members have the opportunity to get to know how the election process works and hopefully find a position best suited for their personal qualities. Many people signed up and stayed until the end. Each position made a PowerPoint and presented it to the potential candidates. Also, we had workshops on public speaking, leadership, and key club 101. I think this was a great way to inform the members on the duties of each position and help prepare them for elections. At the end of the event, we took their emails and answered questions about the process. ~ Britney Trieu, Grade 12, Vice President Thanks to all who attended; we can’t wait to see you on election day!
