From the Editor and the President Hey Hawks! Now that elections are over, I’m pleased to congratulate the 2014-2015 board elects! Everyone did an awesome job and I’m happy to see all of the eagerness and potential in all of the new elects. Remember, with or without a board position, you’ll always have many opportunities to lead, serve, and be an example to others, so don’t lose your drive! I don’t have much to say this time around, but as always, if you have any questions or concerns or things to submit for next month’s newsletter, don’t hesitate to contact me! Sincerely, Gabrielle Copeland Bulletin Editor

Hello Hawks! Can you believe it is February already?! It really feels like just yesterday that we had our First General Meeting! It definitely has been quite a year and I am beyond grateful to have had such wonderful people serve and lead with! That being said, I hope you continue to serve your homes, school, and community in the upcoming year. If you have not already Congratulate the new board members that were elected! They will be the leaders of your 2014-2015 Key Club Year! We have A LOT of exciting things coming up! One of them being our long awaited Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathon! This Dance Marathon has been in the works for more than a year now and I hope you are as excited as I am for this event! This event will be on March 15 @ the UNLV Student Union Ballroom. Admission fee is $20 BUT you will be given the opportunity to fundraise for it! This is a great opportunity and event as Children's Miracle Network is one of our partners! I truly hope all you BEEautiful Key Clubbers participate in this event! The school year may be coming to an end but Key Club never ends! So please do not stop coming to meetings or stop serving your home, school and community because service never stops! There are a lot of events and opportunities coming up so make sure you check the Facebook page or text your reps to make sure you are up to date with all service projects! HAVE A GOLDEN DAY! Sparkling with Service, Paula Castro President

PAGE 02 | ELECTIONS

Elections On January 27 and February 3 we successfully held our Key Club elections and voted for next year’s board members. I would like to commend everyone who ran for a position, regardless of whether or not you were elected. Elections are nervewracking and it takes a brave, dedicated member to run for office, and I was glad to see a lot of people step out of their comfort zone and run for a position! Remember, even if you weren’t elected this time around, you always have another chance and you don’t need a board position to be an exceptional member and do amazing things for our club! Anyway, congratulations again to the elects and I wish you all a successful year full of opportunities to lead and serve! ~ Gabrielle Copeland, 12, Bulletin Editor

Congratulations to the 2014-2015 board elects! President: Krysta Phoumiphat Vice Presidents: Samantha Boyer, Rex Spenner Treasurer: Grant Uba Secretary: Diarra Morgan Bulletin Editor: Jazmyn Mustafa Senior Rep: John Vo Junior Rep: Karen Nguyen Sophomore Rep: Jean Angeles Sergeant-At-Arms: Victor Delacruz, Aejae Naval, John Mendez I am very excited to be the 2014-2015 Bulletin Editor of Northwest! I can't wait to be formally trained at OTC, and learn everything I can about my position. I am counting down the days until my term starts, so I can begin serving my club. ~ Jazmyn Mustafa, Grade 9, Bulletin Editor Elect Being a new elect, I'm very excited. For the 2014-2015 school year, I really hope to make it enjoyable for my class and give them a voice in Key Club. I'm hoping to make this year as fun and best as it can be. Also, I'm hoping to make next year, one of the best key club years yet. I'm really looking forward to being on the board again! ~ Jean Angeles, Grade 9, Sophomore Rep Elect I'm really excited to have the office of Sergeant at Arms, or SAA. When my other fellow candidates and I found out who received the open positions, we were ecstatic! I was glad that I was given a position that allows me to become one step closer to Key Club and the members themselves. Some goals I have as SAA are to help the President in any way, keep the members quiet and attentive but also have a fun and enjoyable year. ~ Aejae Naval, Grade 9, Sergeant-At-Arms Elect I feel great that I now have the opportunity to become more involved with Keyclub and take part in being a leader and benefiting our club in the best way possible. My goals for being junior rep is to help members feel included, appreciated, and support them to rise to their fullest potential. ~ Karen Nguyen, Grade 10, Junior Rep Elect I feel great about gaining this position. I believe this upcoming year will be livelier, because of the new board. Also, I think that our new board will be fairly cohesive, and we’ll be able to perform much more efficiently. And in the next year, I hope to see a bigger club and more hours produced. ~ Victor Delacruz, Grade 9, Sergeant-At-Arms Elect Being elected into office was such a great thing for me, all I want is to help my club grow no matter what position I acquired. I love this club and I am so excited to serve! I FEEL GOOD. OH I FEEL SO GOOD. ~ Grant Uba, Grade 11, Treasurer Elect I’m excited to be Key Club’s new secretary. During telections I thought I was going to lose but it turns out that I didn’t and I’m very happy about that. I feel my upcoming term will be long and strenuous but I’m read to tackle it and make it a good year. ~ Diarra Morgan, Grade 10, Secretary Elect

I really enjoy making people smile. Children in hospitals should have the opportunity to smile at any given moment, and I thought the pediatric trauma dolls service project would be a great way to help children smile. This is the primary reason why I wanted to get involved with this service project. I hope the dolls reach the children soon, so all the children at the hospital have a friend to accompany them. ~ Jazmyn Mustafa, 9, Event Chair
