Your President

Julie Malonzo (Bulletin Editor) and Sam Boyer (President)

Much love,

This month has been the best key club month of the year so far. We've made so many changes and improved every aspect of key club our only hope is to build our membership again! Last month NWCTA was d28w's club of the month and at the last DCM of the term, we won "Most Improved Club". I'm so honored to lead such an amazing and determined club. I know that next year will the by far the best key club year yet.

The beginning My name is Julie Malonzo (grade 10) for those that do not know me. I am thrilled to be represented as your new bulletin editor! I must start out by saying thank you SO MUCH to Rea Sayas for mentoring me through this whole experience, for I have learned a lot. She has done an amazing job with the previous newsletters and I will try my best to do the same. Although I was nominated for this position, I am very excited to be able to express my creativity through these newsletters and be able to capture all our events and memories through the 2015-2016 year in Key Club.

5

This is my first year in Key Club. therefore, it is an honor to be on board. I hope you will enjoy looking through these newsletters and will take the time to do it monthly. If you ever have an suggestions, don’t hesitate to let me know! Also, please send in articles and pictures when/if you go to an event or if it relates to Key Club in general. Thank you for your time and here’s to the beginning of a new term!

Ice Skating pain, haha! I was reminded that socials are one of the most important events to attend because it brings us closer, and let’s us get to know the people that we volunteer with. Plus, it’s just an easy way to relieve stress and let loose a little! Therefore, I’m very glad and excited that we have incorporated monthly socials into our schedule, that will The social did exactly what it was supposed to do. I feel like it really brought us together, and that the threads hopefully be even bigger and even betof our close knit family were made even tighter (if that makes any sense). Honestly, I had tons of fun. It didn’t mat- ter! I am definitely ter if you were a 5 year pro, or a first timer on the ice. What looking forward to our next socials, and matters was that quality time was spent and it was spent hope to see more of well. Even though all that skating gave us blisters, and you attending! made our feet weak, it was the “it was worth it” kind of 6 Jean Angeles

Our ice skating social was exhilarating. The cool air hitting my face, completely brightening my mood. During this social, I got to know more about the members and meet new people. I raced my friends, did a couple tricks, helped out the members new to ice skating, and unfortunately, fell on my butt every now and then. The event was so memorable, I couldn't stop talking about what had happened even after it ended. I hope to go ice skating again soon with my fellow key clubbers! - Aejae Naval

Helping Hands!

Jean Angeles gets her hands messy to support the CMN Dance Marathon event. During a Key Club meeting, we work together to create posters for the Children’s Miracle Network, Dance Marathon event. Putting our handprints shows that we support the kids who are sick. We wrote “we love you” in white paint and put them up at the event. This was a fun bonding moment because it is not everyday when you get to get your hands messy! Showing our support means so much to them and I’m glad we made a difference. - Julie Malonzo (Bullletin Editor) 8

Getting Ready for

A Night in Paris All the planning, decorating, setting up, and preparing for our 2015 Key Club Induction Banquet was something new for me. I cannot thank the banquet committee enough, for all their hard work. They really put in the effort and worked hard to do the tasked assigned. Great job team! I’m excited to see what this “Night in Paris” will look like! - Your Banquet Chair, Julie Malonzo

2nd Annual CMN Dance Marathon Ever since Dance Marathon first started last year, I've been so excited to attend again this year and it was bigger and better. Dance Marathon is the best because so many people donate and dance for people who can't. And they do it for such a long time and that shows how committed Key Clubbers are to helping to change the world to make it a better place. I'm so glad to be a part of that movement because helping all these wonderful individuals from CMN hospitals is by far the most rewarding thing anyone can do. I hope that for the years to come, many new generations of Key Clubbers and other people outside of KC can participate in this cool event and that they enjoy helping the cause as much as I did. - Melanie Garcia (Treasurer)

CMN Dance marathon

This is my second year going to Dance Marathon and it keeps getting better! I got to reunite with old friends and made new friends. We also got to listen to the speakers who shared with us their stories about the illnesses they go through. It was nice to listen to what they had to say and standing as do dancing for 8 hours is not as bad as being unable to stand at all. The best part of about this event was at the last hour when they turned off the lights and everyone danced wearing raves! I encourage all our members to join this event next year! 13

The Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon was definitely an enigmatic - yet, at times, tiring event! While standing for hours became exhausting, I still enjoyed every minute of the event. Everyone I met was very excited and proud to be a part of such an experience, and I can definitely say the same about myself. The speakers at the event were extremely heartfelt and made it all the more worthwhile. My favorite part of the CMN Dance Marathon was being able to take pictures in the photo booth with all my friends. I made memories and met people that I will never forget, and I’ll always remember to work hard just like all the volunteers and patients at Children’s Miracle Network. 16

The NWCTA Hawks who attended Dance Marathon

“On March 7, 2015, the 2nd annual Children's Miracle Network took place, and it was yet another unforgettable experience! I was there from 8 AM to 8 PM helping set up the whole entire event. Standing for 12 hours has my legs in pain, but it's nothing compared to the conditions some of the CMN patients go through - "We stand for the patients who can't." Along with having an incredible amount of fun in the photo booth, gaming area, ping pong table, and dancing, I was able to contribute to such an amazing cause. I'm so amazed of how much this event grew. Last year, only D28W took part, and now all D28 and other schools are joining! I give props to Jason and the rest of the YMC for planning this event after months, and in honesty, dance marathon is one of the best events of the year. From being the first club to host a dance marathon, and seeing it where this event stands now is astounding. I cannot wait for next year 18 since I'll be part of the planning process!! - Rea Sayas

Park Social The sports social at Centennial Hills Park was very nice. A beautiful day accompanied by my fellow key clubbers really leads to an enjoyable experience. We ate food that was cooked by Devin and did some racing in the sand. Jett came through with the oranges too! I hope that there are more socials before I graduate where our entire club can come and enjoy each others company. - John Vo
