From the Editor and the President Happy New Year, Hawks! Unfortunately, this month we didn’t have as many service events ready for you as usual, but don’t forget that it’s important for you to find your own individual service events as well. Also, you can always submit your own ideas and chair events that you find as well. Take initiative, it not only helps out you but all of us as well! Anyhow, I bet you’re all relieved that midterms are over, right? I know I am. Let’s all strive for an awesome second semester! Seniors, can you believe that graduation is already less than five months away? Time flies quickly, so make sure to have fun, performs lots of service, and keep your grades up so you can finish senior year with a bang! Thanks to everyone for continuously coming to the meetings and participating in the service projects we have after. I’m looking forward to an awesome rest of the school year! ☺ Sincerely, Gabrielle Copeland Bulletin Editor

Hello Hawks!

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays! Can you believe it is 2014 already?! For the senior Key Clubbers, this means 5 more months until graduation! I know senioritis has probably already kicked in but don't give up just yet! Make sure you finish off high school with a bang! For those of you wanting a Key Club cord for graduation make sure you are meeting all the requirements necessary! January has been a bit of a slow month for us with Exam Week and holiday breaks in between, but do not let this stop you from doing what you all love to do most as Key Clubbers, SERVE! Make sure to turn in your individual service hours to your reps! Elections are nearing and though it saddens me that my term is coming to an end, I am excited for the new board! Make sure you attend elections to vote for the future leaders of this club! Also, this month we will be having our first ever Scavenger Hunt Social at the Fashion Mall on Saturday, January 25. Make you sign up! This is a great way to bond with your fellow Key Clubbers and create long lasting friendships! Last but most certainly not the least, don't forget District Convention (DCON) is just around the corner! Start saving up for the funnest, most exciting weekend full of exhilarating activities, leadership workshops, and gathering events that allow attendees to meet people from across our phenomenal district. This year it will be in Sacramento, California where Key Club was founded in 1925! Hope to see you there! Have a safe and wonderful holiday. Stay GOLDEN!

Sparkling with Service, Paula Castro President

1.17.2014—PREPARING A MEAL AS A GROUP WITH LOVE

Making dinner for the families living at the Ronald McDonald house was truly an amazing experience. Not only did we get to help out these people and interact with them directly, we all became closer as a group. This project truly felt like everything a service event should embody, and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to participate in this event with the awesome people that went too. We made hamburgers, brownies, and cookies to serve to the families that live there and we had a lot of fun doing it together, too. This was truly an experience that none of us will forget! ~ Gabrielle Copeland, Grade 12, Bulletin Editor

Working at the Ronald McDonald House was probably one o the most genuine and fun experiences I’ve had. Working together in the kitchen with everyone who came was great and actually getting to see these people sit down and laugh over the food we made, made me really glad I went. ~ Ethan Haines, Grade 12, Vice President Being offered this incredible opportunity to serve the Ronal McDonald House Charity was very much pleasing and not to mention satisfying. Seeing the gratified expressions of the individuals we served filled me with bliss. ~ Grant Uba, Grade 11, Junior Representative

Chairing this event for our key club was such an amazing experience. It was a nice change from our usual service events, and I felt as if the members who participated really got a chance to bond together. Cooking for those less fortunate really brought a smile to my face. Everyone contributed a few dollars, yet we were able to come together and make a fabulous meal. I am so glad that everyone who came was responsible, helpful, and positive throughout the night. This is certainly something I would look forward to doing again! ~ Britney Trieu, Grade 12, Vice President

The Ronald McDonald House is a very welcoming environment. By having the chance to volunteer with my peers at this location, I was able to share a bonding experience through making dinner for the families currently staying at this house. ~ James Valdez, Grade 12, Sergeant-At-Arms The Ronald McDonald House charity event was extremely fulfilling. It was an incredible bonding experience that I cannot wait to recreate. Our hamburgers, brownies, and memories were great! ~ Elaina Mayoyo, Grade 12, Treasurer
