From the President Hello Key Clubbers! Hopefully you are all having a restful summer but don’t forget about the community service. There are still plenty opportunities out there. Service doesn’t stop for anyone. So far, this summer the board that serves you has already created a fundraising plan for the ENTIRE 2017-2018 term! It’s very exciting stuff that I can’t wait for you guys to see and experience. In the upcoming months, the board will also be working on some other great events to have for you all. Let’s make this term the best one yet! Love, Madam President Kayla DeSoto

From the editor Hey Northwest! I hope you all have had a great summer so far, filled with fun, and with service! I can’t wait for the start of the year, as we can be ready to experience the new year together! This summer has been great, being able to serve the community out of school and being able to look forward to events to come. I look forward to upcoming events for you all, and to be able to document everyone’s experience within photos and articles by you all. I’m also overjoyed for meeting new Key Clubbers and seeing recurring members. From, Vincent Fresco

đ&#x;Ž“ Kait Castillo | Class of 2017 Graduate All I can say is: Key Club was key to my high school career. Okay, bad jokes and puns aside, Key Club had such a large impact during these 4 years of my life. When I first came to NWCTA, my freshman year was introverted and closed off. I was shy and didn’t want to reach outside my comfort zone. I remember stepping into the first KC meeting and was taken back by the hospitality and outgoing demeanors of the members around me. This was only the beginning. The Club had helped shape me into a more open person, willing to help others around me and volunteer for others in need. I could branch out and make friendships that are still very dear to me to this day. It had opened so many opportunities and I was able to be more comfortable with myself and my peers around me. As for the community service aspect, Key Club allowed me to see how much one small action could do. A small cheer or a simple, kind gesture can do so much more than one thinks. Just one kind deed can make someone’s day and possibly help someone in need. Key Club is so much more than the socializing; Key Club is about cohesion, togetherness, and helping the community in need. I could realize this and I don’t know what I would do without this 4-year experience. KC has been a big part of my high school career. I’m so glad I could partake in community service alongside my friends. I’m so sure that when my old high school friends ask me “how do you feel?â€? during college, I know I’ll be feeling good because of the impact KC had left me in the long run. Thank you for everything NWCTA Key Club. I’ll miss you guys!

Jeramie Ayala | Class of 2017 Graduate Key Club is an amazing club to join when wanting to meet new people and help with the community at the same time. Many people assume that this club makes keys, which I thought in the beginning, but it’s more than that. This club had a huge impact throughout my high school career. During my freshman year, I was always excited to go to meetings because of what events we were about to be associated with. All the events were always fun to participate in such as walks, charities, drives, and other community services we can get our hands on the best part about it was doing it with you friends and making new friends from a variety of schools throughout Las Vegas. The one event however, that everyone always looked forward to being was RTC! Regional Training Conference was an all-day event where students learn about different workshops and services for the community, but what really made this fun was every Key Club’s spirit. All Key Clubbers dressed in tutu’s, colored hair, decorations, on their bodies, and holding their gear to represent their school and region. All schools would compete against each other in spirit chants determined by spirit, loudness, and creativity! It’s an event that’s memorable and a Key Clubber should always go to. Key Club really made my high school experience an unforgettable and exciting one. From Freshman to Senior Year, Key Club was a huge part of my heart. GO KC!

Kayla Desoto | President Even though the heat in Vegas is sometimes unbearable, volunteering counteracts the heat! At the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth, it was great to be able to spend time with the club's sponsoring Kiwanis Club. Jokes are shared and I met some great Kiwanis people. I spun around a sign to get drivers to buy our fireworks and for the two hours I was there I got 30 cars to go in. From those I'm not sure if any bought fireworks... but it was still exciting to have them go in and smile at me as I waved the sign.

Adrian Sayas | General Member The fireworks booth is a fundraiser/service event that is held by Kiwanis in which volunteers such as myself were there to help setup, promote, sell, and pack up the fireworks. The fireworks booth is also one of the largest fundraiser that Kiwanis does for itself. As for the overall experience while volunteering, I must say it was a lot more fun that I had expected. There was the service part when we were doing sign flipping or setting up, but I found that a lot of the time was spent socializing with the advisers and volunteers. Again, an overall enjoyable experience.
