Hi Hawks! This month is going to be full of amazing things! As we wrap up the fireworks booth with our sponsoring Kiwanians, we aim for intensive preparation for the upcoming school year. Not only that, but currently I am on a plane to Atlanta, Georgia! This first week of July will be spent touring this peachy state with our beloved CaliNevHa District as well as voting for the 2016-2017 International Board at International Convention. I am looking forward to visiting the Key Club store and meeting lots of people! BEE prepared to see lots of pictures because I am so excited to bring this experience back home. Thank you so much for tuning in -- I wish us all an awesome remainder of the summer!

With the lack of service events available for our club to attend, this newsletter was very difficult to put together. However, you guys were amazing when it came to sending in your articles/visuals (like always) to me on time! Look forward to information in regards to an RTC Prep Social being planned for later this month or sometime in August. Other information on events in August, such as the Kiwanis DCON and NWCTA Freshman Orientation, will be released as they come closer. I hope you are all enjoying your summer (I know I am!) and continue serving our community!

DCM

DIVISION 28 NORTH DIVISION 28 WEST DIVISION 28 SOUTH

Andrea Alcala | Junior Member My first DCM was such a wonderful experience! I remember driving toward the park expecting a great time and that's exactly what I got throughout. It was so fun meeting people from different schools and divisions and hearing what their club has been up to in the last month. This really gave me inspiration for new service events that we can hold in upcoming months. My favorite part of the DCM has got to be the Olympics. It was a chance for me to break out of my shell and make new friends. From playing "poncho" to the water balloon toss, I created a memorable bond with my team. Overall my first DCM was a success and I look forward to attending many more in the future.

Her first DCM!

with our sponsoring Kiwanis Evelyn Salas | Junior Member Assisting at the fireworks booth was intimidating at first. Upon arrival, I was greeted by two women who made the experience not so bad. We were put to work by holding and flipping a sign to promote the firework sale. Volunteering with my friend Frida made it fun. We were given a break every once in a while to drink water and talk with the Kiwanis members there. The two hours of helping went by quick. Overall it was fun and a good experience!

Summer Travels

Los Angeles

Kayla DeSoto | Secretary

On June 21st, I was lucky enough to go to Los Angeles to see two of my favorite bands perform: Portugal and The Man, and Cage the Elephant. I first purchased the Los Angeles tickets because there wasn't a Las Vegas show, but a week after, a show in Las Vegas was announced. I was a bit annoyed, yet extremely ecstatic at the same time because I would see two of my favorite bands perform twice in one week! Not many people can say that, but I can. The day after the Los Angeles concert I convinced my family to go to Six Flags and had a blast even though it was extremely hot! Three days later, I took my friend Rachael, which is a fellow key clubber that goes to Centennial High School, to the concert with me. Before the concert started we were blessed enough to meet the lead singer, Matt Shultz, and lead guitarist, Brandon Shultz! They both surfed the crowd and Brandon surfed on top of me. I was quick enough to land a kiss. Rachael and I had a blast together in the pit. I love the bands and my friend. #crazysummernights

Panama & Costa Rica Dylan Pham | Junior Member

When you think of Panama, you would think of the Panama Canal, but there’s other beautiful things in Panama than just that. There was this island called San Blas that consisted of 300 islands (which felt like paradise) and it was pretty lax. Also, there is an old town which looked just like New Orleans. The tacos there are bomb (unlike the Taco Bell here in Vegas) but overall the food was great. I also went to Costa Rica which was amazing because it has many trees and animals. We had a great time in the forest with the monkeys, frogs, sloths, mosquitos, and bed bugs. On our last day, we chilled at the beach where the movie "Robison Crusoe" was shot. There were many hermit crabs that you had to watch where you sat because one hermit crab went into my pants when I was taking a nap. Altogether, it was probably one of the best trips I've ever had!

Washington, D.C.

Leah Mazzola | Sophomore Representative

I'm currently in LOVE with DC! The whole city is so beautiful and the weather is amazing. I've been going to so many museums and monuments, I don't want this trip to end! Everywhere you turn there's something new to do, hopefully there are even more adventures to come.

Sequoia National Park Joshua Guloy | SAA

Sequoia National Park is probably one of my favorite national parks of all time. While the area surrounding it for at least 100 miles in each direction is hot and filled with mosquitoes, this national park is almost the exact opposite. The weather there was perfect and there were plenty of waterfalls and cool little hiking trails that made this an amazing park experience. I took a lot of aesthetic pictures, hiked and spent a lot of time with my family.

San Diego Jayden Curameng | Bulletin Editor

With my junior year coming up in full speed ahead, it's time to start thinking about what most people have a fear of -- the future. On my recent trip to San Diego, I began my search for a college to attend! I visited San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. These two colleges have truly beautiful campuses, and there's a possible chance one of them could become my home in the future!

New York & Virginia

Malachi White | Sophomore Member

During the summer, I traveled to New York, NY and Virginia Beach, VA. Overall I spent twelve days sightseeing and enjoying the view in both cities. While in New York I was able to meet new family members and visit old ones. During the the trip, I was able to travel on the subway to Times Square to go site seeing. We saw the World Trade Center Memorial and enjoyed the festivities NY had to offer. I was able to get on an elevated that took me to an Observatory to look out upon NY from a bird’s eye view. We were inside of a 360-degree fish looking out upon the beauty and nature of the New York Metropolitan Area. Our plans in New York were cast but we knew we had to travel and see my father's best friend retire from the Air Force. I knew it would be an all day trip and packed my bag ready to go. We arrived in Virginia and went sightseeing, went on a Naval Base, and walked the beach at night. Overall my vacation was jammed pack full of fun and excitement. I cannot wait to go back to Virginia for a week or two. A great experience for my amazing family and I.

Where did you go

San Francisco

Kyle Monato | Junior Member

On June 3rd, I began my family adventure in a van filled with luggage, snoring children, and a heart full of curiosity (mine of course) to a place full of mystique, glory, and street food; a place known as San Francisco. When I got there, we passed by elegant homes that sparked my inner memory of "The Princess Diaries", and I could've sworn I went down the exact street Mia lived on, but who knows; San Francisco is a small place. The streets of San Francisco were like a roller coaster ride, and going downhill was a load of fun, unless of course you were my grandparents. The small city was filled fog that would come and go, so in order for me to get a phenomenal shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, time was of the essence. Luckily, I snagged my picture perfect shot before low-lying clouds completely devoured it. My escapade in San Francisco was exquisite and I can't wait to come back with mis amigos!

San Diego Gianna Coloma | Junior Representative

For my summer trip I went to the wonderful city of San Diego with my whole family. San Diego is such a beautiful city, everywhere you look there's a great picture opportunity. We did all the touristy things that you can think of; like going to the beach, going on a boat tour, fishing, etc. We also went to the navy base. San Diego also has amazing food, I lost track on how many times we ate! Our next stops are Los Angeles and Napa Valley to visit family.

this summer?
