Hey Hawks! After many months of preparation and planning on behalf of Paula, Britney, and CMN, we finally had our Dance Marathon! The event was a success and if you didn't attend this year then you really missed out, but never fear, the event will be happening again next year and it will be bigger and better. I'm so glad I got to experience it, and I hope that the pictures I put into this month's newsletter really embody the vibe of the event. Thanks you to everyone who submitted articles! This is my last newsletter, and it has been fun, but I can’t wait to see what Jazmyn and the rest of the new board have in store for next year! ☺♥ ~ Gabrielle Copeland, Bulletin Editor Hello Hawks! I can't believe it's March and my last month as your President already! It really feels like just yesterday that I was installed at our End of the Year Banquet! It has been a very successful year and I could not be any happier to serve you all! This has been quite an eventful month for us! We hosted the First Annual CMN Dance Marathon at UNLV and that was a huge success! The turn out was so great that we are having it again next year and for the many future years to come. So thank you for making it a huge success! We have gone down in Dance Marathon history for being the first high school to in our region to host one! We have A LOT of exciting things coming up! DCON is just around the corner and for those not attending we have many other events coming up as well such as Relay, Talent Show, a bunch of socials and of course our End of the Year Banquet! Don't forget to keep up with your service hours as well! You have all done such a wonderful job with serving your homes, school and community this year! This year has gone by so fast and I cannot believe that this will be my last President's message. Before I retire, I would like you all to know that it has been an honor to serve as your 2013-2014 NWCTA Key Club President and I cannot express enough how proud I am to have served my home, school, and community with such a GOLDEN group of individuals. I hope I have inspired you to make a difference each and every day no matter how big or small of an impact is made. I truly hope that this year you have discovered the same way I did that Caring is not just a word, but a way of life. STAY GOLDEN and Remember: You are BEEautiful For the last time--Sparkling with Service, Paula Castro 2013-2014 Key Club President

March 15, 2014—Thanks for joining us at UNLV and dancing FOR THE KIDS!

NWCTA Key Club hosted the first ever Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon on the west coast, and NWCTA was the first high school to ever host a Dance Marathon, too! For six hours, a crowd of over 100 people bonded, danced, and had a lot of fun all for the sake of the children we’ve been raising money for. We had fun For The Kids and we stood for those who can’t. We have bigger and better plans for next year, so we hope to see you all there! Thank you for participating, Hawks. PAGE 02 | CMN DANCE MARATHON

"Last Saturday, I attended the CMN Dance Marathon. The marathon was not what I was expected - it was way better. Video games, food, dancing, socializing; how great is that? I even made new friends through this event! In the periods of time I wasn't socializing or dancing, I took the time to listen to some of the speakers. If they did not share their story, I would've thought they were normal, and I did think they were normal. So I thought, "Children's Miracle Network really makes miracles come true." The stories touched my heart, and it motivated me to fundraise more for CMN! I can not exaggerate how fun this event was. I definitely can't wait until next year." ~ Rea Sayas, Grade 10, CMN Fundraising Committee Chair

I'm proud to say that we were the first club to host Dance Marathon in Las Vegas, and that is a big accomplishment as a club. Dance Marathon was a success! Not only was it super fun it was for a great cause, "We stand for the children who can’t." To put it simply, this event was amazing. We had to stand the whole time and dance or take pictures, eat, play games, etc. We heard stories from the Miracle Kids, which touched all our hearts. These teens, our age, are so strong and positive, I couldn’t even imagine going through half of what they go through. I feel like this event was a really big hit. From Polynesian Club performing to the play by Centennial Theatre. The overall event just made you happy and the atmosphere made you not want it to ever end. I feel at this event in particular our Key Club has bonded more than we ever have and our Key Clubbers were able to meet more key clubbers within D28W on a more personal level. I for sure am looking forward to the next DM and believe me, you don't want to miss out! ~ Krysta Phoumiphat, Grade 11, Vice President PAGE 05 | CMN DANCE MARATHON

The Dance Marathon was such a fun event! We danced for six hours because it represents that we stand or those who cannot at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Also, the hosts shared their experiences and what they have to go through in order to show what we as healthy people take for granted. Overall, it was a fun event. I also made new friends from different schools. Hopefully there will be another Dance Marathon next year! ~ Antoinette Bantug, Grade 10, Member

After months and months of planning it was so rewarding to finally have the Dance Marathon. I was there since 8 am with a few others preparing for the event. I first started planning this event with Jason 2 years ago but unfortunately it did not pull through. This year it finally happened and I could not be any happier with the outcome! There was a little of everything for everyone to enjoy. A photobooth, gaming, arts and crafts, dancing and entertainment. A lot of members even compared it to RTC! The actual event was so much fun! It was almost like a big social for D28 West but all the funds were going to a great cause and we were ale to hear stories from the Miracle Children. Definitely one of the best events of the year! ~ Paula Castro, Grade 12, President

This year I had the opportunity to participate in the first Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon in Las Vegas. The purpose of the event was to raise money for the CMN Hospitals in the city. When I arrived I noticed there were people from other schools there, which meant that it was a chance to meet new people. To start off the event all of the participants pledged to remain standing through the entire 6 hour duration of the event. They later explained that there were children in hospitals who were not able to stand and live a healthy life; we were representing those children and standing for them. After the introduction we had a chance to have fun with the entertainment the event had organized, there were video games set up, as well as a photo booth with fun props, and of course dancing. There were a lot of people running around and taking selfies with others and enjoying the event. One of the things I liked and remember the most is the presentation made by a group of guys who had coordinated a dance to a song along with words written on them, I thought it was cool to see the stunts they had performed. That was not the only performance that took place during the event; including Northwest CTA’s hip-hop club and Polynesian dancers, and theater skits. Another moment which stood out to was when patients from CMN Hospitals shared their own experiences. Through their stories, I as well as others present, were able to see that there are many things in life that we take for granted. It can be little things such as breathing, walking, or even being able to hold a microphone and actually feel it. Although they were all going through difficult situations in their lives they looked at things positively, I admire that. The DJ at the event was pretty good; all the music that was played was well accepted by everyone. I had fun hanging out with my fellow club members and other school’s members and all for a good cause. Overall I truly did enjoy my time at the Dance Marathon, if I had the chance to attend another Dance Marathon I would because I know every year it will be better and better integrating more people to join the good cause, because after all everything is done For The Kids. ~ Karina Salas-Duran, Grade 12
