From your

president

Now that OTC is over, we realize we have a big year ahead of us! Our board is excited and ready to take these new opportunities to BEE the greatest club we can be. We will be aiming for more active service over the summer; having interclub adventures; and we hope to grow our club not in numbers but in bonds! I hope many of readers like you will stick around and join us as we blossom into the beautiful I know we're meant to be.

From your

Victor

editor

This month has been full of events, and I'm glad to see most of our members participating in them! I want everyone to know just because it's going to be summer, doesn't mean you can't do service and work on your hours. I hope you all enjoy what I've put together this month, and have a great summer!

Brianna Abagat Sophomore Member I had a great time volunteering at the Great Strides Walk. We were assigned to help the Kid’s Corner, but as we waited at the booth, no kids arrived. We realized that no kids were going to show up, so we decided to cheer on the walkers. It was nice seeing the walkers smiling. Despite the wind and cold temperatures, all the participants had a great time. What surprised me the most was that there were a lot of college students volunteering. It was nice seeing that even if they were in college, they found the time to come out and help.

Kayla DeSoto Secretary/Event Chair The Cystic Fibrosis Walk was a 5K that was on the UNLV Track. The volunteers that came were stationed in the Kid’s Korner. The wind made the day difficult and many kids didn’t notice that we were a craft station, but nonetheless we helped out our community.

Teacher Appreciation Week In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Northwest CTA Key Club gave teachers hand sanitizers and attached a note saying, “Thanks for lending a hand!” to thank teachers for all they’ve done for us.

Angela Marroquin | Freshman Member Relay for Life was a whole new experience for me. It's inspiring to see everyone gathered to support to those who have lost an important one to cancer, people with cancer, and cancer survivors. These survivors shared their stories of their battle with cancer and we carried on the tradition of walking around the track. I enjoyed myself at Relay by eating lots of food, dancing, and spending time with new and old friends. Though it rained, I had a lot of fun and made the most out of the night. I can't wait for Relay for Life next year!

Sheila Bibera | Vice President This was my second year going to Relay for Life. This year was another memorable one for me. I learned why I Relay, especially this year because of a very close family friend. But Relay for Life also helped the ones who are going through cancer. It was another great experience for me to go because not only did I get to meet new people, hang out with peers, but I also got the chance to help some of the people who are fighting through cancer. It truly does mean a lot. Hearing people's stories makes me think, "This is why I do this, I have a certain reason to." Overall, this year was a great experience because I did get to hang out with some new and old friends and just go around talking to other clubs as well. It may have rained really late but that didn't stop anything. It was amazing and I'm excited for the couple year I still have to experience Relay.

Relay for

Rea Sayas | Senior Member/Event Chair As captain this year, I couldn't be more thankful for such a wonderful team. With just registration fees before the event, we raised $1,571! I can't wait to know the final amount raised. As a team, we've achieved so much more than previous years: we made 2nd place in the Miss Relay Pageant raising $98, we made over $70 in food sales, and everyone bonded together. It makes me ecstatic to see the team had a great time even with the rain. The whole team made an effort to help out and I'm so thankful for you all! Because I was also part of the committee that organized the event, I didn't have time to hang out with everyone, but I was more than willing to sacrifice my time to ensure a great night for everyone -- even though people still complained about it. I know my efforts and my team knows my efforts, and I think that's all I can wish for. I hope everyone keeps in mind that there's a right reason to relay and a wrong reason to relay. Choose and remember the right one. After experiencing relay every year, I can't believe it's my last one as a senior, but I couldn't have asked for a better one. Hawks, make me proud next year!

Officer Training Conference Sheila Bibera | Vice President At Officer Training Conference, I learned a lot about being Vice President. Being Vice President, I can help with board members, the club, and members the whole time with anything in general. I'm very happy I was led into this position because this position can also help me sort ideas for new service events and fundraisers we can do, which I learned a lot more about! Getting to know the ideas from other boards of Las Vegas Key Clubs also expands the ideas of the different things we can do. I am here to serve my fellow members for the 2016-2017 term.
