S OARING H AWKS November 2015 Letter from the President/Editor Haunted Harvest Walk to End Alzheimer’s Strides Against Breast Cancer Lung Force Walk Inquiry Convoy of Hope Info Calendar

From the President Fall Rally South was AMAZING. Last year we had TWO members go this year we had TWENTY FOUR! We did great and had a ton of fun. I'm so proud. We have lots of winter events to look forward to and I'm so pumped to have a fun holiday season with my club!

From the Editor As the colder weather rolls in, we would think we would go hibernate, but we thought wrong! Numerous events are coming up, and the weather won’t stop us from serving. Anyway, I hope everyone likes this little change of formatting—I wanted to try new things to enhance my skills, and I thought the format I had previously was getting boring. Per usual, I would like to thank everyone who sent in articles and visuals since I definitely received an increase. Please keep them coming! Have a wonderful month hawks! B

Hear from some of the Board! October was a very memorable month in Key Club career! I was able to volunteer at my greatest and final Haunted Harvest at the Spring's Preserve, an event that I've been going to for four years. This year I had the pleasure of giving the children who had played enough games their choice prize of candy, toys, and other goodies. The smile on their faces really sealed the deal for being a good night. I did this alongside close friends and that really put the cherry on top of a 10/10 night of service. I also went to Alzheimer's Walk which was at Town Square this year. It was really sensational, being able to cheer on those brave fighters of the disease and all those who supported them or knew someone with the condition. This year, we also got to walk the track ourselves as a club once all the walkers passed and that really gave me a sense of truly helping the cause. October was a great start to my final year in Key Club! SAA

October was an extremely productive month for our club and I'm very proud of our progress! Throughout this whole month, we've been busy with volunteer events and planning for events such as DCON and fortunately, we're off to a great start! Our members have also frequently volunteered to chair for events, such as the Alzheimer's Walk and the Breast Cancer Walk, and have shown constant enthusiasm in helping people. They've never stopped looking for ways to help others. I strongly believe our club has become a stronger ohana because of members' and board's willingness to include everyone. I love my fellow key clubbers and I look forward to the following months and what new experiences they will bring us. TREASURER

Haunted Harvest Kelly Umana | Sophomore Member "Springs preserve was such a fun experience because I got to know better some of the other members and create a closer bond with some of them. It was so much fun getting to see all the little kids in their costumes, they were so adorable and I loved to see how they love being rewarded. We gave them prizes, and many of the kids were happy for the littlest of things." Anton Manada | Sophomore Member “Haunted Harvest 2015 turned out to be a much more enjoyable event than I expected. Given it was my first time volunteering at Haunted Harvest, I was eager to start. Our Key Club was given the prize area stationed at the end of the carnival to maintain. It truly was a fun experience as more grinning children came to retrieve their prizes. I'm excited to come back next year to volunteer for other roles in Haunted Harvest and I recommend new volunteers to try this event!

Jayden Curameng | Sophomore Member “The Walk to End Alzheimer's was a truly amazing event. It was my first

year going, and I enjoyed every second of it. I had a lot of fun cheering on the walkers, especially those who struggle with the Alzheimer's disease. It was very heartwarming to see that many people come out to walk and support the cause. It really surprised me when some of them came up to our club and told us stuff like "Thank you for being

here" or "Thank you for supporting us." Something about them saying that made me feel proud to be a volunteer. Overall, this event was a HUGE success and I definitely plan on coming back again next year. Also, another big thanks to Shaila for chairing the event, we couldn't have done it without you!

Sheila Bibera | Sophomore Member “Having a service event such as Alzheimer's Walk was amazing!

This was my first time going, and I'd love to go again! In addition to that, there were amounts of people who would come up to us and give us high fives and had a smile on their faces. Cheering

them on was a great thing too because you would also see some of the people in the crowd do it with you!”

Brianna Abagat | Sophomore Member “Walk to End Alzheimer's was an unforgettable experience for

me. I was touched by all the people there and seeing them take

time out of their own day, and walk to find help find a cure for Alzheimer's. It was an event that was worth signing up for, and I am glad that I did. It changed how I saw the world and others. You may not know what is going on in their lives, but seeing people smile because we supported them made me very happy to be there. It was definitely one of my favorite service events.”
