FROM THE

President

So I know October is a crazy month, but

we made it! RTC preps went so smoothly for

how we started, and Regional Training Conference itself was absolutely amazing. Every NW Key Clubber should be..

EXTREMELY PROUD ...of themselves because we represented Northwest, and we truly became closer as a Key Club family. We still have important events coming up like Haunted Harvest, Alzheimer's walk, and Breast Cancer walk which are events that set up a key clubber's passion for the rest of the year. I hope all of you enjoyed this month as much as I did and are excited for the rest of this amazing year!

Love, Sam Boyer

FROM THE

Editor

Hey Hawks! Our club had a quite eventful month. RTC preps, Haunted Harvest, and RTC occupied most of the month, yet more events are to come such as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Breast Cancer Walk! The excitement is just building as we come together as an ohana to serve our community, making a difference. I just want to remind you all that the four core values are: leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. It’s not about spirit and fun; that just comes with the journey! With all the information we learned at RTC, let’s keep making the difference in our community.

Please keep sending in articles/visuals to me throughout the month! I greatly appreciate every single one who sent in items, and you can tell I received a plethora of them! I’d like to recognize Jazzy Marquez and Noelle Masangkay since the articles they sent in to me, in which I sent in to the Division 28 West Editor, Tyler Su, were featured in the most recent Seamonkey Story!! This is a great way to show what our club is all about. I love all of you, until next month hawks!

Love, Rea Sayas

Thank you,

Krysta.

Key clubbers spend time with Krysta Phoumiphat for her last meeting as President.

KYLE ALUAGUE | FRESHMAN MEMBER “I've been in key club for short time now, and let me tell you it's been phenomenal. I can't explain how hype I was at the first meeting. (Nervousness included) I was pretty thrilled. Being president sounds like a lot of work. Planning, organizing, and all sorts of other stuff too, but you made it look like no problem and fun! I give you props and respect for that. You've made stuff so fun in key club, but you've also given us tons of things to think about. Especially about volunteering. The other day when you were talking about packing cans and volunteering or donating makes a lot of difference really got me thinking. Key Club is just all fun and games, it's about improving your community around you. I know your probably thinking "Well no derr" right now but I just realized that. Krysta, I can't believe that your leaving in such a short time, but within that short time frame you've been through a lot and still pulled through for everybody.”

“Thank you for being an inspiration, role model, and great Key Club president.” TONI BATUNG | JUNIOR MEMBER “It’s sad to see our president go when the year just started. But I’ve known you for three years now, and I’ve see your dedication you have for this amazing club. Thank you so much for all you’ve done for this club from bulletin editor to presidency!”

“We’ll miss you!” JEAN ANGELES | SOPHOMORE REP “First and for most, thank you so, so, so much for making a great club. Yes, your term was only a few months, but I believe that you made our club closer as a whole and as a family and that's something that, I think, is difficult to do. I miss you already and I’m going to miss your crazy, energetic dance moves and funny remarks. You were a great president that knew how to get down, so thank god that you weren't strictly business, and you mixed business and fun. I'm also going to be SO BUMMED that you aren't here to carry out project blossom anymore, but, hopefully you'll come back from basic and visit us or I’ll beat the brains out of you. I know you'll do so well, and you're going to come back with an 8-pack and buns of steel! Overall, this is just a little thank you for making our club the best one out there!”

“You’re the best Krysta!”

Haunted Harvest JAZZY MARQUEZ | SENIOR MEMBER “This was my first time at Haunted Harvest and I really enjoyed it. It was nice seeing the kids, along with their parents, having a lot of fun. I volunteered at the carnival games in the section where they threw bean bags at cans in attempt to knock them down. When they knocked the cans down, they received a prize such as a stamp, a ring, or a bracelet. It was great seeing the bright smiles on everyone and knowing that I helped place that smile on their faces.”

NOELLE MASANGKAY | JUNIOR MEMBER “Attending Haunted Harvest made me realize how much volunteering can make an impact on people’s lives. Haunted Harvest is a family oriented event at Springs Preserve; it is very similar to a fall festival. Our school worked at the carnival games area, and we were separated into pairs or groups of three, depending on the activity. My group was assigned the Tin Can Alley game, where kids were to knock the stack of tin cans down using beanbags. Although we had to constantly reset the cans, seeing the smile on kids’ faces was worth it. My favorite part of the day was getting to interact with the kids. I would encourage kids by saying things like “Great job!” and “Wow! Nice shot!” This really seemed to brighten their days. Also, because we were supposed to hole punch people’s programs and there were three people in my group, we rotated jobs. When I took the hole puncher job, I asked kids if they believed they could knock all the cans down in one hit. Their faces would light up instantly followed by the response, “Of course I can! It’s easy.” It was the most adorable thing ever. If I ever get the chance, I would definitely do it again.”

KAREN JENSEN | JUNIOR REP “I think the best part about working at haunted harvest is seeing the kids honestly. Seeing how united their families are, how silly they can be, how appreciative they get over a sticker or a piece of candy. Then the parents, who take the time out of their day for kids. I can volunteer for eternity if there was a choice really. Haunted harvest always makes me happy because not only am I making sure families have a long lasting memory, I get to witness my key clubbers old and new experience a whole new world each time. Having the freshmen tell me all about their day at springs honestly is my cherry on top of this whole thing.

THANK YOU KAREN FOR CHAIRING THIS WONDERFUL EVENT!

SHAILA SALINAS JUNIOR

Regional Training Conference Prep Northwest worked hard to memorize and

learn new cheers for RTC which was held at Centennial High School. Numerous preps were held so us hawks could be at our peak on the big day.

Regional Training Conference 2014

Regional Training Conference 2014 TYLER SU | DIVISION 28 WEST EDITOR “RTC is one of the biggest events of the year! It's a chance for all of the clubs in Region 5 to show THEIR club spirit, learn about everything Key Club, and compete for the coveted Spirit Stick! Unfortunately this year I didn't get to cheer with our school, but it was an amazing experience to go as a part of the DLT! Although the day was cut short, there was enough spirit and Key Club love to last until next RTC. I'm so proud of our club for making it to the Top 3 for our ENTIRE division, and battling it out with some of the biggest clubs in the Region. RTC is an amazing experience and I hope everyone learned and cheered as much as I did. I'll definitely be attending next year!”

JAYDEN CURAMENG | FRESHMAN MEMBER “Attending RTC for freshman year was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t think it would be as fun, but I ended up enjoying it so much, when it was over, I didn’t want to leave. We made it to the Top 3 of our division, and I couldn’t be prouder than I am right now of NWCTA Key Club. Because I loved RTC this year I plan on going every year until I graduate. “WHO’S THE BEST? NORTHWEST!! NORTHWEST!” “

ANGIE PARAYNO | FRESHMAN MEMBER “In all honesty I did not expect Regional Training Conference to be this fun! All the adrenaline and excitement was such an amazing feeling, and I would love to go back in time and relive that day. I met new people from different schools and saw old friends that I haven't seen in ages. RTC was such an memorable event that I will always look back at and cherish throughout my high school years. As well, I will be looking forward to other RTC events each year. RTC 2014 would not be a great experience without our Key Club Fam. Lastly, I'd like to say that all our hard work we put into really was worth it.”

DEVIN LEES | JUNIOR MEMBER “Region Five’s Regional Training Conference was absolutely fantastic! It was well organized, the presentations were informative, interesting, and creative. I learned many new things about the Kiwanis and Key Club International chain of command, local leaders, and preferred service projects to improve our community and the globe. It was also great to learn ways to become a member of my local clubs board, their responsibilities, and what personality traits tend to fit a specific position. It is fantastic to see clubs grow and develop as individuals and as clubs as leaders and trailblazers in the community. My personal favorite part of the event was meeting and interacting with other clubs members from the region throughout the spirit battle and presentations. The conference was a wonderful opportunity to come together as clubs, districts, and regions all aiming to reach the goals of the Kiwanis family.”

AEJAE NAVAL | SAA “This year's Regional Training Conference was absolutely exhilarating. It was a thrill to hang out with my club and give our all during the spirit battles. It was great to learn about pretty much Key Club 101 and anything we can do to enjoy our experience as key clubbers while bettering the community. I was happy when I got to see friends I hadn't seen in YEAR. I'm not disappointed we didn't win the spirit battle competition this year because the other clubs gave their best and deserved it. But my RTC wasn't ruined because I still had a great time being spirited while making a complete fool of myself. I honestly can't wait until next year's RTC and bring up our A-Game to win for our division and maybe even for our region!”

RHEALYN BOQUIREN| JUNIOR MEMBER “Turn to the right, there is WCTA. Turn to the left, there is Clark. Turn to the front, there is Valley. To the back is Centennial. All of these clubs, plus more, gathered at one place as one club, Key Club. RTC was an exhilarating first experience! Meeting new people, learning more about Key Club, being with my school, showing spirit, and essentially gathering with many different people with similar goals gave me a new insight on how powerful Key Club can be. It all happened because the members input a great amount of effort to work together and to organize the event, to recruit members, to create, and practice cheers, and to prepare spirit gears. With that, I look forward to next year's RTC!”

Regional Training

SHEILA BIBERA | 2014 HOLLY THE HAWK “RTC was great! Especially since it was my first year of experiencing it, I couldn’t stop smiling as soon as I got home. This year I also got to be Holly, which actually made me proud because I also got to represent our school. Cheering with other schools, making friends with other people, and just seeing everyone in general but a smile on my face.”

JAZZY MARQUEZ | SENIOR MEMBER “Seeing all the enormous clubs was intimidating, but I still knew that we could do it if we tried hard enough. This was my last RTC, and I'm really grateful for how hard everyone tried. We did AMAZING. Getting first place would have been great, but just getting into the top 3 was a wonderful accomplishment. All the other clubs probably didn't even expect us to do that well because our club was so small this year, but we proved them wrong! Good luck to all of you attending RTC next year! Also, remember, Northwest and Holly don't, Northwest and Holly don't, Northwest and Holly don't want none unless you got spirit hun!”

VICTOR DELACRUZ | SAA “Even though it's my second time around, RTC really crept up on me. I had a great time! At lunch, there were a ton of clubs to meet and everyone was very friendly! Being able to see all the other clubs from Vegas and even 38E and 38W was just as amazing as it was last year. One of the best things was seeing all the creative cheers and spirit gear. Hopefully I can make it out next year!”
