Letter from the Editor Greetings Key Club! The year seems to go quicker and quicker these days— It is already September! I hope all of you had a wonderful month full of service and fun. I would love to introduce myself as Rea Sayas, the 2014-2015 bulletin editor, and I am very humbled that all of you have elected me into this position. I hope that my newsletters will not only speak for our club, but speaks for individual voices within the club. With that being said, I would love for all of you to send in articles and pictures to me, so your voice can be heard! As the year goes by, I hope to grow with each one of you to form one, large ohana, and I wish to experience ALL the change we make in our community together. Let’s start a new month with more spirit, more service, and more togetherness. Take care hawks, and enjoy. ♡
Love,
Rea Sayas
Letter from the President Dear Hawks, Our first meeting was a success with a hundred plus showing up! I can already tell this Key Club year is going to be a blast. RTC is fast approaching, with that being said we have forty people going and practicing their cheers and working hard on spirit gear. I cant wait to see everyone at RTC and have fun! Next we have Fall Rally, and this next month we have many walks coming up such as the Alzheimer’s Walk and Breast Cancer Walk! Those are two of our biggest events, and I hope to see you all there. Remember that service is our main goal in Key Club, so don't just attend the fun stuff. I hope you all have had a good start to this school year. Until next month HAWKS! ☺
Love,
Krysta Phoumiphat
The Freshest Incomers ANGIE PARAYNO “In all honesty, I was always told by my brothers to join Key Club because it was a very fun experience for them, and they wanted me to have that experience too. So far, I really enjoy the atmosphere and the people that I have met. Everyone is very friendly, open minded, and have no fear to scream their lungs out! To me, one thing Key Club teaches you is to put yourself out there and have fun. Lastly, I am having fun because with the rest of the members, we all laugh and have a great time.”
SHEILA BIBERA “Summer of 2014, many upperclassmen friends told me to join Key Club. When they convinced me, I thought about it. When Key Club started, I had a feeling of being nervous, also a feeling that I’d get close to this family for the incoming years of high school. Now, I’m starting to feel much more comfortable since I know some people. The only thing I can say is, I don’t regret joining Key Club.”
ALYSSA VUONG—FRESHMAN REP “As a freshman joining key club, I had no idea what to expect. To my surprise everyone was extremely welcoming and happy to have us freshman there. Of course I was a little intimidated by the amount of people, but everyone was so nice and easy to talk to. Only going to a couple meetings I already felt included and part of the family. I look forward to all the memories to come with Key Club, and to grow along the way ”
Soaring Hopes JOHN VO—SENIOR REP “I hope that Key Club this year is the most memorable. The last four years of Key Club have been an enjoyable experience. I can only dream that Key Club makes an impression for future and current members, as it has mine. Hopefully, I will be able to see other members at events to make that dream a reality.”
NOELLE MASANGKAY—JUNIOR "For this year, I hope that we go to more service events. Giving back to the community is such a wonderful feeling, and to have lots of people in the club participate would make things a whole lot better. Also, I hope that we could form a stronger bond with each other, and not just hang out in small groups. Our club adds a lot more members each year, and as each year passes, I get to see more shining faces. I hope that no one feels left out because in the end, we are all just one big, happy Key Club family."
AEJAE NAVAL—SAA “Due to being a previous member, I’ve learned a lot about Key Club and know the types of services the club provides and supports. I have high expectations of all the new members, and I’m hoping that this school year, our club will be able to participate in more community service while getting to know our fellow members and socializing.”
Build the excitement. RTC.
Feel the service and spirit. Light the Night Walk.
Key Club Olympics SHAILA SALINAS—JUNIOR “The Key Club Olympics held at the Kellogs Zaher Park last Saturday contributes to PTP. During the event you get to play different activities against several other schools. It kind of reminded me of Field Day back in elementary school. In between activities we had a couple of breaks and we got to interact with many other people and catch up with some old friends. Although there wasn't as many members attended from our club, it was still a fun event to go to.”
JOHN VO—SENIOR REP “The Key Club Olympics was really fun! The members that went got to interact with the other key clubs such as: Durango, Southwest, and Centennial! Competing against the other clubs was definitely an enjoyable experience that I would do again. We were able to get second in Key Club Trivia, which is great! We had a shortage of numbers in the sponge-bucket game, so Durango and Centennial were generous enough to send over their own members. Key Club is another family and the other clubs are our cousins. It was such a joy. 10/10 would compete again.”
