Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association
Thank you for your investment in Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Fiscal Year 2024 end-of-year rate of return of 9.37 percent has made a wonderful impact on the endowment in which many of you have invested. Our investment performance is solid.
Northwestern looks great. The campus has undergone a wonderful transformation over the past several months with the addition of the Dr. Charles and Jane Tucker Ranger Plaza standing between the Student Center and the Science Building. This gift from the Tucker family creates an impressive place for Northwestern community and alumni events, student functions and outdoor classes.
The renovation of the auditorium in Herod Hall –renamed The Fellers Family Auditorium – has been made possible by the generosity of alumni Kenny and Sue Fellers, the Charles Morton Share Trust and other donors. This center for performing arts on our campus will continue to showcase the talents of students, professional artists and pageant contestants well into the future.
The Northwestern Division of Business has developed a much-needed Master of Business Administration degree program to serve the needs of northwest Oklahoma. This program will offer two areas of concentration, including a management option and a health care administration option.
Northwestern’s enrollment has increased by eight percent for the fall of 2024. While this is excellent news, the need for additional scholarship funding is critical. Northwestern has a long-standing reputation for changing lives through the academic and student life experience. I ask each of you to consider your part in this investment and make a gift to an existing scholarship or elect to endow one of your own. Your investment – our investment – in our students and in our university must continue as we prepare students for their next life chapter.
Finally, it has been an honor to serve as chairman of this fine board. I thank all of the trustees who have joined me in supporting the work of the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association. I look forward to the continuing progress that our alma mater will celebrate in its future, and I deeply appreciate every role each of you have played in Northwestern’s success. It is a great day to be a Ranger.
Ride, Rangers, Ride,
L.D. Rapp Chair, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association Class of 1979
They say you can never go back. Having moved many times in my life, for the most part I believe this is true. My family and I recently visited Alaska, the place we lived for 10 years before we moved to Alva. I finally delivered on a 19-year promise to return with my family. The time there was a mix of emotions, including familiarity, surreality and sadness. Many things had changed and much of it was not for the better. Favorite restaurants and businesses no longer exist. Several public venues are showing their age and decline. It was a wonderful trip, but with some melancholy moments.
I believe coming back to Northwestern Oklahoma State University is completely different. There is constant progress and updates on our campus while preserving our proud heritage. The improvements to Ryerson Hall, once the Fine Arts Building, is one major visual and functional transformation. Our athletic facilities are wonderful enhancements to what existed when I attended here in the ’80s. And this summer, Herod Hall began receiving a muchneeded interior renovation that will greatly improve one of our highest trafficked public venues. One thing that has not changed at Northwestern
is the quality of the people who choose to attend here. I am constantly uplifted by the students I meet who are pursuing college degrees and subsequent professions. While many are concerned about the younger generation, I am excited about the potential for our state and nation because of the young leaders I meet on our campus.
Don’t do what I did and wait years to return. Come back soon and often, and stay connected with your alma mater and your classmates. I cannot remember a single person who has returned to Northwestern and regretted the trip. As Rangers, we know Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a special place where exceptional things happen. You can only be a part of those special events if you are here and involved.
Thank you for your financial investment in our students and our University. We hope this is the year you call your friends and, together, visit Northwestern. We are ready and waiting to see you again.
Ride, Rangers, Ride,
Allen E. “Skeeter” Bird CEO, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association Class of 1985
It is a great day to be a Ranger! The start of the new school year has been exceptional here at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. We are excited to share the university is enjoying an increase in enrollment for the third straight year. With our commitment to keep costs low, Northwestern did not raise tuition and mandatory fees for the fourth straight year for our undergraduate students.
We were happy to see a much-needed investment from our state legislature toward deferred maintenance costs and we appreciate their support for higher education. Northwestern will strategically address critical needs in roofs, HVAC systems, parking lots, and electrical upgrades with this money.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University continues work on many updates to our campus facilities, including our new Dr. Charles and Jane Tucker Ranger Plaza and renovations to Herod Hall with the impressive improvements to The Fellers Family Auditorium. We would love to invite you on your campus and show you these updates. We want and need our alumni engaged with the university and our students. Your continued support is appreciated and critical for our future Ranger graduates.

Dr. Bo Hannaford President
Northwestern Oklahoma State University Class of 1992
Jones owns laser focus, and it has served her well at Northwestern. In her final undergraduate year before walking across the commencement stage in May 2024, Jones successfully balanced two full class schedules, including a final 24-hour class semester; 27 volleyball games in the 2023 season; an internship at the Woods County Economic Development office; and volunteer activities.
“In everything I did, my mom would say ‘Focus. Don’t forget to focus,’” Jones said. “The discipline to stay on target came from both of my parents at a very young age. My dad was into sports and encouraged me to do my best. It was always ‘aim high.’”
While earning her business administration degree, the student-athlete kept herself in top physical shape in the J.R. Holder Wellness Center. She was visibly attentive to each exercise; her eyes never wavered as her mind counted the reps. Jones was intent on excellence in performance.
The volleyball player showed the same drive for excellence in competition. She was deliberate on delivering her best. Her kills – when an attack is unreturnable – were swift. She aptly supported her team with flawless blocks and assists.
Jones’ keen focus also brought her success in the classroom.
“Carmae was one of the top students in the Division of Business,” said Dr. Garrett Lahr, Chair, Division of Business and assistant professor of business. “She excelled both inside and outside of the classroom while at NWOSU. I know she will go on to do great things.”
Jones attended the Spring Showcase – an introduction to Northwestern designed for high school seniors and transfer students – before graduating as valedictorian at Carl Albert High School, Midwest City, Okla.
“It wasn’t the typical college tour with a coach,” Jones recalled. “I was able to gain a perspective of both academics and athletics. I met and visited with so many people. I loved going to the football game. I fell in love with the university because it felt like home. Everyone welcomed me and treated me like family. It has been that way ever since.
“I credit my family for the inspiration and motivation to push forward. Beyond them, I have been blessed
by John Allen
with faculty at Northwestern who have always been there to help me through any challenge. Throughout my time as an athlete, coaches have seen potential in me that I hadn’t seen yet. They pushed me to a level I didn’t realize I could achieve.”
Jones has returned to Northwestern to earn her Master of Business Administration degree with concentration in the health care option.
“A goal with an MBA is to further my understanding of business management concepts and how to utilize them in the healthcare industry,” said Jones. “My ultimate goal is to provide strong leadership and drive improvements across healthcare industries.”
There is no doubt this Ranger will continue to lead in her future.

“I definitely made the right choice,” Braden Williams said about Northwestern.
While in high school at Fort Supply, Okla., Williams planned to attend a university elsewhere.
“But when I stepped foot on Northwestern’s campus, I said, ‘No way am I leaving here.’ I instantly fell in love with Northwestern.”
Williams is one of the first students to be in the 3-1 program.
This accelerated program allows students to complete their first three years at Northwestern and their fourth at medical school. The program allows the students to set their path early and with Northwestern’s guidance.
Williams’ fourth year will be at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Okla. He will finish his biology major and work toward his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in its Rural Medical Track. He will complete the schooling program in seven years rather than eight. In order to be accepted into the program, Williams had to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 science GPA; 90 shadowing hours in the medical field; six recommendations; and three rounds of medical school interviews.
“Braden’s hard work and dedication to being accepted into this accelerated program is an accomplishment that few receive,” said Dr. Jenny Sattler, Department Chair of Natural Science. “I believe he will be an excellent representative of the values of Northwestern Oklahoma State University and its dedication to helping students succeed.”
Williams desire to accomplish his goals started before college. Achieving academic team, winning the high school spelling bee while in eighth grade and qualifying for Academic Meet Tournament of Champions for the state of Oklahoma were just the beginning. He began at Northwestern with 41 credit hours on his transcript. His inspiration came from his parents, who always went above and beyond to make sure he had everything he needed to be successful in life.
The medical field is a career in which Williams has always been interested. As a young boy, he watched his cousin become a family doctor and knew he wanted to follow in her footsteps.
For more information on the 3-1 program, visit www.nwosu.edu/school-of-arts-and-sciences/natural-science.
by Kennedy Dietz
“I have always wanted to help people and I knew the medical field is where I would do that,” said Williams.
Williams was diagnosed with Atrial Tachycardia, a type of abnormal heart rhythm, in 2021. After experiencing how his cardiologist treated him and his family in a kind, respectable manner throughout the medical process, Williams did not feel defeated after his diagnosis. He used his experience as motivation. Williams said, “It assured me that I did, in fact, want to go to medical school.”
At Northwestern, Williams has kept a busy schedule. He works as a student employee at the J.R. Holder Wellness Center and works part-time at Share Medical Center in Alva, Okla., to gain additional experience. Williams is active in intramural sports and has earned recognition on the President’s Honor Roll and the Red and Black Scroll Honor Society.
“Northwestern has helped me mature and learn how to balance my responsibilities,” said Williams. “Everyone at Northwestern is extremely helpful and I’m not sure where I would be without the support.”
Long has always been a small-town girl. Growing up in a town of 58 people, Long appreciated the tight-knit community of Gate, Okla. She graduated from Laverne High School in 2021. Long then followed her dream of attending Northwestern just as her grandparents and parents did before her.
The top-ranked education program was an easy decision for her.
“Attending Northwestern gives students many more opportunities they would not be able to obtain at a larger university,” said Long. “People in the community are so personable and willing to help the younger generation.”
Long will graduate in May 2025 with her degree in Early Childhood Education. She will complete her observation hours in the fall of 2024 and student teach in the spring of 2025.
While enrolled in Science and Social Studies Methods, Long created a hands-on lesson plan.
“I helped create a farmers market dramatic play center.” This pretend play model used the students’ imagination with props and prompts.
“In my personal experience, children learn best through play.”
Long incorporated the lesson plan in a pre-k classroom.
“The students were excited to learn about the process of purchasing and selling pretend produce from the farmers market.”
Long modeled how to successfully buy, sell, and interact with pretend customers and vendors in a developmentally appropriate manner.
“Madeline is the type of student who you know will be a fantastic teacher,” Summer Foster, an education instructor, said. “She shows genuine excitement for her lessons and provides creative and engaging experiences for her students. She will be an asset to her future employer and a beloved teacher to her future students.”
by Kennedy Dietz
Long has grown to love the community of Alva, and plans to pursue her teaching career in the Alva Public Schools. She is excited to work with young children to foster their love of learning.
“Children love school at an early age and I want to help keep that passion for them.”
Long has worn many hats at Northwestern. She has acted in two children’s plays; served as the Student Government Association secretary; has been a resident assistant and currently a hall supervisor; was a peer leader for a Ranger Connection class; and is in the Leadership Northwestern class. Long has been recognized on the Black and Red Scroll Honor Society and the President’s Honor Roll.
“The Northwestern college experience has helped me create a better work ethic and I have learned to be more independent. Northwestern has encouraged me to seek opportunities on and off campus.”

The Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association is committed to providing Northwestern Oklahoma State University and its students the resources required to thrive in a competitive collegiate environment and future endeavors.
The Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association will:
•Place the success of the students and the university foremost in our plans.
•Strengthen the legacy of professionalism, loyalty, sincerity, integrity and reliability with everyone we encounter.
•Foster and maintain positive relationships and communication with our alumni and community, to promote a positive giving climate.
•Build on our strong sense of tradition, family and community and ensure our donors understand how everyone plays a part in the success of a Northwestern student.
Northwestern has not increased tuition in the last four years.
The Donovan Reichenberger Fundraising Award was established in 2010 by the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association with the goal to recognize the private fundraising efforts of Northwestern Oklahoma State University faculty and staff. Named for Donovan Reichenberger and his example of generous fundraising service, the award honors an individual who seeks to further the mission and vision of the university, allowing continued prosperity during a critical time of diminishing state support.
Reichenberger served as a history professor at Northwestern from 1967 to 1993.
Robbie Harman, head men’s basketball coach, was awarded the Donovan Reichenberger Fundraising Award in 2024. Harman recently secured $40,000 for his basketball program.
During his two years leading the men’s basketball program, Harman has organized camps and launched other fundraising endeavors to build the program. This past year, he placed an emphasis on the 6th Man Club, as well as increasing engagement and fundraising with former Ranger players.

In 2020, the leadership of Northwestern Oklahoma State University elected to make a strategic move to secure funding for a long-term student leadership emphasis at Northwestern with the creation of the Northwestern Leadership Trust. This endowment replaced the President’s Association (originally the Presidential Partners program).
The Northwestern Leadership trust is an annual commitment to support leadership development for Northwestern students.
The institutional emphasis on freedom of thought, independent research, thorough analysis and critical thinking established Northwestern as a highly successful creator of young leaders who have grown to make a huge impact on our world.
The Northwestern Leadership Trust, like the programs before, will continue to support the President’s Leadership Class (PLC). PLC, led by the University president, is a highly competitive program for first-time freshmen that allows Northwestern to attract the best and brightest students from the region. As the endowment grows, additional programs will be supported.
“I believe the PLC class and these types of experiences are important in developing our leaders of tomorrow. We will work hard to provide every one of our students with lessons and experiences to develop each of them into leaders who will be able to problem solve, communicate, and work well with others as they lead.” said Dr. Bo Hannaford, President

(Rangers
in
and Education) is an endowment pooled from thousands of smaller donations that allows Northwestern Oklahoma State University to help students wherever it sees a need for student financial support. As of June 30, 2024, there is $1,646,831.56 in the RISE endowment.
With RISE, which began in 2006, there is not a pledge commitment or a minimum or maximum dollar amount. Every dollar matters and every dollar makes an impact for our students and their academic journeys. We only ask that everyone give at the level that makes them feel invested in our students and our university.

Kenny and Sue Fellers – Northwestern alumni and visionaries – recently made a lead investment to begin the renovation of the Herod Hall Auditorium, now renamed The Fellers Family Auditorium. This donation, combined with investments from the Charles Morton Share Trust and other donors, funded new auditorium seating, flooring, wall treatment, updated restrooms and other improvements.
These investments will clearly make a transformational difference at Northwestern. Yet, our community investment must increase beyond these initial major updates. Now we are establishing an endowment and seeking your support for the proper maintenance and improvements of this prominent, historical venue for the future.
You can help ensure the physical sustainability and prominence of The Fellers Family Auditorium through a charitable contribution to the Northwestern Performing Arts Operational Endowment.
In return, your gift at levels of $1,500, $1,000 or $500 will be honored with a small bronze nameplate recognizing your investment in the performing arts of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This nameplate will be affixed to one of the new seats in the renovated facility, honoring you and your investment. If you prefer, you may choose to honor a student, an alum, a loved one or your organization.
For more information on how you can play a vital role in Northwestern’s performing arts excellence, scan the QR code or go to https://ournorthwestern.org/ffanp.
