The PJA Perspective Portland Jewish Academy (pjaproud.org) provides a rich academic and cultural learning experience for kids from early childhood through 8th grade. We’ve invited budding journalists from PJA’s writing club for 6th grade to join our team for a series that gives you a glimpse into thoughts and life – from their perspective.
Imagine This by WeiLan The ballerina leaps, leaving twinkles of stars behind her Her wand pointing to the sky as the murky clouds drift away Leaving us to the panorama view of a water-blue sky Rainbows sparkle like glitter on a five-year-old’s painting Life is growing A trip A fall All that’s left is dust from the faded stars She doesn’t give up She’s disappearing She whispers: Imagine this Performing her last twirl... Magic reappears WeiLan is a current sixth grader at PJA. In addition to writing, she enjoys arts and crafts, music, and playing Squash.
Alone by WeiLai
Screams echo in my head Driving me through the rough and uneven roads that never end Driving me crazy Waves shower over me, rapid and ready to eat their new prey Ready to pull me apart from others Ready to wash away reality Cries, shrieks, screeches Tearing me apart Like ripping a fragile piece of paper Like a rip through me Life is so close, yet so distant I reach out my hand, but can’t quite reach my goal I will never reach it I’m broken inside and can’t understand myself No one can No one will My emotions are a jumble of jigsaw puzzle pieces But impossible to ever be complete I do have feelings, feelings that I can’t put my finger on Ash falls upon me For I have experienced both love and loss Hatred stabs me like a piercing lightning bolt Taking away all the energy left inside of me I’m worn out and tired Like an old shaggy coat I am nothing but a speck of light in the darkness The type of darkness that devours you in one bite The type that has no mercy But within it all, I know that I am not alone I am surrounded by people who are going through the same feelings The same emotions The same emptiness WeiLai is a current seventh grader at PJA. Other than writing, she enjoys swimming, acting, singing, and art. NW Kids Magazine | 21
