Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation

Get Ready for Summer with Swim Lessons! Is your child ready for swim lessons? Brooklyn Walker, Head Lifeguard and Head Swim Instructor at Villa Sport in Beaverton says swimming success depends a lot on the child and whether they want to learn. But there are benefits to starting early. “It takes time to overcome fears and get comfortable in the water,” Walker says. “Starting early gives kids that head start.” Walker points out that it’s important to find lessons they love because it will make learning fun. Being pushed out of their comfort zone is hard for kids, but when they have the support of a great teacher, and parents, it helps a lot. “Swimming is a life skill!” Walker says. “Unlike soccer or baseball you can do it for your entire life. It’s a full body workout that can literally save your life!” Villasport
