Editor’s Note The spring equinox is just around the corner and we can’t wait. As we’re seeing a decline in Covid cases, this spring comes with the glimmer of hope that life will be returning to something that resembles normal at some point on the horizon. Here at NW Kids, we’re gearing up for our first in-person Summer Camp Expo since 2019. Trackers Earth is sponsoring the expo this year and all signs point to a fantastic summer camp season. We’re bringing all of the best area camps to OMSI on Saturday, April 23rd (10am-5pm). Bring your families, pick up some swag, check out your favorite camps and learn about some new ones! We can’t wait to see you there. Speaking of summer camps, this is our first Summer Camp Guide of the season. Take a look and start planning for summer 2022. In the meantime, may you and yours be well! Cheers,

Mary

If Only

Gardening Thoughts

If only there had been a flower Outside my door Instead of all the worries I never want to explore The dark, the frightening, ready to be released from captivity To break the walls and burst through as I try to run away They say they just want to play Trying to convince me to stay If only there had been a flower To break the silence And end the violence It would have given us guidance If only there had been a flower We could have saved hours It would have given us tons of power Goodbye flower Now we have to cower Thank you, flower Goodbye, power Avna is a current sixth-grader at PJA. In addition to writing, she enjoys acrobatics, her dog, and Humanities class!

A new idea Sprouting in my mind A buttercup A pretty idea Just to be sweet And loving A new idea Sprouting in my mind A Venus flytrap A dangerous idea Just to kill And be selfish A new idea Sprouting in my mind A dandelion A unique idea Just to change And become My mind is like a garden Very pretty, yes But there are also weeds And I can’t get rid of them all There’s love and death Change and stillness Not a new idea Not even sprouting A very little snake Slithering Even with the weeds It still calls my mind home Yon is a current seventh-grader at PJA. In addition to writing, they enjoy drawing, birds, and Steven Universe.
