JUNE 2017 ISSUE #14
I am so excited to drop this issue full of unique stories! We have a ton of fun content this month, but I’m going
to use this space to focus on one story and one issue. This month I interviewed Mike Smith of The Healing Center Medical Clinic, a doctor’s office that authorizes patients in Alaska. I am really excited to share the interview and his views about MMJ, and wanted to share my own. I believe all use of Cannabis is medicinal. Period. At it’s purest form a medicine is any substance that delivers wellness or well-being, and at the most basic form of Cannabis use, recreational, that is exactly what our plant delivers. This is important, because many many people are using pot medicinally when they think they are just getting high. Self medicating can be damaging with alcohol or pharmaceuticals, but with Cannabis, the side effect is a recreational high that makes you feel better. This is important to understand because right now you might be smoking pot to enjoy a movie, to relax after work, to chase away a cloudy day or spend a sunny one tossing flies into a still stretch of water. All wonderful reasons, but what about when you had a rough day? Or a day when back pain lingers? Or simply because it’s Monday. That’s medicinal, and the bridge point for the future use. If there is one thing I’ve learned over the last seven years of working with pot, and through my own family experiences, it’s that life takes a toll as we age. And as we age, more and more pharmaceuticals get thrown, with side effects and pills to treat the side effects of the other pills. And I have watched countless people ditch pharma, primarily use Cannabis, and deal with the woes of life’s aging and stresses gracefully and in a healthy way. And that all starts with smoking a joint on a beautiful sunny day and realizing it makes you feel good, feel well and feel happy. That is the basis for medical Cannabis, and there is almost no limit to the conditions it can help, or the healing and health it can deliver mentally, physically and spiritually. I hope that this can lead people to the concept of MMJ, and the healing and blessings that come with growing a plant for personal medicinal use. It’s a beautiful thing.

Willie Nelson To jeff sessions:
Smoke Some Weed Pot-hating Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently said marijuana is only “slightly less awful” that heroin. Music legend Willie Nelson has responded by saying that Jeff Sessions needs to smoke some weed. “I wonder if he’s tried both of them,” Nelson, said to Rolling Stone. “I don’t think you can really make a statement like that unless you tried it all. So I’d like to suggest to Jeff to try it and then let me know later if he thinks he’s still telling the truth!” Nelson markets his own brand of marijuana, Willie’s Reserve, in legal states. He often speaks glowingly of his personal experiences with weed. Willie was asked if there’s any downside to smoking pot. “I haven’t run into any yet,” he said. “I guess if you go somewhere where it’s illegal, that’s a pretty good downside.” Nelson has been busted several times for weed. Nelson’s 61st album, God’s Problem Child, was released last month. It features the song “Still Not Dead,” which humorously addresses the numerous “Willie’s gone” rumors which have swept across social media lately.

CANNABIS EVENT RETURNING TO ALASKA
Coming back to Alaska is a much-praised event, the consumer-focused THC Fair, happening in Fairbanks at the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds on June 24-25 and then in Anchorage on July 29-30 at the Sheraton on 6th Avenue. Last year’s events took place without incident and both events are returning to the same venues. With the maturing of the Cannabis industry in both Fairbanks and Anchorage, attendance is expected to be significantly larger than last year when the marijuana retail stores were not yet open. ROADBLOCKS AHEAD?
Industry insiders are mostly optimistic about the growth trend for the industry but concerned about proposed changes to regulations that may hamper the current growth trends. According to the agenda for the next Alaska Marijuana Control Board (MCB) meeting on May 15 in Anchorage, the Board was bringing back a proposal to require background checks for marijuana handler card applicants. This issue was tabled previously. Representatives from the industry point out the already limited workforce in Alaska and cite potential damaging results to their businesses if job candidates are kept from working in the industry due to prior convictions for non-violent crimes that would be immaterial to the jobs at hand. While more growers are coming online in the state, there are still shortages of marijuana flower in some areas. Some Anchorage retailers hit a dry patch and approached retailers with their own cultivation licenses for product. Despite the ebb and flow of supply, Alaska’s Cannabis industry generated more than $200,000 in tax revenue for the state in April. Associations such as the Alaska Marijuana Industry Association (AMIA) and the Anchorage Cannabis Business Association (ACBA) are making commitments to giving back to their communities. The ACBA formed a special committee dedicated to identifying and coordinating community giving projects for its members to participate in. The Fairbanks chapter of the AMIA held an event in April that raised more than 300 pounds of food for the local community food bank bringing their total contribution to date to more than 1,000 pounds of food donated since December 2016. Cannabaska, a marijuana retail store, and Terra House, LLC, a limited marijuana cultivation facility, will be facing the Alaska MCB on May 15. Cannabaska is facing a possible civil fine for allegedly violating 3 AAC 306.310(b)(3)(A) that states: (b) A licensed retail marijuana store may not (3) offer or deliver to a consumer, as a marketing promotion or for any other reason, (A) free marijuana or marijuana product, including a sample. Terra House, LLC is requesting the Board to consider their request to implement 3 AAC 306.660(b) to be allowed to “use a batch of marijuana that failed a required test to be used to make a carbon dioxide- or solvent-based extract.”

he Alaska Cannabis community and indeed the greater community and world lost a beautiful, kind and loving pioneer in April to a rare form of cervical cancer. Theresa was a person who glowed with love and genuine care for people, coupled with a fierce strength to stand and fight for what she believed in. It was this combination of love and strength that made her so rare, a truly special person who left her mark on countless lives in a time that was too short for everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, and especially for her. Theresa left her mainstream career to start Pot Luck Events and participate in the budding Cannabis industry, and became one of the most polarizing figures in the state’s attempts to limit freedoms for the plant she loved. But she never backed down, and Pot Luck served as a gathering place and support group for the entire community, she was at the center of it all. Seeing her surrounded by friends and members, laughing and sharing in community and Cannabis in a truly positive way was an incredible experience, and one that can never be taken away. Even in the face of cancer, Theresa let her light shine bright, fighting until the very end and continuing to uplift others around her even as she battled against what ultimately took her life. Though she is no longer with us, it is certain that she is smiling down on the community she led and an industry she helped pioneer, shining on through every smile she shared and every life she touched.

NELSON SAID THAT PROPAGANDA PREVENTED HIM FROM CONSUMING THE PLANT IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS
16/june 2017 FACEBOOK.COM/NWLEAF
bly already know he’s a Cannabis advocate and consumer. There’s also no denying that Willie Nelson is a musical genius. He started writing songs in his hometown of Abbott, Texas at age 7 – and joined his first band at 10 years old. Throughout his career, he’s won almost every accolade imaginable – from Grammy awards to Kennedy Center honors. He’s a revolutionary country artist that helped define and create the outlaw sounds of the 1960s and 1970s and straddled multiple genres from jazz to classical music. Strangely enough, Nelson was a bit of a late-comer to Cannabis. In his recent memoir “It’s a Long Story,” Nelson said that propaganda prevented him from consuming the plant in his younger years. “I was a hick from Abbott. I’d seen ‘Reefer Madness,’ and I was a little worried that a little pot might get me crazy. Wasn’t I crazy enough?” It wasn’t until the early 70s when Nelson was in his late thirties that he started to embrace the “hippy lifestyle” and smoke with more frequency. While Cannabis didn’t change his sound all that much, it changed his attitude, and his audience significantly. “I liked that [the kids] had courage to look and act any damn way they pleased,” he writes. “The new world represented by the Grateful Dead or the Jefferson Airplane was new only in appearance. [It] appealed to me because it was bold and creative and said to the world, ‘To hell with what you think. I’ll dress any way I please.’ ” These new revelations led to Nelson’s most critically-acclaimed and popular period of his career. In 1975, he recorded his seminal “Red Headed Stranger” which would set the stage for his most successful recordings and stage appearances to come. Always one to speak his mind, Willie Nelson never shied away from the spotlight: “My love affair with pot became a long-term marriage,” he writes. “It was, by far, the smoothest of all my marriages. As I moved closer to the Woodstock Nation, as I bore witness to their music-loving, life-loving, peace-loving ways, I saw the key role played by pot. Pot was a communal experience,” he writes. “Weed calmed me. Liquor made me reckless. Weed made me careful.” From smoking on top of the White House roof during the Carter administration, to sharing a joint with Snoop Dogg, Toby Keith or Dave Matthews or acting in “Half Baked” smoking a joint with Dave Chappelle – Willie Nelson has become one of the most high-profile Cannabis advocates in popular culture today.

OWNER | THE HEALING CENTER MEDICAL CLINIC Mike Smith is a longtime medical Cannabis activist whose clinics have authorized more than 20,000 patients since 2007 and more than 5,000 patients across Alaska. The clinic operates monthly in Anchorage and Fairbanks, authorizing the medical use of Cannabis while sharing information about the plant and its many uses. Learn more about the clinics at their site TheHealingCenterMedicalClinic.org
20/JUNE 2017 FACEBOOK.COM/NWLEAF
WHEN DID YOU FIRST START YOUR CLINIC AND WHAT STATE WERE YOU WORKING WITH PATIENTS IN? We started in Alaska in January 2012, overall in 2007, and the first clinic would have been in Montana. I owned dispensaries at the time in Montana, and there were no doctors that were available that were really authorizing patients, so I went to California and recruited a Cannabis friendly doctor. We got him licensed in Montana and eventually in Alaska, and he wrote authorizations for us until he retired from Parkinson’s.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO GET STARTED IN MEDICAL CANNABIS THAT EARLY, AND HOW DID IT FEEL TO HELP BRING PEOPLE ACCESS TO MEDICINE? It was great! We ended up having about 30,000 patients total in the state of Montana, and about 5,000 of those came through our own office. It’s the most rewarding thing that I have ever done. To help another person get access to a treatment that they want to have, and to see them a year later and they have dropped half the pharmaceuticals they take, it’s incredible. Ultimately Montana was great until the legislature decided that access for patients was open, and they gutted their medical program in 2011, and it’s been difficult there ever since.
WAS ALASKA YOUR SECOND STATE? WHAT DID YOU DO WHEN MONTANA SHUT DOWN We actually went to Arizona first, as Montana was being shut down AZ was starting to ramp up, and we were there for a year. The governor there did everything she could to stop the program, and I was looking for other states to help patients and I found Alaska. When I called the department that handles MMJ cards in 2011 they told me there were only 300 on the registry out of 700,000 people, and I knew there was a need for our service. Our first clinic weekend we saw over 150 people!
WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE LIKE IN ALASKA? We had a great response, people were very thankful that we had showed up to do this. Many of the patients had asked their normal doctor who may be Cannabis friendly, but they had some reason they wouldn’t sign the document for a patient. Once we got there I literally had people hugging me and crying and thanking us for doing this. Again, it’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
HOW DO YOU FEEL PERSONALLY ABOUT THE MEDICAL USE OF CANNABIS? I believe that MMJ can help society in more ways than just medicine, we’re just at the tip of the iceberg right now. We really need to reschedule Cannabis, to let science discover all the potentials that this God given plant can produce for us. The reason I want to get access to people is in my own life many years ago my brother who has since passed had AIDS, and we saw him use Marinol, and it did not work. But when we saw him use Cannabis it did work, so I do this partly as a testament to my older brother Andy, because I have personally seen that the pharmaceutical companies don’t necessarily tell you the truth, they’re just there to get money. This plant is something you can produce at your house, without a pharmaceutical company, and then you can treat yourself for your condition and that in itself is a medicine as well.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS LIKE TO BECOME A PATIENT AT YOUR CLINIC? DO YOU THINK THAT CANNABIS IS TRULY LEGAL? WHAT DOES LEGALIZATION MEAN TO YOU? If it’s going to be legal it should be legal like carrots. I could open a carrot stand anywhere and sell my carrots to anybody, and if you don’t like carrots then pick a fruit, but that’s not what we have now. We have a very slim window for recreational that is on its way out potentially thanks to the new federal administration, and MMJ is the only thing that the government has openly said is OK under the new administration. So that’s why we encourage everyone to get their card and be as protected as possible.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO BEING A PATIENT IN ALASKA? The benefit is that right along with the whole subsistence lifestyle of hunting, fishing and living life on your own terms, you can grow your own medicine and not rely on pharmaceuticals or another grower or store. Overall, we have authorized over 6,000 patients in AK since starting! Ever since I started growing I never stopped, and we want to bring that to others, it’s very rewarding to be able to grow your own medicine and use it.
The process is a non-invasive visit with a doctor, with basic paperwork like any doctor office. The doctor reviews existing medical records for the condition, approves the use if it meets the condition, issues the patient the paperwork and it’s sent on to the state of AK. It takes them about three weeks, and then a patient is added to the system and issued a card. It costs $225 for a year authorization, but that does not include state fee of $25, and we give every patient free seeds of high CBD strains. We offer a higher plant count and possession limit, which authorizes patients to have up to 24 plants and 24 ounces. Because Alaska skipped having a MMJ dispensary system, and we know most patients aren’t professional growers, this allows them to have enough plants to maintain a garden and make extracts or oils that are essential to use Cannabis medicinally.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE FUTURE, AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE CHANGE FOR THE WORLD WITH CANNABIS? I feel honored and privileged to be able to be in the position to help people. And it’s not something I’m walking away from any time soon. We are currently in Colorado and Alaska, due to open in Florida and Ohio, we’re just waiting for the medical boards in those states. We would like to be able to write them in all locations where there are qualified patients in need of this service, in every state at some point. I believe medical Cannabis should come before recreational use. There’s nothing wrong with recreational, I think it’s less detrimental to health and the public than alcohol, but, a big but, my medical patients are the most important thing to me, so I am sticking with that.

Carlson naturally tapered off her meds once her health stabilized. After finding out she was pregnant in 2008, with her doctor’s approval, she successfully weaned herself off of all prescribed anticonvulsants. “I was seizure-free from 2008 all the way until last summer. I experienced my second seizure while driving on Highway 26 trying to get to the hospital. I am lucky to be alive,” Carlson said. Three days after the episode, she applied for her OMMP card. Carlson knew from the get-go she didn’t want to go back on harsh anticonvulsants again. As of last fall, Carlson started using highCBD strains of Cannabis to keep stress levels low and her chances of going into a seizure minimal. “I have a huge emphasis on CBD. I use CBD in all forms, edible, flower, concentrate, topical, when I feel a seizure coming on. I try to intake as much CBD as possible to stabilize myself. I loved using the CBD patches, back when dispensaries carried them. I have trouble with the sleep-wake transition, and the patch stabilizes me into my morning routine,” Carlson said. Carlson believes she’s had the best success as a medical patient in Oregon because everything was regulated and organized through the state. Test labs existed and you actually knew what you were smoking – which is important as a patient treating specific medical conditions such as PNES. “I am less successful at treating myself without a medical card. It’s more like ‘flowers for fun’ back when all you had was the unregulated market,” Carlson said. “I can maintain my quality of life with Cannabis. I can’t do that on pills. No matter what kind of health issues you are dealing with, when it comes to treatment options, you want something that works really well and doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day life. I found that with Cannabis. I have been seizure-free since my incident last summer, Carlson said beaming with pride. It was awe-inspiring to hear Carlson’s story of healing and perseverance through Cannabis. Thank you for sharing your story with our readers!

W h at k i n d o f j o b s a r e ava i l a b l e ? The beautiful thing about the Cannabis industry is that in a seed-to-sale system there are a ton of jobs and opportunities to find employment, and no two areas are exactly the same. While certain facilities or operations might have specialized jobs outside of this list, these are the common types of jobs that one can expect to look for in the weed world.
Budtender This is the person who helps con-
nect a consumer to their Cannabis. Much like a bartender is expected to mix good cocktails, a budtender is expected to be knowledgeable about Cannabis, passionate, helpful and a people person.
Security Security can be as simple as check-
ing IDs at the door of a dispensary to providing security for a garden or a third party that provides security services for cash drops, etc.
buyer Retail stores often have a manager in-
charge of purchasing the products that end up on the shelf, this is a hugely important job and one that.
trimming Just like it sounds, trimming fresh bud before it goes to market. This can be direct for a garden, or through a third party trimming company.
packaging Once pot is trimmed it must be
packaged, in a time consuming and labor intensive process that needs a lot of hands.
garden help/management This work can be as
simple as watering plants and doing things that seem almost trivial, like cleaning and helping a facility run smoothly. But this is the start to becoming a proficient gardener. If you have no garden experience, a willingness to get dirty and work hard is a must. If you have experience, be prepared to learn someone’s system, and always be humble — theres a lot of work to be done on the garden end, and learning that skill can turn into a career.
GET WOR
everything else There are ancillary companies
popping up to handle all areas of pot, from security to trimming to general labor to companies like this magazine. If none of the above sound interesting to you, reach out to something else that touches the industry. You could work at a glass shop, learn to blow glass, learn transportation of Cannabis, or even volunteer to help a patient organization.

So you want to find a job in the emerging Cannabis industry? Living the dream is easier than you think, but there is a process.
ORK
Getting your Marijuana H a n d l e r’ s C a r d You’ve decided to get a job in the weed industry! Now you need just one more thing before you can get started. We are all thinking we’ve been “handling” pot for a long time. Think of this like a food handler’s card, but with a little more studying required to learn the rules of the industry. A Marijuana Handler’s Card is required to work in any state licensed Cannabis facility, producing, processing or retailing. W H AT A B O U T B E C O M I N G A master gardener? The first step is registering with the state at Commerce.Alaska.gov The instructions are simple, but we’ll outline them here: Register your name and password, and you’re entered in the system. This will issue you a cover page document that affirms you have filed with the state. Next, you take a handler’s card course and test. I took the HandleAlaska.com test by Kim Cole, and found it to be the most educational and focused one of the five or so that are available. Plan on spending an afternoon clicking through the powerpoint course, learning all the rules and regulations that are extremely important for anyone in the industry, and then take the test! If you pass, it’s on to the final step. The Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office (AMCO) has physical locations in Anchorage and Fairbanks, and applications can also be mailed in. The easiest way is to go in person, in Anchorage and Fairbanks the office is open Wednesday’s from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This is the only time you can be issued a Marijuana Handler’s Card. Show up between those hours with your cover letter, a copy of your Marijuana Handler Permit Education Course Certificate, and a check/money order (no cash) for $50, and put on your biggest smile for their cameras! Within minutes you will have your own MJ Handler’s Card, and be ready to start on your new dream job in the pot industry!
No. I’m sorry guys, but this goes
out to basically everyone in Alaska and really the world. Do you know how many times we have met the world’s best grower? Too many to count. The only true “Master Grower” is one with a college degree in horticulture and years of experience growing Cannabis, and those are few and far between. If you want to work in a garden and have experience in your own, use that experience to show your level of skill and comfort with the plant, and be humble about your abilities. We all have something to learn in the garden, and in an ever-evolving industry, the ability to continually learn is the most valuable thing a grower can bring to the garden.

STRAIN OF THE MONTH Review by ALASKA LEAF | PHOTO by OSCAR AVELLANEDA-CRUZ
Our featured strain this month is a local twist on a classic favorite, the infamous Bubblegum that mixes a sweet taste and euphoric high with classical pot looks. The big and fluffy buds have a medium density and a light squish, with trichomes lightly covering the outside surface of the flower. Cracking apart a nug unveils a sweet smell truly reminiscent of Bubblegum, with a light earthiness that settles in after the sweetness fades. This cross of Northern Lights and Big Bud is an Indica dominant hybrid, with an interesting flavor profile and effects that really emphasize the hybrid nature of the flower. Smoking a bowl of this uniquely flavored strain delivers a sweet and warm smoke that is clean and mild on exhale, with a light tingle and very little cough. The high sets in slowly, this strain can definitely be classified as a creeper, slowly building up until crashing onto the mind and body with waves of Cannabis euphoria and intense relaxation in the body. This strain feels like the old school, and definitely packs a special punch that the newer designer strains seem to be missing, despite the high THC numbers. This strain is extremely cerebral and will have the mind spinning while the body slowly melts into a relaxed bliss. The Bubblegum genetics are known for having a happy and euphoric effect that is highly sought after, and we were not disappointed with this beautiful flower! We really enjoyed going into Alaska Buds and experiencing the “deli style system of recreational pot. Customers are able to walk into the shop and open jars of almost every strain on the shelf, smelling and seeing (but not touching!) the flower and getting to have a personal experience by choosing their Cannabis. Stop by, pick out a nug of this awesome Eskimo Bubblegum, and give the deli style experience a try for all your Cannabis needs. The Northwest Cannabis Classic returned to Anchorage for a third year but at a new venue, delivering a festive blend of trade show, Cannabis Cup and community.
IMPROVING A CLASSIC
W
ith the Cannabis industry taking shape and gaining steam every day, The Northwest Cannabis Classic was an interesting reflection of the state of the industry at this time. While there were fewer vendor booths and attendees this year, the inclusion of an industry awards show helped round out an already high-quality event. Cory and Kendra Wray, the event’s married cofounders, said this year was one of many firsts, and some areas to enhance or improve next year. “Overall I think it went well,” Cory said. “It was a lot of firsts for us. GLASS ART
PHOTOS by DANIEL BERMAN @BERMANPHOTOS
I am still trying to sort my thoughts on this weekend... After attending a bunch for events over the last 7 years we wanted to do one where everyone involved felt good when they left. From our artist participants to our generous ticket buyers. From the staff who all killed it to the folks who trusted us with their one of a kind property.... I think we did it. I won’t tag anyone because there is no way I could tag everyone who helped make it the gathering it was. I will say that I truly appreciate you all. I got so many REAL heart to heart hugs that I will never forget... In the end we hosted 200+ people from around the nation. We shared meals, we shared cabins. We shared a little pain when our new friends car shattered on the floor. We all shared in the joy after he worked all night long to build an all new car before the race. On Saturday night we dusted off track and ran the cars for the glory. Kenny Hashmouf and previous champ Badger Glass squared up for the final run of the day. With a 3 second run. Kenny took the win over some of the biggest names in the glass game. He was my pick from the the start... After the races we all bellied up for a hot lasagna dinner and the auction. In 2 hours we raised nearly $22k for the kids camp and our partners at the Evergreen State Project. It would have been worth all the hard work if we only got to enjoy each other... Walking away with the large donations is just icing on the cake. I can’t thank all 200+ of you enough for the joy I felt at the end of the night. You all gave me something I can’t buy. The pride I have for our community has filled my heart.

THE SCRATCH & SNIFF of BOOK WEED By SETH MATLINS & EVE EPSTEIN, 2017, 278 PAGES, $19.95
I
t’s been said that you need to have a gimmick to move product. If that’s really the case, then the authors of this book are sitting pretty. I’ve read a lot of books about Cannabis, but this is the first “scratch and sniff ” one I’ve ever seen. It’s a great concept. The execution, however, proves to be a little tricky. Those beautifully delicate terpenes that we all love so much, which provide so much of the pleasure of a Cannabis high, are extraordinarily difficult to reproduce. That’s probably why, on a chart of 12 marijuana strains, only three have actual scratch-and-sniff panels. For the curious, the three scratch-and-sniff strains are Sour Diesel (not even close), OG Kush (a little better), and Blueberry Kush (closest of the three to the actual weed terpenes). We are presumably left to wonder about the scent of other strains represented on the chart, including such chart-toppers as Green Crack, GS Cookies, Bubba Kush,

The impact of that knowledge has made the plethora of “all organic” nutrient lines all but obsolete. Another new brand out of California, Greenstone Nutrient provides a bit Newer nutrient formulas seemed to have responded to the trend more of the “traditional” approach to nutrient formulation. and began more specifically producing formulas for hydroponic, Greenstone still adds simplicity to the ethos and openly makes mineral based feeding systems instead of an “all in one, feeds any recommendations to omit certain formulas based on the memedium” marketing. effective system and a wonderful alternative to anyone familiar with General Hydroponics’ two-part formula now that GH is owned by the demon of all human existence, Monsanto. Of particular note are two powders Greenstone makes: Foundation, a well-designed endomycorrhizae product devoid of any ecto which cannot colonize Cannabis roots in a mineral-dense environment as well as Aquafish, powder hydrolyzed fish which is loaded with nitrogen and greens up a plant like almost no other product I’ve used, equaled perhaps only by nitrozyme.

Brought to you by the industry leaders in RDWC systems Cultured Solution runs especially well in RDWC due to its ultra clean, low to no suspension formulas. These features carry over well into other hydroponic mediums. Super simple, Cultured Solutions created a complete A+B Veg as well as an A+B Bloom formula that needs little else. Using nothing but “A” and “B”, depending on vegetative stage or bloom stage and you’ll get great results. The root product is designed specifically for RDWC sterile systems and should only be applied to sterile feeding environments. Since properly balanced microbiologicals are more effective than sterile mediums in just about every other medium scenario, many gardeners will not need to use this product. For those looking to push production further, Cultured Solutions makes a flower boosting formula as well. As someone who tested one of their earlier released nutrient lines, I can tell you from personal experience they listened to feedback from their customers, made adjustment and I’m happy to report, improved their bloom booster formula. In this case, they broke the formula up to account for their already very complete “A” and “B” base bloom as well and the manufacturer’s recommendations for nitrogen application through the flowering schedule. Again, all formulas are concentrated, designed with the hydroponic gardener in mind and run super clean.
Veg+Bloom hydroponic-research.com
Grab your socks and pull. I have found my allaround recommendation for hydroponic gardeners of any medium and any skill level. Read the website name and it’s not hard to figure out what this company is about. It’s about creating the easiest to use formula ever created for Cannabis farmers that
performs outrageously well. You can hear the other nutrient companies just shitting their pants with the advent of a formula like Veg+Bloom. Not only is this nutrient powerful and effective at creating high yields of boutique quality Cannabis but it is inexpensive when compared to any of the other more heavily marketed nutrients available. As a powder, you don’t pay anyone for water and mixing labor, they keep the costs down by providing their formula as a dry powder only. Further, this company saw a need to fill, and stepped up by creating a specific formula of even higher concentration made for those using automated nutrient dosing technology. Their schedule and application recommendations are easy enough to memorize. They offer three products you can apply to medium and a foliar spray. A base that you use in every stage of growth, the whole shebang. I ran a full round with nothing but the base product and was deeply satisfied with the results so when they say it’s complete, they mean it. The base formula can be purchased in a hard and soft water formula to suite the mixture as well as a hydroponic or “dirty” formula, depending on what medium you choose. The bloom booster is called Shine. While using it isn’t imperative to a successful grow, when used during the bloom phase it adds an unmistakable improved layer of frost to your flowers and plumps up yields by double digit percentages; given the simplicity and low cost of their base, I recommend investing some of your savings into Shine, the products kills. Veg+Bloom makes two other products. A foliar spray called Push, which I didn’t use but have heard reports from respected farmers that I should have. My foliar testing was not in a place that provided a space for a new formula at the time that I was running Veg+Bloom. I have since started using it, and while I haven’t completed the test, I can tell you that it appears to be replacing several other products thus far. Lastly, they make a mycorrhizae product called Life, which is designed to run in salt-based nutrient environments and is very effective when using container medium. Again, I cannot speak with a high degree of intelligence of the efficacy of the product having skipped its application, however, I can’t imag-
ine a company that produces so few products, three of which are of the highest performance standards I’ve come across that don’t follow suit with the fourth one. A consistent feature you’ll see with all four of these companies is extensive customer research. Lots of Cannabis farmers have used and reported achieving outstanding results using these nutrient lines. Their strong product support and priority to create a quality product, instead of funding a massive advertising budgets, allows for a higher quality, more consistent, more dependable, more affordable nutrient that supports like-minded human beings. High standards create high hopes for a new age, ushered in by innovators such as those reviewed in this article. Keeping the needs of the users in mind instead of the need of the shareholders provides for an easier to use, more effective product for Cannabis gardeners. As with any new product, I always recommend testing a small number of plants with any new technique or tip to learn how the information fits into your skill set, style and environment; these products are worth the investment to learn. They may suit your particulars to an even higher degree and elevate your game to the next level, or they could maintain your already stellar results but drop your total production costs, both favorable outcomes. Either way, you’ll likely walk away a better gardener from trying them out. If you have specific questions on nutrient applications with these products, don’t hesitate to contact me at DrScanderson@protonmail. com and as always, HAPPY GARDENING!

The familiar and riveting scents of piney Kush with notes of cedar and a deep lemon reach into the mouth, jerking fiercely as a thick rush of potent smoke escapes through the throat. and is a lighter feeder in veg you can expect extreme aversion to change in environment. Early, steady low stress training will assist in creating a structure from which one can form a somewhat feasible indoor plant. Once transitioned to bloom, she can stretch 300 percent or more growing largely spaced internodes that need all but constant training to structure any sort of a productive canopy. She likes nitrogen and calcium through weeks two and three of flower but still is sensitive to high-nutrient concentrations thriving with lower levels. Within about 70 days she will produce medium sized spear shaped nuggets, comprised of tightly stacked calyxs deeply encrusted with resin. This plant prioritizes resin production, smell, taste and potency over structure and yield and with its unruly, often precarious growth pattern and nutrient sensitivities make her suited best for intermediate and advanced gardeners.
