Seven years in print, and we couldn’t have done it without you! e a c h m o n t h I f e e l more and more blessed to have the
opportunity to share these magazines with our readers across three states. I started the Leaf as a project to propel me into law school, but it has transformed into a career and a lifestyle that has brought me intense joy and pride in the plant, and in the magazine’s ability to connect to people and change perceptions about a plant we all think we know. O u r f i r s t i s s u e was a 16-page newsprint production of 10,000
copies, and we haven’t slowed down since. Literally and figuratively, because producing these magazines takes a ton of work! I am extremely grateful to the team, especially Daniel Berman, who has been taking our beautiful photos and laying out the magazine for all these years. The team behind the Leaf works really hard to put together all this beautiful content with a strong, independent message, and I am humbled and amazed each month by what we get to publish! T o d a y ’ s p o t i n d u s t r y is a lot different than it was two years ago, let alone where my journey with it began in 2010.
The regulations, growth and volatility of legal pot have brought tremendous change to the weed world, but the Leaf has been able to carry on through the changes, documenting and sharing a view from the inside of the best our industry has to offer. After all these years I am just as excited for the future as I was in 2010, and confident that national and global change is coming that will benefit humanity when it comes to Cannabis and Hemp. The plant provides food, fuel, medicine and recreation and I feel good knowing that the world is becoming a better place, at least in that one area. As always, thanks for reading the Leaf, and helping support our vision of a free publication that serves the industry, patients, connoisseurs and new users alike with truth, great pot reviews and interesting stories. ~Wes Abney

Medical Marijuana Could Take a Bite Out Of Pharmaceutical Sales Medical marijuana could take a significant bite out of the pharmaceutical industry if adopted in all 50 states, according to a new study. Willie Nelson To jeff sessions:
Smoke Some Weed Pot-hating Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently said marijuana is only “slightly less awful” that heroin. Music legend Willie Nelson has responded by saying that Jeff Sessions needs to smoke some weed. “I wonder if he’s tried both of them,” Nelson, said to Rolling Stone. “I don’t think you can really make a statement like that unless you tried it all. So I’d like to suggest to Jeff to try it and then let me know later if he thinks he’s still telling the truth!” Nelson markets his own brand of marijuana, Willie’s Reserve, in legal states. He often speaks glowingly of his personal experiences with weed. Willie was asked if there’s any downside to smoking pot. “I haven’t run into any yet,” he said. “I guess if you go somewhere where it’s illegal, that’s a pretty good downside.” Nelson has been busted several times for weed. Nelson’s 61st album, God’s Problem Child, was released last month. It features the song “Still Not Dead,” which humorously addresses the numerous “Willie’s gone” rumors which have swept across social media lately.

Jared is a renowned Cannabis advocate who has given away thousands of “Marijuana is Safer than Alcohol” shirts to people from all over the world, spreading the message that he lives by. A longtime medical Cannabis advocate, Jared has worked in several medical collectives and today is a budtender at one of the busiest pot stores in Seattle, Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop, where he blends his mix of knowledge and humor to help connect consumers to the best pot for their personal needs.

‘‘
WHEN DID YOU FIRST EXPERIENCE CANNABIS? It was a long time ago, I was in middle school, and the first time I tried it I didn’t really feel anything. But by the second or third time I felt it, like travelling to another world inside my mind, it felt really good, happy, I laughed at everything. In 2013 I really realized that I was using Cannabis medicinally, and while Washington State has never recognized ADHD or anxiety for Cannabis, they did recently add PTSD which applies for me, and I do have my current medical card for chronic pain.
I LIKE TO PUT ALL MADE YOU WANT TO START YOUR THE OPTIONS OUT WHAT SAFER SHIRTS CAMPAIGN, PUSHING THE MESSAGE AND TALK PRICE, MARIJUANA IS SAFER THAN ALCOHOL? LABORATORY REPORT, THE IMPORTANCE OF ALL CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES, AND PEOPLE MAKE THEIR DECISION. 18/june 2017 FACEBOOK.COM/NWLEAF
I made my first shirt at the end of 2010, I think the best part about it is because a lot of people are afraid to be an activist or don’t realize that activism is important, on the rare occasion that someone does it’s a little reward. When people get the shirt, they wear it around town because they think it makes them look cool, when in actuality they are being an activist. The message is simple, it’s quick, it’s true and it’s a way of coming out of the Cannabis closet without having to be a Cannabis consumer. You don’t have to consume to be a legalization activist. If everyone see’s the message it changes public perception, and law is supposed to follow public perception, and hopefully through that influence we can make changes to our laws.
WHAT YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO CONSUME CANNABIS AND DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE STRAINS? I really like Jack’s Girl by Spectrum, the old Team Plum from medical days, all their strains are great. Jack Herer preferred indica and Jack’s Girl is a nice indica, lab report says 23 percent THC and it has some CBG. I prefer bong hits! I like the folks at Artizen, they rock Safer shirts at their grow, I also always enjoy Solstice. I like the FECO from Ethos and Craft Elixirs and others.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BUDTENDING? Being able to educate people as much as I can. Washington law prohibits recreational budtenders from talking about medicinal properties, so we get creative and talk about relaxation and stimulate creativity and different things that people can interpret. My coworkers grab me when there are particularly hard questions, and a lot of people have questions and a lot comes back to the law, and I try to educate people as much as possible.
HOW DO YOU TRY AND HELP CUSTOMERS FIND THE RIGHT PRODUCTS AS A BUDTENDER? I’ve served 170 people in an eight-hour period and it can feel rushed. Sometimes people have some good questions and they want to have an important conversation and some customers want to go fast. I like to put all the options out and talk price, laboratory report, the importance of all Cannabinoids and terpenes, and people make their decision. I really enjoy connecting people with the Cannabis they’re looking for.

“I was on Trileptal and if I wasn’t insured, it would cost me over $300 a bottle,” Carlson said. Once she began using the medication regularly, the seizures eventually subsided. Carlson naturally tapered off her meds once her health stabilized. After finding out she was pregnant in 2008, with her doctor’s approval, she successfully weaned herself off of all prescribed anticonvulsants. “I was seizure-free from 2008 all the way until last summer. I lost the job that brought me to Portland, my lease was up on my apartment and we didn’t know where we were going to go. All of the stress added up so quickly, I experienced a seizure July 8, 2016. I am a roving Veterinarian and I had a seizure during a house call. Unfortunately, I did not stay there to call my husband or an ambulance. I experienced my second seizure while driving on Highway 26 trying to get to the hospital. I am lucky to be alive,” Carlson said. Three days after the episode, she applied for her OMMP card. Carlson knew from the get-go she didn’t want to go back on harsh anticonvulsants again. As of last fall, Carlson started using highCBD strains of Cannabis to keep stress levels low and her chances of going into a seizure minimal. “I have a huge emphasis on CBD. I use CBD in all forms, edible, flower, concentrate, topical, when I feel a seizure coming on. I try to intake as much CBD as possible to stabilize myself. I loved using the CBD patches, back when dispensaries carried them. I have trouble with the sleep-wake transition, and the patch stabilizes me into my morning routine,” Carlson said. Carlson believes she’s had the best success as a medical patient in Oregon because everything was regulated and organized through the state. Test labs existed and you actually knew what you were smoking – which is important as a patient treating specific medical conditions such as PNES. “I am less successful at treating myself without a medical card. It’s more like ‘flowers for fun’ back when all you had was the unregulated market,” Carlson said. “I can maintain my quality of life with Cannabis. I can’t do that on pills. No matter what kind of health issues you are dealing with, when it comes to treatment options, you want something that works really well and doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day life. I found that with Cannabis. I have been seizure-free since my incident last summer, Carlson said beaming with pride. It was awe-inspiring to hear Carlson’s story of healing and perseverance through Cannabis. Thank you for sharing your story with our readers!

NELSON SAID THAT PROPAGANDA PREVENTED HIM FROM CONSUMING THE PLANT IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS
24/june 2017 FACEBOOK.COM/NWLEAF
bly already know he’s a Cannabis advocate and consumer. There’s also no denying that Willie Nelson is a musical genius. He started writing songs in his hometown of Abbott, Texas at age 7 – and joined his first band at 10 years old. Throughout his career, he’s won almost every accolade imaginable – from Grammy awards to Kennedy Center honors. He’s a revolutionary country artist that helped define and create the outlaw sounds of the 1960s and 1970s and straddled multiple genres from jazz to classical music. Strangely enough, Nelson was a bit of a late-comer to Cannabis. In his recent memoir “It’s a Long Story,” Nelson said that propaganda prevented him from consuming the plant in his younger years. “I was a hick from Abbott. I’d seen ‘Reefer Madness,’ and I was a little worried that a little pot might get me crazy. Wasn’t I crazy enough?” It wasn’t until the early 70s when Nelson was in his late thirties that he started to embrace the “hippy lifestyle” and smoke with more frequency. While Cannabis didn’t change his sound all that much, it changed his attitude, and his audience significantly. “I liked that [the kids] had courage to look and act any damn way they pleased,” he writes. “The new world represented by the Grateful Dead or the Jefferson Airplane was new only in appearance. [It] appealed to me because it was bold and creative and said to the world, ‘To hell with what you think. I’ll dress any way I please.’ ” These new revelations led to Nelson’s most critically-acclaimed and popular period of his career. In 1975, he recorded his seminal “Red Headed Stranger” which would set the stage for his most successful recordings and stage appearances to come. Always one to speak his mind, Willie Nelson never shied away from the spotlight: “My love affair with pot became a long-term marriage,” he writes. “It was, by far, the smoothest of all my marriages. As I moved closer to the Woodstock Nation, as I bore witness to their music-loving, life-loving, peace-loving ways, I saw the key role played by pot. Pot was a communal experience,” he writes. “Weed calmed me. Liquor made me reckless. Weed made me careful.” From smoking on top of the White House roof during the Carter administration, to sharing a joint with Snoop Dogg, Toby Keith or Dave Matthews or acting in “Half Baked” smoking a joint with Dave Chappelle – Willie Nelson has become one of the most high-profile Cannabis advocates in popular culture today.

GLASS ART
PHOTOS by DANIEL BERMAN @BERMANPHOTOS
I am still trying to sort my thoughts on this weekend... After attending a bunch for events over the last 7 years we wanted to do one where everyone involved felt good when they left. From our artist participants to our generous ticket buyers. From the staff who all killed it to the folks who trusted us with their one of a kind property.... I think we did it. I won’t tag anyone because there is no way I could tag everyone who helped make it the gathering it was. I will say that I truly appreciate you all. I got so many REAL heart to heart hugs that I will never forget... In the end we hosted 200+ people from around the nation. We shared meals, we shared cabins. We shared a little pain when our new friends car shattered on the floor. We all shared in the joy after he worked all night long to build an all new car before the race. On Saturday night we dusted off track and ran the cars for the glory. Kenny Hashmouf and previous champ Badger Glass squared up for the final run of the day. With a 3 second run. Kenny took the win over some of the biggest names in the glass game. He was my pick from the the start... After the races we all bellied up for a hot lasagna dinner and the auction. In 2 hours we raised nearly $22k for the kids camp and our partners at the Evergreen State Project. It would have been worth all the hard work if we only got to enjoy each other... Walking away with the large donations is just icing on the cake. I can’t thank all 200+ of you enough for the joy I felt at the end of the night. You all gave me something I can’t buy. The pride I have for our community has filled my heart.

We definitely liked seeing CBD tincture for only $33 per bottle, NWCS 100mg capsule packs for $25, and 250mg CBD relief tincture from Ethos. Prices are fair, there’s a solid choice of truly good brands, and you won’t be disappointed by the edibles lineup here.
with again solid pricing and options for all needs. The first thing we noticed was RSO/Full Extract Cannabis Oil, a highly medicinal product, starting at $30 a gram. For dabbers, BHO grams start at just $20, though we recommend looking at the $30 and up shelf. We saw a lot of cartridges, distillate, keif, CO2 and Cannabis caviars, all rounding out a quality selection with a ton of great brands and strains to sample.

STRAIN OF THE MONTH By WES ABNEY | PHOTOS by @BERMANPHOTOS
E
xplore the universe and the healing effects of CBD with our strain of the month from the Star Leaf movie franchise! Star Leaf is a Cannabis culture cult classic filmed in the Pacific Northwest that blends a fun mix of science fiction, humor and some real truth about Cannabis as medicine. In the movie, a group of friends seek out an extraterrestrial strain of Cannabis called Star Leaf that has spiritual, magical and medicinal qualities. The movie is a ton of fun and filled with good education and a solid message of Cannabis as medicine, and the perfect amount of laughs. While the characters in the movie did make contact with the Star Leaf, our experience with the CB Damsel was a little more grounded. The brand is focusing on finding Cannabis that delivers in looks, flavor and medicinal effects, and we found all three with this strain. The buds are tight and dense, coated in a light stickiness and a light frosty layer of trichomes. Packing these tasty nuggets into a bowl delivers a sweet and mellow smoke that has almost no cough and a pleasant sweet exhale. The sweet smoke leads with a note of citrus and lime, with an earthy-skunkiness that rounds out the finish. The effects are mellow but uplifting, with a warmth that spreads out from the lungs and eases through the body in waves of relaxation. For those looking for a low-psychoactive strain this CB Damsel is perfect, leaving the mind clear and washing away stress and anxiety while delivering therapeutic effects for pain, inflammation and a host of other benefits. CBD is known for helping treat dozens of different ailments and this flower is a perfect way to get beneficial Cannabinoids into the body, with a sweet smoke that makes this strain a standout.

NORTHWEST Leaf
PHOTOS by DANIEL BERMAN @BERMANPHOTOS | STYLING by MALINA LOPEZ
S
ince starting Northwest Leaf in 2010, both my life and the magazine have gone on a tremendous journey documenting the growing Cannabis industry in all its various forms. I can truly say that I feel extremely blessed for the opportunity, and could not have done so without the support of our readers and advertisers. The readers of the Leaf are what have always driven me to push harder and continue to create unique and interesting content. Years ago, one of my favorite things to do was sit incognito in dispensaries and watch patients read the magazine, to see what pages they liked, and how they interacted with our content. I meet people weekly to this day from all walks of life who come forward to tell me that they have been reading the magazine for years, that it is meant something in their lives, and that the information has been beneficial to their understanding of Cannabis. Knowledge is power, and the best way we have to gain that power is through the sharing of good information. The Cannabis industry is set to be one of the most valuable on the planet, with a potential market value of hundreds of billions of dollars annually. This makes Interviewing Tommy Chong in 2015 real information all the more valuable, and that is what we want to deliver with the Leaf. It’s why we don’t sell our content or do advertorial “pay for play” stories, and why I personally approve the content that ends up in the magazine. For me, it’s simple. If it isn’t quality, and it isn’t real, we won’t cover it. The Leaf magazines are all 100 percent advertising supported, with nearly 3,000,000 copies printed since 2010. This entire process is dependent on our advertisers and supporters, and this is something that I definitely want to emphasize. When companies choose to market their products, services or dispensary in the Leaf, they are supporting our cause of independent Cannabis journalism as well as getting a great value for their brand and marketing, and this partnership is what has allowed the magazine to be so successful. It’s incredible to know that we are beloved and supported for our message as much as our reach and readership. Over the last several years we have seen the pot industry shift away from medical toward recreational Cannabis, and Washington specifically has left patients behind in a twisted system that is driven only by tax revenue. We must not forget the sick and dying who use this plant as a medicine, to heal, and that is what brought the industry forward enough to create legalization in the first place. We must honor our heritage and the true purpose of the plant, which is to heal and provide relief, and pleasure, and it should be a simple freedom that we all enjoy. After seven years it might be surprising to some that I feel like things are only just beginning for the Leaf, and the pot industry and our nation as a whole. The majority of Americans can still go to jail for possessing a plant, and until that changes our mission remains fundamental. We want to educate people about the plant, enlighten them to the myriad medicinal benefits, and preach the simple truth that Marijuana is Safer than Alcohol. This should be our goal as a community, not just us here at the magazine. Because each time you educate or share truth about the plant, the impact of those words resonates throughout our society. So as always, thanks for reading the Leaf, for sharing it with friends and family, coworkers and those needing enlightenment. It has been my pleasure and honor to share the magazines with you, and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

CANNA CBD Processed by rogue raven farms
A
beautiful amber color, with a texture that is somewhere
between snap and pull and a sappy shatter, this fire concentrate is oozing with terps begging to be globbed. Peeling back the parchment unveils a heady wave of rich lemon and citrus that tingles the nose and frontal lobes, with background notes of fuel and Kush teasing at the high that is sure to come. Dutch Hustle is the premium line of concentrates from the team at Rogue Raven, led by Master Extractor Johannes Mak, who has taken the passion and science of concentrates to a special level. Twirling a dab onto a tool is an easy process, with the sappy texture sticking easily while making dosing a dab perfect. Dropping a medium sized dab onto a low temp quartz nail has a nice, even melt, and when the banger drops, a cloud of sweet citrus vapor bursts forward into the lungs. The vapor is mellow and extremely light on the lungs — a kiss of Cannabinoids carrying a sweet cherry flavor that only shows up on combustion, and lingers on the palate long after exhale. The effects of this CBD sap are very calming and mellow, with a gentle euphoria that is more of a mood elevator CBD than an upper that settles in the mind like a comfortable old friend. There are definite sativa effects, but they are muted and balanced in a way that isn’t overwhelming. oil works for morning, day or night, delivering the THC This benefits of CBD in a super tasty THE SCORE 99ppm form that is a true treat to dab. residual solvency tas t e This BHO is a perfect example val u e of the quality that goes into his process, and we recommend trying this and the other ef f ect l ab el shatters, waxes and oils from this talented extractor and the team at Rogue Raven. t otal 19/20

THE SCRATCH & SNIFF of BOOK WEED By SETH MATLINS & EVE EPSTEIN, 2017, 278 PAGES, $19.95
I
t’s been said that you need to have a gimmick to move product. If that’s really the case, then the authors of this book are sitting pretty. I’ve read a lot of books about Cannabis, but this is the first “scratch and sniff ” one I’ve ever seen. It’s a great concept. The execution, however, proves to be a little tricky. Those beautifully delicate terpenes that we all love so much, which provide so much of the pleasure of a Cannabis high, are extraordinarily difficult to reproduce. That’s probably why, on a chart of 12 marijuana strains, only three have actual scratch-and-sniff panels. For the curious, the three scratch-and-sniff strains are Sour Diesel (not even close), OG Kush (a little better), and Blueberry Kush (closest of the three to the actual weed terpenes). We are presumably left to wonder about the scent of other strains represented on the chart, including such chart-toppers as Green Crack, GS Cookies, Bubba Kush,

The impact of that knowledge has made the plethora of “all organic” nutrient lines all but obsolete. Another new brand out of California, Greenstone Nutrient provides a bit Newer nutrient formulas seemed to have responded to the trend more of the “traditional” approach to nutrient formulation. and began more specifically producing formulas for hydroponic, Greenstone still adds simplicity to the ethos and openly makes mineral based feeding systems instead of an “all in one, feeds any recommendations to omit certain formulas based on the memedium” marketing. effective system and a wonderful alternative to anyone familiar with General Hydroponics’ two-part formula now that GH is owned by the demon of all human existence, Monsanto. Of particular note are two powders Greenstone makes: Foundation, a well-designed endomycorrhizae product devoid of any ecto which cannot colonize Cannabis roots in a mineral-dense environment as well as Aquafish, powder hydrolyzed fish which is loaded with nitrogen and greens up a plant like almost no other product I’ve used, equaled perhaps only by nitrozyme.
Culture Solutions H20 cch2o.com/cultured-solutions-info
Brought to you by the industry leaders in RDWC systems Cultured Solution runs especially well in RDWC due to its ultra clean, low to no suspension formulas. These features carry over well into other hydroponic mediums. Super simple, Cultured Solutions created a complete A+B Veg as well as an A+B Bloom formula that needs little else. Using nothing but “A” and “B”, depending on vegetative stage or bloom stage and you’ll get great results. The root product is designed specifically for RDWC sterile systems and should only be applied to sterile feeding environments. Since properly balanced microbiologicals are more effective than sterile mediums in just about every other medium scenario, many gardeners will not need to use this product. For those looking to push production further, Cultured Solutions makes a flower boosting formula as well. As someone who tested one of their earlier released nutrient lines, I can tell you from personal experience they listened to feedback from their customers, made adjustment and I’m happy to report, improved their bloom booster formula. In this case, they broke the formula up to account for their already very complete “A” and “B” base bloom as well and the manufacturer’s recommendations for nitrogen application through the flowering schedule. Again, all formulas are concentrated, designed with the hydroponic gardener in mind and run super clean.
Veg+Bloom hydroponic-research.com
Grab your socks and pull. I have found my allaround recommendation for hydroponic gardeners of any medium and any skill level. Read the website name and it’s not hard to figure out what this company is about. It’s about creating the easiest to use formula ever created for Cannabis farmers that
performs outrageously well. You can hear the other nutrient companies just shitting their pants with the advent of a formula like Veg+Bloom. Not only is this nutrient powerful and effective at creating high yields of boutique quality Cannabis but it is inexpensive when compared to any of the other more heavily marketed nutrients available. As a powder, you don’t pay anyone for water and mixing labor, they keep the costs down by providing their formula as a dry powder only. Further, this company saw a need to fill, and stepped up by creating a specific formula of even higher concentration made for those using automated nutrient dosing technology. Their schedule and application recommendations are easy enough to memorize. They offer three products you can apply to medium and a foliar spray. A base that you use in every stage of growth, the whole shebang. I ran a full round with nothing but the base product and was deeply satisfied with the results so when they say it’s complete, they mean it. The base formula can be purchased in a hard and soft water formula to suite the mixture as well as a hydroponic or “dirty” formula, depending on what medium you choose. The bloom booster is called Shine. While using it isn’t imperative to a successful grow, when used during the bloom phase it adds an unmistakable improved layer of frost to your flowers and plumps up yields by double digit percentages; given the simplicity and low cost of their base, I recommend investing some of your savings into Shine, the products kills. Veg+Bloom makes two other products. A foliar spray called Push, which I didn’t use but have heard reports from respected farmers that I should have. My foliar testing was not in a place that provided a space for a new formula at the time that I was running Veg+Bloom. I have since started using it, and while I haven’t completed the test, I can tell you that it appears to be replacing several other products thus far. Lastly, they make a mycorrhizae product called Life, which is designed to run in salt-based nutrient environments and is very effective when using container medium. Again, I cannot speak with a high degree of intelligence of the efficacy of the product having skipped its application, however, I can’t imag-
ine a company that produces so few products, three of which are of the highest performance standards I’ve come across that don’t follow suit with the fourth one. A consistent feature you’ll see with all four of these companies is extensive customer research. Lots of Cannabis farmers have used and reported achieving outstanding results using these nutrient lines. Their strong product support and priority to create a quality product, instead of funding a massive advertising budgets, allows for a higher quality, more consistent, more dependable, more affordable nutrient that supports like-minded human beings. High standards create high hopes for a new age, ushered in by innovators such as those reviewed in this article. Keeping the needs of the users in mind instead of the need of the shareholders provides for an easier to use, more effective product for Cannabis gardeners. As with any new product, I always recommend testing a small number of plants with any new technique or tip to learn how the information fits into your skill set, style and environment; these products are worth the investment to learn. They may suit your particulars to an even higher degree and elevate your game to the next level, or they could maintain your already stellar results but drop your total production costs, both favorable outcomes. Either way, you’ll likely walk away a better gardener from trying them out. If you have specific questions on nutrient applications with these products, don’t hesitate to contact me at DrScanderson@protonmail. com and as always, HAPPY GARDENING!

WHY ATTEND RADEXPO? Most retail and dispensary owners don’t bother attending today’s cannabis trade shows for a variety of reasons: Admission prices are too high; many vendors are targeting cultivators; the public are allowed in; they lack focus; the same speakers talk about the same tired subjects at every event, etc.
RAD Expo is different. • RAD Expo is a business-only event that is 100% focused on the retail side of the industry.
• Attendance is free for licensed retail stores and dispensaries, as well as qualified applicants in states not yet issuing licenses. • All exhibitors will have products and services aimed at making retailers more profitable.
• Our speakers will have serious retail and marketing experience.
• It’s a national show featuring businesses from all over the U.S.
• Portland, Oregon sits squarely in the middle of the biggest legal marijuana market in the world. (60 million people in California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.)

nome Grown Organics is a beyond organic OLCC licensed farm located in beautiful Canby, 0regon. When I say beyond organic, I mean it lightly and heavily. Lightly in the sense that, no Cannabis crop yet can be considered officially “organic” as it remains a Schedule I drug under federal regulations, and heavily in the sense that this farm’s regenerative farming techniques coupled with their plant and fruit ferment feedings, produce a product that far surpasses the “organic” standards set by the USDA. The Gnome Grown team utilizes a state of the art Gro Tech Systems light deprivation greenhouse that is automated to the plant’s every need. Once enough sunlight fills the canopy, the lights automatically switch off to reduce energy consumption, and give the plant the natural sunlight that it loves. Beneath the thinned canopy lies multiple layers of active, live soil, that contain nutrients, inoculates, beneficial fungi, predatory mites and cover crop that are essential to creating a biodynamic soil system. When the Leaf team visited, the Gnome crew had just thinned the ladies that were entering week three of flower. The regenerative soil system allows for the stripped leaves to be left on top so they can decompose in the coming weeks and become a vital part of the soils nutrient inputs. Gnome Grown utilizes an IPM program using beneficial bugs and bacteria to keep unwanted pests at bay. Predatory mites are constantly on the prowl throughout the greenhouse thanks to the regenerative soil that allows for their existence. Each plant is hung to dry in a humidor room for multiple weeks before they are placed in the curing room. Gnome Grown Organics flower is available at various OLCC retail locations around the state as the team gets ready to open two dispensaries in Oregon City this June.

tightly organized calyxs, exploding from a center of what appears to be an opaque white fuzz. The overall color appears bright green and blonde with welcomed breaks of deep orange crevices on a consequence of the vast array of trichome heads. As stacked as each flower is, it breaks apart perfectly sending out a potent rush of deep Kush and acrid lemon Pine-Sol cleaner. The familiar and riveting scents of piney Kush with notes of cedar and a deep lemon reach into the mouth, jerking fiercely as a thick rush of potent smoke escapes through the throat. My chest cavity explodes and a bucket of Murphy’s Oil spills out of my mouth as I exhale immediately complimented by a devastating head rush.
HOW IT GROWS A bit of a slow starter
and is a lighter feeder in veg you can expect extreme aversion to change in environment. Early, steady low stress training will assist in creating a structure from which one can form a somewhat feasible indoor plant. Once transitioned to bloom, she can stretch 300 percent or more growing largely spaced internodes that need all but constant training to structure any sort of a productive canopy. She likes nitrogen and calcium through weeks two and three of flower but still is sensitive to high-nutrient concentrations thriving with lower levels. Within about 70 days she will produce medium sized spear shaped nuggets, comprised of tightly stacked calyxs deeply encrusted with resin. This plant prioritizes resin production, smell, taste and potency over structure and yield and with its unruly, often precarious growth pattern and nutrient sensitivities make her suited best for intermediate and advanced gardeners.
