one simple reason: I love dabs! My first dab was around 2011 - in the century old boiler room below the now closed Northern Cross Collective Gardens in Washington state - and I remember feeling the oil touch the red hot 11 nail as the vapor burst into my lungs with the force of a thousand bong hits. The world closed in around me, and I felt the reverberation of raw THC as it pulsed in my blood and mind, sending me away for the CONCENTRATES next few hours - humming with a high that was HAVE THE ABILITY unlike anything else. COLORADO EXCEEDS $1 BILLION IN CANNABIS REVENUE SINCE 2014 The Mile High State has earned more than a billion dollars in Cannabis revenue since legalizing recreational marijuana sales in 2014, the state’s Department of Revenue announced in June. MARYLAND EXTENDS CANNABIS BUSINESS APPLICATION PERIOD AS ERRORS MAR DIVERSIFICATION PROCESS A series of technical errors has forced the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission to give companies 14 additional days to apply one of the state’s 14 new licenses to grow and process marijuana, state regulators announced on June 10. The commission had more than 160 applications by the previous deadline on May 24. Applications came from firms seeking a license in a second round aimed at increasing the participation of minority and women owned businesses. Maryland is issuing four new growing licenses, and 10 new licenses for processing the plant into medical products. Companies were given until June 24 to submit new applications “following a series of technical issues that presented obstacles to a significant number of those attempting to submit applications electronically by the May 24 deadline,” the commission announced.

Planet 13, which has attracted international attention since it opened what may be the world’s biggest marijuana store last fall in Las Vegas, has announced a second location which will likely be the largest pot shop in California. The store, in Santa Ana, will open early next year, according to Planet 13. It’s being billed as the “Disneyland of dispensaries” and is opening just six miles from that theme park in an industrial section of the city, which abuts Anaheim. “It’ll have to be different than Vegas, of course,” said co-CEO Larry Scheffler of Planet 13. “But it still has to be a destination, with different effects blended into the fabric of the Southern California lifestyle.” Santa Ana is the only city that permits marijuana shops out of 34 cities in Orange County, according to The Orange County Register. With the city issuing just 30 licenses, there will be a maximum of 30 shops serving a county with more than 3 million residents and more than 50 million visitors each year. “To us, it was like a red flag,” Scheffler said. “This is the place to go.”
according to Gov. Jared Polis. “[The Cannabis] industry is helping grow our economy by creating jobs and generating valuable revenue that is going towards preventing youth consumption, protecting public health and safety, and investing in public school construction,” Polis said. There are currently almost 3,000 licensed Cannabis businesses in Colorado. They’d sold a total of $6.56 billion in weed products since legal sales began in January 2014. Last month, Gov. Polis signed into law a measure allowing marijuana delivery services and social use areas. The weed lounge will be “kind of like cigar lounges, which also help get the smell out of neighborhoods,” the governor wrote on Facebook. “We want Colorado to be the best state for investment, innovation, and development for this growing economic sector,” Polis said.
Medical marijuana regulators in Maryland have expanded testing for heavy metals in Cannabis products, warning patients about the risk for possible lead contamination in popular vape pens. A June 14 advisory came from the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission “to notify patients and other stakeholders of potential lead contamination of Cannabis liquids in vape cartridges following exposure to heat,” reports The Baltimore Sun. The warning comes as the commission enacts new rules requiring heavy metals testing at the stage when products are sold. Cannabis growers in the state have been required to test for metals since the medical program began in 2017. Joy Strand, executive director of the commission, said the new rules were “to correct an oversight of the original regulations.” Strand cited ‘the interest of public safety” regarding the commission’s requirement for testing to begin immediately on the vape cartridges.

CANNABIS EXPORT BILL 582 PASSES!
Last month, we reported the passage of SB582, Oregon’s Cannabis Export bill, through the Oregon House of Representatives. This month, the bill has passed the remaining two hurdles to becoming law with 19-9-2 passage by the Oregon Senate and a signature by Oregon Governor Kate Brown. Prior to the Senate vote, the final reading came from Rob Nosse, a Republican member of the House of Representatives, who carried a living hemp plant onto the Senate floor with him for the speech. 3 days later, on June 14th, 2019, the bill received signatures from the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate making it signature-ready for Kate Brown to turn into law. With Brown’s signature on June 20, Oregon became poised to begin exporting Cannabis and Cannabis products as soon as another legalized state creates a similar legal precedent and the Federal government indicates that they will not prosecute licensed businesses for conducting interstate commerce.

OREGON’S PREMIER CANNABIS LAW FIRM FACES HEFTY LAWSUIT One of Oregon’s leading Cannabis law firms, Emerge Law Group, is in hot water. That’s according to a lawsuit filed this week in Multnomah County Circuit Court by Tidewater Investments, the parent company of some of the Northwest’s premier Cannabis businesses. The suit seeks $10 million in damages for Emerge law firm’s alleged mistake. Emerge has long marketed itself as a law firm that provides a wide variety of legal services for Cannabis businesses. But the suit alleges when Tidewater went to its longtime attorneys at Emerge to perform the legal work on the sale, Emerge and its lawyers failed to spot a serious and obvious problem. According to Tidewater, Emerge failed to properly review the zoning for the farm. Had the law firm done so, the suit contends, it would have noticed that the farm lay in a specially designated floodway that prevented Tidewater from building any greenhouses to grow indoor Cannabis. After Emerge’s attorneys gave the green light, Tidewater bought the farm. The lawsuit alleges that Emerge didn’t tell its client about its mistake for nearly nine months.

DESCHUTES BREWERY LAUNCHES CANNABIS FOCUSED AD CAMPAIGN Deschutes Brewery, founded in 1988 in Bend, Oregon, has launched a new series of videos for their latest ad campaign targeting Cannabis consumers. This is one of the first times we’ve seen a non-Cannabis company that not only uses the actual word “Cannabis” in their marketing, but openly endorse and play on legal ganja as the premise of their ad. Frankly, we couldn’t be happier for several reasons. First, because they chose not to use the word marijuana, which has negative connotation as a racist term and is rapidly becoming outdated in favor of the word Cannabis. Second, the more mainstream businesses talk about Cannabis in any way other than derogatory, the more approachable this plant becomes to the masses. “This campaign celebrates not only our humor and creativity but our Pacific Northwest roots. It’s a way to reaffirm and honor our heritage and ignite our future in craft beer,” said brewery founder Gary Fish. If you ask us, we think Fish has just earned himself a Stoner Owner spotlight with that cleverly worded remark. Our gut says in the future, Deschutes will produce some of the first widely distributed Cannabis/Beer hybrids Oregon offers up.

HEMP, PESTICIDES AND THE EPA
OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES HEMP RESEARCH CENTER
Hemp growers all over the U.S. are in a predicament because they have received federal approval to cultivate hemp, but don’t have many answers about which EPA registered pesticides are allowed to be used on this crop. State regulators, extension offices and pesticide consultants are waiting patiently for pesticide approvals for hemp. “We’re in a situation where production is already happening,” said Liza Fleeson Trossbach, a Virginia pesticide regulator who spoke at the meeting. “The cart is way ahead of the horse with the Farm Bill and all these other issues coming up. We’ve got a lot of angry people in Virginia right now.” Pesticide manufacturers must submit tests to the EPA showing that residues on this crop are considered safe to be allowed on hemp. The issue is that the EPA does not have data showing what pesticide residue levels are safe on hemp, especially when the product is consumable for humans. Safe levels of pesticide residues will vary based on the end product, whether we’re looking at seed, fiber or CBD extract. CBD extract will concentrate pesticide residues which further limits the allowable pesticides. The EPA is also waiting for other agencies, such as the FDA, as to how they will regulate hemp and CBD. There are only six federally registered pesticide products that list hemp on the label. These products are plant growth regulators and synergists for use on seed or fiber producing hemp. States like Colorado, Oregon and Washington have allowed pesticides on recreational and medical Ccannabis since these types of licenses were legalized. All the allowed products are exempt from residues set by the EPA because the active ingredients are considered minimum risk. States where Ccannabis is legal to produce will be ahead of hemp pesticide regulation. The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is actively updating a list of products allowed on hemp in Washington state. Colorado has also compiled state rules for Ccannabis and pesticides. The best practice for hemp producers is to consult with state extension offices and the Department of Agriculture within their state to determine which products will be allowed on hemp.
JUL. 2019
Oregon State University representatives announced plans to launch a hemp research center for the study of hemp and certification of hemp seeds for planting in Oregon. The Global Hemp Innovation Center will be based in Corvallis, Oregon and will connect faculty and researchers with the hemp industry. According to the Brightfield Group, an analytics firm that tracks the Ccannabis industry, the hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) market is expected to grow from $618 million in 2018 to $22 billion by 2022. With growth of that size comes the need for thorough agronomic studies of hemp. The seed certification services for hemp will be available for registered hemp farmers in Oregon. Researchers have planted hemp in 10 university stations located in different climates and soil conditions throughout Oregon. Eight research plots of hemp totaling roughly five acres will be planted at each experiment station. Hemp material will be harvested as the plants are flowering, and will be provided to OSU researchers for study. No pollen or seeds will be produced from this year’s research crop. They want to understand how to efficiently and sustainably grow hemp for seed, fiber for textiles, and hemp compounds for neutraceuticals. The Pacific Northwest, and OSU have a long history of hemp cultivation and research. The university, then known as Oregon Agricultural College, partnered with scientists in the U.S. Department of Agriculture to host a national hemp research center from the 1880s until 1932. Oregon State University has made an excellent move forward to progress hemp research.
LEGALIZATION
THE USDA WEIGHS IN ON HEMP LEGALIZATION The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently issued legal opinions regarding the interstate transportation of hemp. This announcement from the federal government indicates that restrictions may be relaxed regarding hemp and hemp derived products, as the passage of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 - better known as the Farm Bill - removed nonnarcotic hemp from the federal list of Schedule I illegal drugs and allows for interstate transport of hemp. Even with the passage of the Farm Bill, some state authorities have confiscated shipments of hemp traveling through their states. The confiscated shipments have resulted in cases that have gone to court in Idaho and West Virginia. The rulings have been inconsistent about the legality of hemp transport. The USDA sided with the West Virginia court and concluded that states cannot stop the shipment of hemp when the product is produced lawfully. The USDA also issued a legal opinion that American Indian tribes and U.S. states can regulate the production and sale of hemp, including implementing regulations that are stricter than federal law, but cannot prohibit interstate transportation or shipment of hemp authorized by the USDA program. Disputes between federal and state laws regarding the legality of Cannabis and CBD still exists, and the actions of the USDA to take steps to clarify laws and resolve conflict are a good step forward. This FDA opinion will be useful as hemp is transported nationally across borders.

SUPPLY& DEMAND IN OREGON’S
LEGAL CANNABIS MARKET Matthew Meyers is a longtime Cannabis community member and Oregon Leaf contributor, hailing from Hood River.

LAST MONTH I wrote about SB582, a bill that had just successfully passed the Oregon Senate, which would position Oregon to be the first state to be fully ready for interstate commerce of Cannabis. This comes with some conditions, including federal authority needing to be granted and the other state - which must border Oregon - also creating and agreeing to legal context and structure for the interstate commerce. Any commerce would of course be tracked via Cannabis Tracking System, just like all deliveries inside the state are currently being traced! This bill has recently passed through the Oregon House of Representatives and now sits on Governor Kate Brown’s desk awaiting final approval before becoming Oregon law. This news comes at an interesting time in the industry. Last month I suggested that the surplus of Cannabis in Oregon might not be as big as some reports have claimed. What we are witnessing for the moment appears to be a shortage of affordable flower on both legal and free markets. This is due to a combination of factors, but mostly the fact that the median gram price in Oregon has halved from ~$10 in 2017 to ~$5 in 2018. Of course, light deprivation harvests will start to come in soon to meet the demand, followed by full season outdoor harvests later in the fall. I’m not necessarily saying we have a crisis of supply, but I think supply and demand might be more even than some past reports have made the situation out to be. That being said, I highly recommend taking the time to read through the 41-page report from the OLCC presented to the Oregon legislature early this year. If you search for “recreational marijuana supply and demand 2019 OLCC” you should find the official document posted on www. Oregon.gov.
JUL. 2019
WHAT WE ARE WITNESSING FOR THE MOMENT APPEARS TO BE A SHORTAGE OF AFFORDABLE FLOWER ON BOTH LEGAL AND FREE MARKETS. There is an amazing wealth of knowledge in the report that’s too vast to recount here! One thing to note about to the OLCC report is that it’s based on the raw numbers from Metrc, which could potentially include portions of harvest that are either too old to be sold or got seeded by hemp pollen contamination. Both are hard to track because they are embarrassing for the producers, which means it likely won’t be reported, at least publically. The goal of the report is to discuss how to find a balance of supply and demand in Oregon’s legal Cannabis market, where adequate diversity of competition still exists to keep prices reasonable - while not choking out smaller producers. Another big piece of news that will effect supply is that Oregon SB218 was signed into law by Gov. Brown, allowing the OLCC to cap licenses allowed in Oregon’s adult use system until 2022 based off supply factors. However, they must still process all the applications they have received before June 15, assuming all appropriate documentation is submitted. This will stop new producers from entering the market, which limits supply while empowering current licensed producers. I am grateful that Oregon consumers, patients, producers, regulators, and legislators are all taking the future of Oregon’s Cannabis industry so seriously. I hope that participation in the debate continues to evolve and expand as the challenges we face grow in scale and complexity. I think we stand to be a leading example for the rest of the country as legalization eventually spreads, and federal prohibition finally evolves into a regulated market. I commend the Oregon House of Representatives for having the foresight to pass SB528 and ensure that whatever happens federally, Oregon is ready to be a progressive leader in developing the future of Cannabis trade.

For a long time Belushi has been an outspoken proponent of Cannabis and its myriad health benefits for humanity. For one, he has gone on the record in many interviews saying that he believes that this herb can truly function as an ‘exit drug’ – that is, that Cannabis has the ability to shift people who are addicted away from more harmful substances. He often references this through the drug overdose death of his brother. believes that John would have benefited from legal Cannabis and its ability to act as a neural protectant. These days, Jim is bringing his talents to the Cannabis scene in Oregon, where he purchased a farm in the southern part of the state along the Rogue River. There, he grows outdoor Cannabis on his 93 acre farm, taking a hands-on approach. Unlike most celebrity canna-brands, Belushi actually gets his hands dirty, taking care to use the proper nutrients, making sure the cure is right, and of course, the terpene profile. Since Belushi has a rich knowledge of music, he’s even curating playlists for his plants that change with each stage of growth. He’s focused on growing what he likes, cultivating an Afghani hybrid called Captain Jack - named for a grower who used to supply Dan Ackroyd and John Be-
lushi with good herb back in their early SNL days. He also grows a terrific variety of Cherry Pie that is widely available in and around Portland dispensaries. Belushi’s brand is called Belushi’s Farm and has been a popular one around the state, impressing many a connoisseurs - this author included. Belushi started smoking Cannabis at an early age in his home state of Indiana. He was even arrested twice for possession when he was young. These days he consumes it in a more responsible manner by microdosing, saying that he vapes a few days a week and uses CBD on a daily basis. As we inch closer and closer to the normalization of Cannabis across the world, celebrities like Jim Belushi are helping speed the process up a bit. We’ll look forward to seeing just where he takes it, but for now, we can all say a big thank you to Jim for his activism and dedication to the cause.

Pure Green stands tall on the “Green Mile” of Sandy Boulevard in East Portland. Perhaps it’s because of this longevity that Pure Green seems to have retained budtenders longer than most shops we’ve had experience with. And, having longer tenured budtenders typically translates into more experience, knowledge and better customer service. These three significant criteria have been evident in each of our experiences with our Budtender of the Month for July, Clara Gillet. KATIE THOMPSON Katie is a local sports writer and budtender at Yesca Cannabis in Beaverton. As an avid Blazers fan, Thompson religiously watches games and provides insightful analysis for her fellow sporting community. As a queer woman, Thompson found power developing a voice in male-dominated spaces like sports and Cannabis. Thompson uses Cannabis to treat depression and chronic back pain, but much like her love of sports, Cannabis has turned from a passion into a healthy lifestyle and huge part of her life.
“Cannabis has always been a stable treatment for me without any drastic side effects.” apR.2019 2019 JUL.
After finishing film school in 2012, Thompson felt her mental health take a rapid decline. The lack of creative outlet left her feeling incomplete and the void got deeper. To make matters worse, during her initial diagnosis, Thompson’s parents were in the throes of divorce - which left her feeling emotionally gutted. “My mood took a drastic turn the summer after I went to film school. Combine that with my parents’ divorce the prior summer, I first sought medical treatment and was given my generalized anxiety diagnosis as well as manic depression. While I have been off and on prescription medication for both of these since 2012, Cannabis has always been a stable treatment for me without any drastic side effects.” Thompson is a born-and-raised Oregonian who grew up on the west side. No stranger to Cannabis, she used the plant recreationally. But once Cannabis was legalized, she started looking into research and investigating Cannabis as a viable treatment option. “September 2017, I officially became an OMMP patient. I was dealing with anxiety and depression primarily, coupled with sporadic migraines and occasionally back pain.” Here, Thompson was dealing with multi-faceted health issues, but the spectrum of Cannabis allowed her to manage her health holistically. “My anxiety used to be so bad that even smelling a sativa would have me pacing the room, but now with more education, I’ve learned what terpenes work best for me no matter if the strain is sativa, indica or hybrid. Caryophyllene and Myrcene are two of my favorites. Caryophyllene brings me up and allows me to remain alert and present while still dulling the depression. Myrcene can sometimes act as a sedative for some, but is the perfect blend for my anxiety without glueing me to a couch.” Education has been a godsend within the Cannabis community. Once Thompson began to understand what WHAT’S strains/terpenes worked for her and why, she was able to WORKED treat herself without issue. FOR HER “I go through phases of which form of Cannabis I use. > CONCENTRATES Right now, I am using concentrates and dabs - mostly > CARYOPHYLLENE because of the lack of quality flower available on the AND MYRCENE market right now. I do prefer the effects of flower more, but it is not always financially feasible to regularly purchase it, while quality concentrates have been affordable recently. I also make homemade capsules with coconut oil — by far my favorite way to ingest Cannabis.” As Thompson navigates through treatment options, she still unfortunately deals with the inconvenient stigma of Cannabis. Although Cannabis is legal in Oregon, employers still screen for Cannabis, which puts the working and middle-class at a major disadvantage - causing people to have to choose between their health and their livelihood. “Prior to working in the industry, drug testing was a huge obstacle and would often force me to prioritize my financial stability over my health. Fortunately, I no longer have to make that difficult decision as a budtender, but that does not take away the millions of people that do - whether it be for drug testing or lack of access in illegal states.” Thompson not only heals with Cannabis use, but also finds solace through writing. While no stranger to adversity, writing is a way to tackle life’s challenges through contemplation, conviction and expression through language. Thompson found her edge within the sports world and continues to grow and strengthen her ideas and opinions one article at a time. “While writing has always been an outlet for me, it was only within the last couple of years with the rise of NBA Twitter and podcasts that I realized I could do it as a career. After a quick search on Craigslist led me to Oregon Sports News, I’ve been writing for them ever since. While sports writing and budtending are quite different, being a minority as a woman and queer is one of the few things they have in common, and in turn prepared me for one another. I hope more women feel encouraged to continue to permeate both industries and representation grows from there.”

HAVE A HEART STRAINS 5/5
Wow, this Salem shop low-key has one of the best selections in the state! Regularly carrying over 50 strain options from heavy hitters like Archive, Flowersmith, Ten Four, Luvli and High Noon Cultivar, we were seriously impressed by both the volume and variety stocked here. There were options for literally every type of consumer - from CBD rich varietals for medically inclined users, to new school exotics for up-to-date connoisseurs, to classic cultivars for your old heads with no interest in deviating from the tried and true. To top it all off, the prices topped out at only $12/gram, with most falling in the $7-$10/gram range.

Hats off to Have a Heart for curating not only amazing flower and oil menus, but an awesome edibles selection as well! We saw some of our favorite companies represented here and prices were extremely approachable, beginning at just $3 for a 5mg chocolate from Wyld. Missing from most stores’ edibles menus are sugar-free and savory options, but Have a Heart carries several options for both.
CONCENTRATES 5/5
Whatever Cannabis concentrate strikes your fancy, Have a Heart Salem probably carries it. Shelves were loaded with options ranging from $20 budget grams of BHO, all the way up to premium grade solventless hash. Like taking your oil to go? No problem there, Have a Heart carries a robust selection of cartridges for all your mobile medication needs. The products were neatly separated by dab versus cartridge and, like all other products displayed on the sales floor, were clearly labeled with prices - making shopping for exactly what you need a breeze.
ENVIRONMENT

All staff is mandated to undergo and complete a two week long training and education course as part of their employment with the company. This is no small requirement, given the utter lack of training and preparation most businesses provide for their employees. The end result is a well-educated and customer service oriented panel of budtenders and managers.
PAUL, TERRARD, BRICESON, MERLIN AND MONICA IN THE SALEM SHOP
QUICK HIT 20/20
Have a Heart’s first expansion into Oregon is a huge win for Salem area Cannabis lovers. While we normally find at least several things we could critique a shop on, Have a Heart absolutely aced every category with which we score retailers. From the approachable and professional exterior, to the new-school yet throwback interior, to the well-educated and friendly budtenders, to the attractively displayed and competitively priced products everything about Have a Heart Salem is a win.

HATER TEARS is the new line of proprietary (we guesstimate CRC filtered) live resin extracts from Dirty Arm Farm. Combining advanced filtration technology with sun-grown organic flowers produces a divinely potent, clean, and flavorful dab. Despite rocking nearly 9% terps, a proper low temp dab didn’t have me coughing one bit - a testament to the cleanliness of the oil. Not only is the oil visually stunning and a fun juxtaposition between the intense aroma and near crystal-clear appearance, the price point is pretty approachable considering other top-shelf quality oils run $60 or more per gram. $45/g, 63.54% THC, 1.3% CBD, 9.24% Terpenes.

One of the best characteristics of the shop is the quality of service and knowledgeable staff. Not only do the budtenders know about every product on the shelf, but they know how to help you find exactly what you’re looking for - without pressuring you into something they are trying to push on you. If you make a stop, ask for Kemper. He’s been budtending with GG for over four years and provides excellent suggestions (his taste is exquisite). This dispensary specializes in delivery without a fee, with a $40 minimum for east Portland and $100 minimum for west Portland. As for the environment, I love that Green Gratitude actually has a parking lot and is completely ADA accessible and OMMP friendly. The shop floor is spacious and easy to navigate, and the walls are decorated by local Portland artists. If you’re a long-time Portlander, you will feel at home in this clean but relaxed space. No pretentious minimalism here.
OVERALL 19/20
If you live in the numbers (if you know, you know), Green Gratitude needs no introduction. But for the rest of you granola Portlanders, and especially OMMP patients, you should take the time to stop by one of my favorite dispensaries on the east side. Green Gratitude is one of the few dispensaries in Oregon locally owned and operated by people of color, in an industry greatly lacking in representation and diversity among business owners. Not only do they serve the fire at reasonable prices, but their customer service and community presence is second to none.

JUL. 2019
@FOCUSNORTHGARDENS
“WITH STICKY FINGERS THAT STRUGGLED TO FLICK A LIGHTER, THE FIRST HIT WAS PU RE CITRUS SUGAR BLISS THAT FELT LIKE A SMOKEY KISS OF HEADY EFFECTS.” BURSTING WITH BRIGHT AND CREAMY ORANGE NOTES THAT INSTANTLY FILL A ROOM WITH DANK VIBES, THIS STRAIN LIVES UP TO ITS NAME WITH A FLAVOR THAT DELIVERS UPFRONT AND LINGERS LONG AFTER A SESH HAS FINISHED. Grown with living organics in Eugene, it’s easy to see why this Now ‘N Later took third place for best indoor (THC category) at this year’s Cultivation Classic. Looking through IG at all the delicious strains Focus North Gardens is growing will produce as much drool as a fat toke of this indica strain. A heavenly cross of Candyland and Blue Power, the Now ‘N Later flowers are coated in trichomes and a greasy, sticky feel that coats the fingers in THC and terps. Dark green and purple, with a fluffy but solidly dense body, these buds beg to be smoked from the moment a jar is popped. The first flavor notes are creamy and bright with orange and pine, hiding sharper underlying earthy-cookies-kush notes that balance the initial sweetness well. Pulling a sticky foxtailed bud apart unleashes a sour citrus gassy funk that sealed the deal for us. With a nuanced and layered flavor profile, we couldn’t wait to burn this organically grown treat. Known for relaxing and euphoric indica effects, we prepared to enter the chill zone with our first rip off a bowl. With sticky fingers that struggled to flick a lighter, the first hit was pure citrus sugar bliss that felt like a smokey kiss of heady effects. The flower burns slowly and evenly, delivering smooth tokes that stack up in the body and mind as effects build. Starting with a relaxing body high, within minutes our thoughts slowed and a sense of contentment and almost stoned distraction took over the mind, while a warm body high delivered a calm vibe. Definitely deserving of the indica classification, the Now ‘N Later keeps delivering on its namesake with a long lasting and tasty high. With beautiful looks, a unique flavor and a clean smoke, this flower is the culmination of the love and organic methods Focus North Gardens uses to produce their top shelf Cannabis. 3.92% TERPENES 25.83% THC / 0.07% CBD BRED BY @EARTHFIREGENETICS (CANDYLAND X BLUE POWER)

CBD CO2 OIL CARTRIDGES BY PEAK EXTRACTS

THE CONCENTRATES ISSUE
DAB
101
ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY IS THAT NEW PRODUCTS AND INNOVATIONS ARE CONSTANTLY EMERGING. The downside of this breakneck pace can be a lack of information, especially for average users. The perfect example of this knowledge delay has to be Cannabis concentrates. While most veteran patients are familiar with the likes of Rick Simpson and high-grade bubble hash, the dabbing era has caught many by surprise. It’s a fad no more. This primer breaks down the many types of concentrates, attributes to look for (and avoid) and common lingo and prices you should expect.
Concentrates are extractions of
Cannabis produced with or without a solvent such as butane, ethanol or CO2. Common examples in Eastern medicine include essential oils. Anyone consuming concentrates for the first time should do so with extreme caution.
Dabbing is the act of vaporizing Canna-
bis concentrate and inhaling the vapor for medicinal or recreational effects. The vapor acts as a quick and easy delivery system for Cannabinoids, and is not meant to be held in for longer than three to five seconds. Dabbing can involve a torch and a vaporization surface, commonly called a nail, attached to a water pipe. The nail is heated until hot before a small amount of concentrate is touched to the surface. Nails can be quartz or titanium, and heated externally or by a plug-in heating element, called an e-nail. The user inhales through a water pipe and the vapor is exhaled without excessive smoke or coughing, assuming a proper dosage. Patients can also use dab pens or vapor cartridges, which allow for vaporizing in a portable manner and don’t rely on having a torch.
Temperature is critical.
Concentrates that are dabbed too hot will burn off the terpenes, leaving a bland taste behind. Concentrates that are dabbed too cool might leave pooled residue and not fully vaporize. The best way to reach a happy medium is to use a carb cap, which sits on top of a nail once a dab is applied and holds heat and vapor in. A carb cap is designed to vaporize an extract at the lowest possible temperature. I find that letting the nail cool down sufficiently and then using the carb cap will produce a flavorful, fully vaporized dab. Solventless extracts such as full melt bubble hash/ice wax should be dabbed at slightly higher temperatures. To determine whether your temp is right, check the color of the residue. If it’s blackish, the dab was taken too hot. If the residue is a light brown, it means the dab was vaporized at the optimal temperature. Experiment again!
THC percentages range from 20 to 90 percent, and can easily overwhelm first-timers or even more experienced users. Start with a grain of rice.

BEEHIVE EXTRACTS FULL-SPECTRUM THC DIAMONDS & TERP SAUCE NUG RUN BHO Upon opening the jar, you are immediately hit with the sweet but pungent aroma of terpinolene found in popular strains like Durban Poison. You will see big diamondlike rocks of THC swimming in the fragrant terpene sauce. If you’re into flavor and potency, Beehive Extracts full spectrum nug run BHO is for you. I love being able to smell the flavor before I dab and Beehive delivers. After heating and properly cooling my quartz banger, I scooped up a diamond drenched in sauce to dab. The flavor is almost as immediate as the smell, as your palate fills with rich notes of terpinolene and myrcene. The potency of the crystalized THC is felt upon exhale as the terpenes overwhelm the senses. If you are a new user, you might cough because of the presence of strong terpenes.

CBDDISCOVERY BHO SUGAR WAX CBDiscovery is a family owned and operated company that specializes in sugar wax hydrocarbons. The material is a golden, sparkly, crumbly consistency which reminds me of brown sugar - also making it easily dabbable. The THCa crystals are floating in a terpene rich matrix which delivers potency and flavor to consumers. Make sure to dab this product at a low temperature to enhance the flavor of the oil, if you go too hot it burns the terpenes too quickly. When dabbed at the right temperature, the flavor is subtle but shines through. I would recommend this to users who want flavor without being overwhelmed. Nothing crazy, just quality.

This live resin has an enjoyable sweet/ sour cherry/tart nose that brings you back for a second smell. My eyes were met with a chucky diamond consistency, ranging from small to medium size and coated in a small helping of sauce. The consistency is slightly chunkier than I normally prefer for portioning out my dabs, but it’s still relatively easy to snag the desired amount. When dabbed at 590ºF, the sweet and tart flavor profile that was detected with my nose comes through clearly, but not overpoweringly terpy.
Strain: Chem Dog D
Strain: Cherry Truffle
When I twisted open the childproof lid, my nose was quickly met with an overwhelmingly gas/caryophyllene scent, followed by subtle notes of lime and earth. It’s a terpene profile that could split the room, but for me I love the gassy hash. The sugary and terpene rich budder consistency makes scooping out the right size dab easy! Flavor is a sharp and sweet diesel profile, followed by a mind-bending head and shoulders potency. The oil is also single source from sun grown material, cultivated in living soil.

Green Dragon Extracts specializes in CO2 extracts by providing a high quality oil without sacrificing flavor, not to mention preserving terpenes. Green Dragon refines only hand selected flower from Oregon’s finest farms. Their product delivers the terpenes without the typical burnt caramel flavor associated with CO2 extracts. I found the Ninja Dawg to be easy on the lungs and the subtle flavor was easy to smoke on. I would recommend this product to new consumers because it doesn’t overwhelm the senses like a potent live resin would.

As stated on their website, “While butane and propane are excellent solvents, they are flammable, and can leave harmful residues in the end product. In addition, being derived from petroleum, they are not environmentally friendly. Peak Extracts is dedicated to providing patients with the cleanest, safest extracts as possible, with the least environmental impact.”. Not only is Peak Extracts aware of the impact the legal Cannabis industry has on the environment, they are also a female owned company - another rarity to support in the Cannabis industry. I found the Shark Shock CBD pen to rip like none other! The battery is universal, doesn’t require a button and works on inhale. It rips like a joint and the terpene rich oil is incredibly easy on the lungs. I think I smoked so much of it because it was so smooth and the terpenes didn’t agitate my lungs. As for flavor, the Shark Shock was tangy and bright. It took the edge off without over-medicating myself, making for an excellent summer day.

Utilizing strictly Cannabis derived terpenes in all of their oils, the crew at Natural Roots has been crafting CO2 derived distillate carts for the Oregon market since early 2018. These cartridges give the user a quality representation of the strain, as they don’t recombine naturally derived terpenes in an attempt to mimic a strain profile. The hit is smooth and flavorful, and the oil is housed in industry standard, five ten fitting cartridges that fit most batteries - making them a win in our book. The effects are apparent after only a couple draws and, despite being CO2 derived distillate, the oil has no “burnt caramel” flavor that many CO2 oils carry. All you taste is the strain.

PERMACULTURE SOLUTIONS 5-STAR 90U WHOLE PLANT BUBBLE HASH For anyone in Oregon who’s a fan of solventless extracts, the name Permaculture Solutions probably calls to mind years worth of standout melts and rosins which have been sorely missed from the market since they parted ways with Alternative Remedies dispensary last year. The dispensary was formerly the same site where the hash making operation was housed, forcing the Permaculture Solutions crew to relocate. Thankfully, the crew at Permaculture Solutions is up and running again, and is preparing to return to the market full-force. This GG4 5* 90u whole plant bubble hash is supremely potent, providing wonderful full body effects in part thanks to their minimalist approach used for processing true hash - utilizing only varying size micron bags, ice and water to separate the trichome heads from the plant. The desirable compounds, the terpenes and flavonoids and cannabinoids, are all suspended in the trichome head, which Permaculture Solutions artfully removes, collects and dries before being ready for consumption.

NELSON AND COMPANY 5-STAR/6-STAR BUBBLE HASH Without a doubt, the crew at Nelson and Company have been at the top of their game. Between the exclusively single-source practices, the constantly rotating strain offerings, and the budget conscious price point, it’s easy to see why Nelson and Company is an easy favorite among many Oregon dab connoisseurs. They continue to maintain a consistent output of high grade hash, the pinnacle of extracts and easily the rarest form of the plant available to consumers in Oregon, in both the 5* and 6* grades. Unwavering on quality, Nelson and Company’s offerings, like the Chemdawg, GMO and Chem de la Chem pictured, are always extremely flavorful and effective.

HAPPY CABBAGE FARMS
ROSIN
Happy Cabbage is one of the fastest growing solventless processing companies in Oregon and for good reason. The company’s small team works together to turn finely grown indoor Cannabis into 5* and 6* hash rosin. Up until mid April of this year, Happy Cabbage worked exclusively as a single source company, growing and processing in-house only. However, demand rapidly outpaced their grow’s production, leading them to launch their first collaborations with Gadsden Gardens, TJ’s Gardens and Ten Four Farms - and rumor has it more on the way. Happy Cabbage seems to have an eye for exotics, dropping ridiculous sounding flavors like Electric Oranges, Ice Cream Cake and Margarita Punch on the regular. The quality is undeniable and the presentation is more than proper, Oregon Leaf approved.
NATURAL GAS EXTRACTS ROCKS N’ SAUCE Natural Gas may be one of the newer solventless processing companies in the state, but you’d never know it by looking at or trying one of their products. Solventless diamonds basking in solventless terp sauce, you say? This is a relatively new type of extract for Oregon’s recreational market that combines mechanically separated terpene fractions with solventless THCA diamonds, and the end result is sublimely potent. Despite being vertically integrated with their own farm, Natural Gas has had a strong start with partnerships running material for some of Oregon’s top quality growers like Benson Elvis and Fidus Family Farms.

WHOLE PLANT EXTRACT SISKIYOU SUNGROWN 1:1 FULL SPECTRUM OIL Siskiyou Sungrown Cannabis oil has been one of the industries most trusted full extract oils. All of the material used for the oil is sungrown Cannabis from Southern Oregon, in order to reduce the impact on the environment. This product comes in a syringe and it my go-to when I need strong relief and I want to cut back on my sugar intake. For beginners, I suggest lining a piece of parchment paper with rice size dots and storing in the freezer for exact and easy dosing. The product tastes like plant material, but if you infuse the Cannabis oil in olive or grapeseed oil, you can easily medicate meals with very little effect on the flavor. The versatility and strength of this product is excellent for OMMP patients.

RICKREALL, OR JUL. 2019
If you know me, I love a good story on industry underdogs during the cutthroat transformation of Cannabis into a corporate industry. In 2017, the OHA granted anyone who paid the $4,000 processing fee the right to operate legally, but most OMMP processors since transitioned to the recreational market. Within four years of legalization, the medical program has been tragically stripped of quality processors, except for Berkovitz - the lone wolf still hanging on. We began with Berkovitz’s origin story on how and why he focuses on processing Cannabis. “I got into concentrate processing in unregulated states, trying to stretch $75 ounces of brick weed into something worth using,” recalled Berkovitz. “Edibles were my first attempt, which worked well. But the taste and smell were gross and not discrete. So naturally, I asked the internet how to make edibles that don’t taste like burnt weed. Which led me to Skunk Pharm Reseach, and began our current path of closed loop hydrocarbon processing.” Skunk Pharm Research has played a pivotal role in empowering OMMP patients to safely navigate the potentially dangerous world of concentrates through knowledge, while also promoting safety. After Berkovitz moved to Oregon in 2014, he became a patient, grower and caregiver after three days of moving from Texas. Berkovitz suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome and chronic pain, so he easily fostered empathy for those in need of a healthy alternative to pharmaceuticals. “When patient processing was outlawed in 2016, I put my solvents away until December
So I’m down to three shops in Oregon, and if 2017 when PharmEx was granted a license one of the cogs falls out, I don’t know how much by the OHA. But, I continued to process with longer I could last.” ethanol and press rosin to provide medicine Berkovitz’s license is up for renewal in Decemto patients via legal routes the while I was still ber and his future remains undecided. Right now, other than bottleneck his potential growth as a business. medical dispensaries, I have no other outlets. “I would stay [in the OMMP program] indefinitely but I’m not sure I can afford to. PharmEx will always support the OMMP as long as the program continues to exist, but it may not be as an OHA processor. It’s weird because I’m the last one, so if I drop my license, I’m not only leaving OMMP growers and dispensaries with no processor, but I’m left wondering if they might kill that part of the program if there are no active licenses. I’d hate to be the last domino to fall, leaving the OMMP dispensaries with no concentrates, extracts, or edibles on the shelf.” Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and the gravity of being the last sole OMMP processor in the state of Oregon adds more weight in the face of potential extinction. In order to keep and maintain access open to concentrates for OMMP patients, Berkovitz soldiers on. Without Berkovitz, patients across the state who need concentrates in areas without recreational dispensaries would be hurt the most.

CONSUMER INTEREST IN HEMP DERIVED CBD (0.3 % THC OR LESS)
products is growing at a steady pace, as many extracts are marketed claiming health benefits. The public interest has not gone unnoticed by the Food and Drug Administration. During May, the FDA held a public hearing discussing the scientific data and information about Cannabis derived compounds, including hemp extracts. This regulatory agency believes the drug approval process is the best way to ensure the safety of new Cannabis products. The FDA is also concerned about unsubstantiated medical claims from CBD products that may delay medical care. This agency has issued several warning letters to firms claiming to produce CBD products to treat Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. There is also a concern about the widespread availability of CBD extract as an unregulated substance, and as a result the agency is interested in clinical research. Cannabis contains 120 naturally occurring cannabinoids with potential to gain medical benefit from each compound, or a combination of compounds. There is huge potential for these molecules as consumable products. The cannabinoids cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC) and Cannabinol (CBN) are of particular interest. These compounds are the most commonly used as nutraceuticals, foods containing health giving additives and providing medicinal benefit. Some studies indicate CBG and CBC for treatment of inflammatory diseases, and CBN could be a sleep aid. These cannabinoid compounds are evaluated individually and in combination as an entourage effect. The entourage effect is a pharmacological mechanism proposing that a mixture of cannabinoids works better compared to individual isolated compounds. The entourage effect is often discussed when selecting the correct CBD extract for ailments such as pain, anxiety or sleep disorders. This term is a Cannabis buzzword that will be understood in greater depth as medical studies of Cannabis compounds continue to be published. One study noted that CBD isolate (pure formulation) administered to mice worked better in smaller doses compared to larger doses. Meaning, dosage of individual isolate does not provide more benefit as dosage increases. Mice given full spectrum (multiple cannabinoids and terpenes) experienced greater effects and ostensibly benefitted as dosage increased. Full spectrum extract may provide more benefit compared to individual isolate. The goal in medical research of CBD extracts should come with an understanding of the effects of each cannabinoid, and the mixture of cannabinoids plus terpenes. Producing THC-free full spectrum extracts is very challenging because the timing of harvest and plant stress can often produce unpredictable analyte levels during extraction. There is also no exact definition at this time of what full spectrum means at the consumer level. Some say all cannabinoids, including THC, must be present - while others believe that full spectrum extract can contain less than 0.3% THC. Manufacturers and consumers will drive the market for CBD extract as knowledge of the medical benefits of Cannabis derived compounds increases. Here, you should carefully consider the product claims when purchasing CBD extracts. We are in a discovery period for the medical potential of hemp derived cannabinoids. Selecting products online from manufacturers producing hemp extract of questionable origin may lead to acquiring a bottle of overpriced extract with little to no medical benefit. Do your research independently and talk to producers with a good reputation for producing high quality compounds. There are many passionate educators in the Cannabis extract industry who want to share the collective knowledge of the benefits of CBD extract.

Many “quartz” bangers are cheaply assembled in China and can only withstand about a month or two of heavy dabbing. American made quartz bangers are made in smaller batches, often with higher quality quartz which enhances both flavor and the quality of the dab.
This laser thermometer helps achieve the perfect temperature dab. The temptech sits under the nail constantly reading the heat level so you know exactly when it’s ready - hot dabs are a thing of the past!
Banger balls are small quartz marbles that help the nail stay at temperature longer. Utilizing these will enhance flavor and make for longer lasting dabs.
Using an alcohol-soaked Q-tip to clean the nail after each dab will keep it looking like new and drastically improve flavor.

DEGENERATE FLAME-OFF
In 2009 Mike “Mer” Steeler and Justin Sheppard had the great idea to start a flame-off at the Cornerstone in Eugene, Oregon. Being that this town is so influential to glass culture, it was the perfect place to start the Degenerate Flame Off. Now DFO is one of the West Coast’s largest gatherings of world class glass artists, collectors and industry affiliates. Thanks to names like Mike Steeler, Justin Sheppard, Ashley Tulare, Abe Fleishman, Deb Philpot, Libby Goettelman, Matty White, and many others for continuing this event through hardships and through outgrowing the original facility. 2016 was the last year for the DFO at Cornerstone glass.

“I started to bug Abe about not letting the event die.
He said if I could find a place to hold it we could plan it,” recalled Libby Goettelman, DFO Event Coordinator. “I started to look all around Eugene wanting to keep the event with its roots, but when nothing panned out I started looking in Portland and everywhere in between. After over a year of looking, the event did not happen in 2017. I finally came across the Cedarville Lodge, and Abe and I both felt that this is where the DFO needed to be. With Ashley and Justin’s permission, we were on to bringing the event back.” Just like that, Northstar was gearing up for DFO Family Reunion 2018 and couldn’t be stopped. After a successful 2018 event, Northstar was planning to celebrate the 10th annual DFO back at Cedarville Lodge, and let me be the first to tell you it was spectacular! The amount of love from the community for this event is next level. DFO brings in countless volunteers that are willing to do whatever the coordinators may need them to. This year was especially awesome because of the people that came from all over. There were photographers, collectors, artists, and more that came from Philadelphia, Boston, Florida, Maryland, and beyond. One of my personal favorite parts of the event was getting to witness Team Japan having an awesome time in Oregon, while absolutely crushing their demo piece. That brings me to the next part, the demonstrations! These men and women did such an amazing job this weekend. DFO brings nearly 70 artists to demo in this two day event. Everywhere you look your mind is being blown. I think the most incredible piece to come from the weekend was the five way collab between Buck, Deppe, Darby, Trevy, and WJC. These guys pulled off a finish to one of the coolest glass pieces I have ever seen. Huge thanks also goes out to Matty White and his team! Matty runs Champs Glass Games and helps out tremendously by setting up all the tables, lines, kilns and all other things the artists may need. I can’t thank Libby, Abe, Deb, and their whole crew enough. This event is something that I will always hold close to my heart because of the friends I’ve met, the art I’ve seen, and the memories I’ve made. See you all next year at the 11th annual DFO Family Reunion!

Stoner Owner is Oregon Leaf’s monthly highlight on individuals who’ve developed their love for Cannabis into a thriving business. We’re profiling those who love and actually consume the plant, giving them real insight into the industry’s roots and culture. Orlando has worked within - and survived - the Oregon Cannabis industry since before legalization, with a focus on creating high quality edibles. Formerly known as “the butcher” for his excellence with meat, craft food has always been a passion in his life, even before his dive into the intense waters of Cannabis. As a father and husband to his business partner and wife Lauren, together they have built a Latino, independently-owned family business based on tasty sour gummy edibles known as Sour Bhotz.
You’ve been a Cannabis business owner for five years. What HAS IT BEEN LIKE operating a Cannabis business WITH ALL OF the ever-changing regulations? One of the biggest challenges is keeping the team informed on updated compliance protocols, as well as an organized and systematic work environment to maintain consistency in all aspects of our operations. Attention to detail and communication is vital.

How do you balance the demands of work, family life and recreation? We’re a family business, so for us it’s all about including family in our day-to-day. Our whole team is family at this point. We try and maintain a fair balance of work and rest. Most team members work four-day, forty-hour work weeks, and have three-day, seventy-two hour rest periods - so we balance things out amongst each other pretty well.

Is it challenging to work with people outside the Cannabis community - with money but little experience with the plant itself - driven by profit but lack the undeniable passion? Absolutely, especially when they know nothing about weed or even smoke for that matter. It does get annoying when suits aim to change business in such a way that undermines how and why we’re here in the first place. It’s not about a high valuation or some bullshit speculations, it’s about quality products to the end consumer. G R E E N STATE O F M I N DI N C . CO M

RASPBERRY WHIP & CHIPS Serves 4-6
1 ½ cups nonfat Greek vanilla yogurt, drained in cheesecloth or fine strainer over a bowl overnight 1-2 tablespoons honey 2-4 tablespoons orange juice 1-2 tablespoons canna-oil, melted and cooled 2 teaspoons vanilla 10 ounces raspberries, fresh or frozen, pureed 1/3 cup chocolate chips
“POTRIOTIC” RED, WHITE AND BLUE STUFFED ANGEL FOOD CAKE Serves 12
1 cup sifted cake flour (not self-rising) 1 1/2 cups sugar 12 large egg whites 2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest 1 tablespoon orange juice 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon salt 4 cups sliced berries 2 teaspoons sugar 2-4 tablespoons melted canna-butter or canna-oil 12 small scoops vanilla low fat ice cream
1. Place the yogurt in a large bowl. Add the honey, orange juice, infused oil and vanilla. Stir well to combine. 2. Using a spatula fold in the raspberry puree and chips, creating swirls. Divide the mixture between 4-6 glasses or bowls.

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees, with rack in lower third of oven. Sift flour and 1/2 cup sugar into a bowl. 2. Whisk whites with a mixer on medium speed until frothy, about one minute. Add orange zest and juice, cream of tartar, vanilla, and salt. Continue whisking until soft peaks form, about 2 1/2 minutes. With mixer running, gradually add remaining cup of sugar. 3. Increase speed to medium-high. Continue whisking until firm, not stiff, peaks form - about two minutes. Sprinkle whites with 1/3 of the flour/sugar mixture. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold to combine. Sprinkle remaining flour/sugar mixture over whites in two additions. Gently fold to combine.

4. Transfer batter to a 10-inch angel food cake pan with legs. Gently run a knife through the center of the batter to remove any air bubbles. Bake until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean, 45 to 50 minutes.
MANGO ME Serves 2

JUL. 2019
1 cup coconut milk, almond or soy 1 cup fresh or frozen mango chunks 1 large avocado, pitted peeled and tossed w/ 2 tablespoons lime juice 2/3 cup fresh pineapple cut in chunks 1-2 tablespoons honey 2 teaspoons canna-coconut oil
1. Place all ingredients in blender. Blend on low to start, then crank up to medium high to finish. Enjoy!
5. Remove pan from oven, and invert onto its cooling legs. If your tube pan doesn’t have legs, invert it over the neck of a wine, or similarly shaped, bottle to cool. Let cool, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Run a knife around the inner and outer edges of cake to remove. Invert onto a serving platter. Use a knife to separate cake from bottom of pan. Let cool on a wire rack. Unfrosted cake can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days. 6. Place the cake on your work surface. Carefully, with a serrated knife, cut the cake two inches from the top. Scoop out the cake creating a well, but keeping the sides intact. 7. In a bowl, combine the berries with the sugar and the canna-butter or oil. Place the ice cream in the dug out cake, along with the berries. Place the top on the cake and serve.

Our first impression of these squishy, fun jellies was excitement for the different dosage options. Some days call for a lot of THC, and others need a hefty dose of CBD. These yummy bites have that covered! With a standard 50mg THC version (10mg per piece), a 50mg 1:1 with 10mg of THC and CBD in each bite, and a CBD heavy version with 30mg of CBD and 1mg THC in each square. These are solid options for patients and recreational users alike, and we tried all three with happy results. The flavors we tried were peach, margarita and berry. All the flavors come from real fruit juice and puree, with none of the fake chemical taste found in some other candies. These taste natural and delicious, with our favorite flavor being the margarita. With the perfect combination of lime refreshment and a 1:1 dose, we found our happy hour started much better with a jellie or two. This pectin based candy has a solid bite and mouthfeel with an easy finish - no lingering stickiness and is an overall satisfying bite. From the size of the bite to the quality ingredients and stoner conscious dosage options, the care and thought put into this product is apparent. We definitely recommend mixing Journeyman Jellies into your summer routine, and trying all the tasty flavors at your favorite dispensary!

TOPICAL OF THE MONTH
IT’S STRONG BUT NOT OVERWHELMING AND SMELLS AMAZING ONCE APPLIED TO THE SKIN.
DRAGON’SBLEND CANNABIS-INFUSEDBALM P RODUCE D by MEDICINE FARM BOTANICALS PACKAGING (4/5) The Dragon’s Blend Cannabis-infused Balm is packaged in quaint and neatly filled, UV-protected glass jars. I appreciate the minimal packaging in order to reduce the waste associated with the Cannabis industry. AROMA (5/5)
The frankincense, myrrh and cinnamon hit your nose first, but then the fennel and clove mellow out the scent. The overall aroma is musk, dominated with spicy notes of turmeric. It’s strong but not overwhelming, and smells amazing once applied to the skin.
78
CONSISTENCY AND ABSORPTION (5/5) I love the consistency of this
balm. Too many topicals made with wax are too hard and difficult to melt and apply if it’s in a jar or tin. This balm is velvety and glides on the skin and absorbs without excess oil. But do not leave this balm in the sun, and make sure to store it in a cool place.

EFFECTS (5/5)
I HAVE COME ACROSS TONS OF TOPICALS IN MY LINE OF WORK, BUT NONE HIT QUITE LIKE MEDICINE FARM BOTANICALS’ DRAGON BALM. I’M IN LOVE WITH THE EASY TO APPLY, SOFT AND WAXY CONSISTENCY, AND THE AROMA IS INCREDIBLE - STRONG NOTES OF MYRRH AND FRANKINCENSE WITH AN ORIGINAL ADDITION OF FENNEL AND CINNAMON.
JUL. 2019
Even though this balm has a strong smell, it doesn’t irritate my skin. I’m currently PMS-ing and I always experience this weird lower back pain. So as an experiment, I applied the Dragon Balm to one side of my back and left the other side unexposed. Come fifteen minutes later, the side with Dragon Balm was feeling much more relaxed in comparison to the other side, which still held painful tension. This balm would also be excellent for massage, but do not apply to open wounds.

Remember that movie where the guy is dying of thirst in the desert and he keeps thinking that he sees water up ahead, but it’s only a mirage? Well, that is what your brain is doing when it tells you that if you drink more alcohol, you’ll feel better. And be more amazing. And be a more amazing singer. You know how it works; the progression casually begins at Friday happy hour with a beer and a shot just to take the edge off - a reward for the tempest of horseshit you weathered all week. Then things turn professional with more pints before throwing all caution to a stiff wind with the kind of reckless abandon that involves consecutive rounds of mystery shots with trendy names, followed by hard high fives and puckered faces. Inevitably, the evening will wind down with a large cocktail and another beer that goes half drank, before waving the proverbial white bar nap in staggering surrender. Your mind, body and spirit are separate entities now, clashing like titans, fueled in a paradoxical lather of physical imbalance. And a false sense of mental fortitude. With your better sense of rationale completely disregarded and your level of sobriety stubbornly defended, you’re in no position at this point to make calculated decisions. Like whether to invest the $43 for an Uber ride home, or drive yourself. Or whether to provoke an argument with another drunk person, or your significant other. Or whether to provoke an argument with your drunk significant other. Or whether it’s a good idea to eat. And eat a lot. This is called the Drunchies. Be it the Denny’s Grand Slam loaded with maple syrup and a banana split chaser, a super-sized Big Mac meal accentuated by dubious packets of ketchup and a crushed Oreo McFlurry, or a fully loaded bacon wrapped street dog - a liquor induced feeding frenzy is a recipe for a boiling volcanic cauldron. Note: Under no circumstances should this condition ever be confused with the munchies.
