which couldn’t be more needed. I know I was really feeling the lack of Vitamin D this year. To celebrate, our team took a trip around Oregon gathering some killer content for our first ever Travel Issue! Traveling with weed is always better, and becoming a pot tourist in your own state is definitely a vacation worth taking. While everyone has their own local dispensary that feels like Cheers, it’s important to see new places and check out the different vibes available. With hundreds of new recreational locations opening all over the state, take the time to go check one out this summer! It’s a great way to justify a road trip, and you’ll find fire to go with the heat from the sun. Now that’s summer! This month’s issue also features coverage of the Hand Made DAB event held in Washington last month. This charity event raised over $20,000 for a local summer camp, and brought together some of the best glass artists in the PNW to compete in an epic boro derby battle. We had the pleasure of photographing all 32 cars entered, and I definitely recommend checking them out! I personally really appreciated the balance between art, charity and fun represented by the Hand Made team, and want to give a major shout out to them for throwing such an epic event! Our team also worked hard to bring coverage of the Cultivation Classic, a new growtech section, news updates, strains and concentrates, and a tasty infused ice cream review! Overall this is a wonderful issue, and I hope that like our team, you get out and travel and share this with friends, family and strangers! —Wes Abney

Pot-hating Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently said marijuana is only “slightly less awful” that heroin. Music legend Willie Nelson has responded by saying that Jeff Sessions needs to smoke some weed. “I wonder if he’s tried both of them,” Nelson, said to Rolling Stone. “I don’t think you can really make a statement like that unless you tried it all. So I’d like to suggest to Jeff to try it and then let me know later if he thinks he’s still telling the truth!” Nelson markets his own brand of marijuana, Willie’s Reserve, in legal states. He often speaks glowingly of his personal experiences with weed. Willie was asked if there’s any downside to smoking pot. “I haven’t run into any yet,” he said. “I guess if you go somewhere where it’s illegal, that’s a pretty good downside.” Nelson has been busted several times for weed. Nelson’s 61st album, God’s Problem Child, was released last month. It features the song “Still Not Dead,” which humorously addresses the numerous “Willie’s gone” rumors which have swept across social media lately.

W
here can you smoke weed in Oregon?
Lawmakers say “out of public view” so Cannabis users remain on house arrest. One would think adult Cannabis consumption laws and events would improve post legalization, but it’s only gotten worse for those who partake. Hempstalk has battled for turf since 2015, and a High Times Cannabis Cup seems like a distant fantasy. Our very own Cultivation Classic flower competition, put on by Willamette Week, had zero consumption on site, which turned it into a drinking event where you could learn about Cannabis. Informative, but not ideal. Lucky for Oregon, Senate Bill 307 was introduced in the 2017 session in January. It provides the framework for how to go about handling the issue of social consumption: “ …regulation by Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) of consumption and sale of marijuana items at temporary events, including licensure of premises on which temporary events are held.” If passed, Cannabis event organizers could apply to obtain a “temporary event permit” so vendors can allow the public over age 21 to consume Cannabis products during events. The possibility of allowing Cannabis lounges or “bars” to open to the public remains out of reach, at the moment. Right now, it looks like Oregon’s Cannabis industry is trying to move forward by pushing for public consumption at permitted events. Without the passage of SB 307, competitions like the Cultivation Classic—or a High Times Cup—cannot legally allow attendees to consume Cannabis of any form during future events. The best way to ensure the passage of SB 307 is to contact the local elected representative within your Oregon district. Send an email and call to try to reach someone in the office. Local government jobs are to make sure local constituents’ needs are being met and reflected in ongoing public policy. Oregon Cannabis users must demand a legal way to allow social consumption, akin to the standards of alcohol. Oregon Cannabis tourism will continue to sink without the support of our local governments. If adults do not have safe, legal spaces to consume Cannabis (much like the standards of a bar) and hotels do not permit indoor smoking or balcony use, what’s the point? If Cannabis users can purchase Cannabis products in public, we should be granted a social setting to consume. Why can’t I smoke my weed among strangers and friends if I am over 21? Why am I still forced to closet my Cannabis consumption? Well, because we haven’t properly voiced our demands. Email your reps! It’s a bit early to expect full blown, brick-and-mortar Cannabis bars, but permits are a solid start. If you live in Oregon, contact your elected representative to put pressure on local government to allow Cannabis event permits. Cannabis users deserve safe spaces to gather and consume as a community. To close, I bring you the words of three wise men: “You gotta fight for your right to partyyyy”.
THE BEST WAY TO ENSURE THE PASSAGE OF SB 307 IS TO CONTACT THE LOCAL ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE WITHIN YOUR OREGON DISTRICT.

there is a profit incentive to move product from medical into the recreational market. As adult use consumers are less price sensitive than patients are. Also, there is the risk that supply of good medicine will be so low that even if it all stays in the medical market, the average patient won’t be able to afford as much medicine as they need to find relief. According to a press release from the OLCC, “Steven Marks, the Commission’s executive director said the agency would monitor patients’ ability to obtain their medicine—especially those with serious illnesses—and act to ensure patient access to medicine either in partnership with the OHA, or within the OLCC’s own rulemaking authority.” Marks also mentions the effort to bring the stateBy MATTHEW MEYERS run Cannabis program into full compliance with the Cole memo to ensure that the feds stay hands-off. frustrating changes to the OMMP. Personally, what I worry that whatever system gets developed prioritizes safe about is that when the two markets are combined and affordable access to medicine for all patients.
OLCC CANOPY BUMP UP AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE OMMP
It’s no secret that the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) is inching its way toward absorbing the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) under its authority (see my last article about HB 2198 in the April issue on page 22). A recent decision by the OLCC to allow licensed producers to bump up their canopy size to also grow for medical patients and dispensaries could signal the beginning of the end for the OMMP program as we know it. There is a lot of room for improvement with both the adult use and medical programs in this state, so I remain hopeful that both programs will improve after the transition, but as a medical patient myself, I am worried about having the OLCC—an organization focused on recreational consumption drugs—will be regulating critical decisions about my medicine. According to an April 28 OLCC press release, “The bump allows OLCC producer licensees to grow medical marijuana for registered OMMP cardholders at the same location as their producer license. OLCC licensees participating in the bump up will not be registered with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Those participating in the bump up can grow marijuana specifically for OLCC commercial purposes and can grow additional marijuana that is intended for registered OMMP cardholders only.” On one hand this change is terrifying for OMMP growers because it’s one more advantage that recreational has over a medical license; however this is a smart move because a lot of patients lost their growers when they flipped their license to recreational and the OMMP capped the number of patient cards per grow. With the bump up, those growers can still produce medicine for their patients without having to register a different grow site! So, like everything in life, this change comes with good and bad aspects. It alone doesn’t alarm me but it’s important to understand this move in the context of the last year of Matthew Meyers is a Hood River-based Cannabis journalist, activist & enthusiast.

bly already know he’s a Cannabis advocate and consumer. There’s also no denying that Willie Nelson is a musical genius. He started writing songs in his hometown of Abbott, Texas at age 7 – and joined his first band at 10 years old. Throughout his career, he’s won almost every accolade imaginable – from Grammy awards to Kennedy Center honors. He’s a revolutionary country artist that helped define and create the outlaw sounds of the 1960s and 1970s and straddled multiple genres from jazz to classical music. Strangely enough, Nelson was a bit of a late-comer to Cannabis. In his recent memoir “It’s a Long Story,” Nelson said that propaganda prevented him from consuming the plant in his younger years “I was a hick from Abbott. I’d seen ‘Reefer Madness,’ and I was a little worried that a little pot might get me crazy. Wasn’t I crazy enough?” It wasn’t until the early 70s when Nelson was in his late thirties that he started to embrace the “hippy lifestyle” and smoke with more frequency. While Cannabis didn’t change his sound all that much, it changed his attitude, and his audience significantly. “I liked that [the kids] had courage to look and act any damn way they pleased,” he writes. “The new world represented by the Grateful Dead or the Jefferson Airplane was new only in appearance. [It] appealed to me because it was bold and creative and said to the world, ‘To hell with what you think. I’ll dress any way I please.’ ” These new revelations led to Nelson’s most critically-acclaimed and popular period of his career. In 1975, he recorded his seminal “Red Headed Stranger” which would set the stage for his most successful recordings and stage appearances to come. Always one to speak his mind, Willie Nelson never shied away from the spotlight: “My love affair with pot became a long-term marriage,” he writes. “It was, by far, the smoothest of all my marriages. As I moved closer to the Woodstock Nation, as I bore witness to their music-loving, life-loving, peace-loving ways, I saw the key role played by pot. Pot was a communal experience,” he writes. “Weed calmed me. Liquor made me reckless. Weed made me careful.” From smoking on top of the White House roof during the Carter administration, to sharing a joint with Snoop Dogg, Toby Keith or Dave Matthews or acting in “Half Baked” smoking a joint with Dave Chappelle – Willie Nelson has become one of the most high-profile Cannabis advocates in popular culture today.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST EXPERIENCE CANNABIS? I first experienced Cannabis in high school. I tried it a few times but I was a runner and didn’t really care for it at the time. It wasn’t until my college years that I really learned to enjoy both the medicinal and recreational value of marijuana. I would say that my early experiences with marijuana helped to calm me down in stressful times and lift my spirits as well.
THE BETTER THE CONVERSATION, THE BETTER I CAN SERVE THE CUSTOMER’S NEEDS. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE CANNABIS STRAINS, EFFECTS AND TERPENE PROFILES?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A BUDTENDER, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB? I’ve been a budtender for over a year, so I’m relatively new to the game – but so is everyone since it’s a new profession. My previous professional experience, retail and service industry, have served me well in acclimating to this new positon. Budtending can be a high wire act where the climate is constantly changing in terms of new laws, regulations, price fluctuations, etc. I enjoy these challenges, and navigating through the ups and downs. At the end of the day though, I just enjoy helping folks out and watching them leave with a genuine smile on their face.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE METHOD OF CONSUMPTION? To tell you the truth I simply like smoking flower, by any means. I’m not a big dabber or edibles guy. That’s not to say I don’t use those methods, I just prefer smoking to everything else.
Who’s your favorite budtender? Every month, our dedicated team meets to select a budtender that stands out above the rest! Tell us who you think should be the next Oregon Leaf Budtender of the Month
I love Sour Tangie and Platinum Girl Scout Cookie from Ten Four Farms, Cherry Kush from Nelson & Co., Hawaiian Dutch from Luvli Farms. I’d say these are my current favorites. Cannabis is great because it runs the gamut of effects and flavor terpene profiles, so I can always find something that suits my current mood.
HOW DO YOU FIND THE RIGHT CANNABIS FOR EACH OF YOUR CUSTOMERS?
budtender of the month
GROVER KIM
Pure Green was one of Portland’s first retail dispensaries, and because of that, they’ve cultivated a loyal clientele, and workforce. Grover Kim is one of the longest-tenured budtenders at the shop, having been hired on staff just as legalization in Oregon took hold. Before becoming a member of the Cannabis workforce in Oregon, he was a caregiver. That experience served him well in his current positon. Grover has an upbeat personality and is as comfortable talking about his two other passions – baseball and vinyl records – to those who are lucky enough to get his service behind the counter. Most of all, Grover knows Cannabis inside and out and what to recommend to first time or novice customers – because of that, he’s our budtender of the month here at the Leaf.
Conversation, plain and simple. The more someone tells me about the effect you’re looking for, the strength, or the terpene profiles you are seeking, the easier it is for me to navigate a customer to the strain that will serve them best. The better the conversation, the better I can serve the customer’s needs.
WHAT MAKES YOUR SHOP’S (PURE GREEN) APPROACH TO CUSTOMER SERVICE DIFFERENT? I don’t think we approach customer service any differently than any other dispensary, per se. That is, at Pure Green, we strive to be friendly and personable as well as professional. We try to stock product from growers and producers we trust and believe in. We want all our customers and patients to feel comfortable and welcome, and get the product(s) they are looking for.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES/INTERESTS OUTSIDE THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY? I’m a baseball fanatic. I also DJ and collect records. I’ve been spinning records for over 25 years now, I love it. I’d like to keep DJ-ing for another 25 years!

“I was on Trileptal and if I wasn’t insured, it would cost me over $300 a bottle,” Carlson said. Once she began using the medication regularly, the seizures eventually subsided. Carlson naturally tapered off her meds once her health stabilized. After finding out she was pregnant in 2008, with her doctor’s approval, she successfully weaned herself off of all prescribed anticonvulsants. “I was seizure-free from 2008 all the way until last summer. I lost the job that brought me to Portland, my lease was up on my apartment and we didn’t know where we were going to go. All of the stress added up so quickly, I experienced a seizure July 8, 2016. I am a roving Veterinarian and I had a seizure during a house call. Unfortunately, I did not stay there to call my husband or an ambulance. I experienced my second seizure while driving on Highway 26 trying to get to the hospital. I am lucky to be alive,” Carlson said. Three days after the episode, she applied for her OMMP card. Carlson knew from the get-go she didn’t want to go back on harsh anticonvulsants again. As of last fall, Carlson started using highCBD strains of Cannabis to keep stress levels low and her chances of going into a seizure minimal. “I have a huge emphasis on CBD. I use CBD in all forms, edible, flower, concentrate, topical, when I feel a seizure coming on. I try to intake as much CBD as possible to stabilize myself. I loved using the CBD patches, back when dispensaries carried them. I have trouble with the sleep-wake transition, and the patch stabilizes me into my morning routine,” Carlson said. Carlson believes she’s had the best success as a medical patient in Oregon because everything was regulated and organized through the state. Test labs existed and you actually knew what you were smoking – which is important as a patient treating specific medical conditions such as PNES. “I am less successful at treating myself without a medical card. It’s more like ‘flowers for fun’ back when all you had was the unregulated market,” Carlson said. “I can maintain my quality of life with Cannabis. I can’t do that on pills. No matter what kind of health issues you are dealing with, when it comes to treatment options, you want something that works really well and doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day life. I found that with Cannabis. I have been seizure-free since my incident last summer, Carlson said beaming with pride. It was awe-inspiring to hear Carlson’s story of healing and perseverance through Cannabis. Thank you for sharing your story with our readers!

LLAMA KUSH
OLCC Licensed grow in Takilma that specializes in high CBD, low THC strains. This tier II licensed facility was originally a llama farm and still houses a few of the animals yearround. I was fortunate enough to receive a sample of their staple strain, the Llama Kush. The buds are rather airy in structure, and the trichomes have matured to an amber color. Cracking open a few nugs reveals a light cherry scent, not the medicinal cherry that’s pretty common in CBD cultivars, but a sweet, candied cherry that was pleasant on the palate. I rolled up a few joints of the Llama Kush to enjoy with the Leaf team so I could get a few different opinions on flavor, cure and quality of smoke. Each joint burned evenly and was a smooth smoke. The effects are mellow and calming yet functional. The presence of a minute amount of THC makes for a focused, energetic buzz that is complemented by the relaxing body euphoria from the CBD. This cultivar from East Fork is great for combatting anxiety, pain, inflammation and other conditions. East Fork’s Llama Kush is exclusively available at Serra Cannabis in Portland and Eugene.

G
nome Grown Organics is a beyond organic OLCC licensed farm located in beautiful Canby. When I say beyond organic, I mean it lightly and heavily. Lightly in the sense that, no Cannabis crop yet can be considered officially “organic” as it remains a Schedule I drug under federal regulations, and heavily in the sense that this farm’s regenerative farming techniques coupled with their plant and fruit ferment feedings, produce a product that far surpasses the “organic” standards set by the USDA. The Gnome Grown team utilizes a state of the art Gro Tech Systems light deprivation greenhouse that is automated to the plant’s every need. Once enough sunlight fills the canopy, the lights automatically switch off to reduce energy consumption, and give the plant the natural sunlight that it loves. Beneath the thinned canopy lies multiple layers of active, live soil, that contain nutrients, inoculates, beneficial fungi, predatory mites and cover crop that are essential to creating a biodynamic soil system. When the Leaf team visited, the Gnome crew had just thinned the ladies that were entering week three of flower. The regenerative soil system allows for the stripped leaves to be left on top so they can decompose in the coming weeks and become a vital part of the soils nutrient inputs. Gnome Grown utilizes an IPM program using beneficial bugs and bacteria to keep unwanted pests at bay. Predatory mites are constantly on the prowl throughout the greenhouse thanks to the regenerative soil that allows for their existence. Each plant is hung to dry in a humidor room for multiple weeks before they are placed in the curing room. Gnome Grown Organics flower is available at various OLCC retail locations around the state as the team gets ready to open two dispensaries in Oregon City this June.

Medicated Ice Cream Just in time for summer!
Lumi Treats makes a variety of
medicated ice cream flavors for OMMP patients. Each half pint contains 100mg of THC and more than 100mg of CBD, making this one of the strongest edibles still available at dispensaries. Each flavor is carefully crafted and blended to ensure there is no residual Cannabis taste. Some of the varieties we sampled included, lavender almond, matcha, cookies & cream and peanut butter cup. The half pint came packaged in a childproof cardboard box that has a viewing window allowing consumers to look at the quality of the product before they buy it. I ingested an entire half pint of the matcha flavor, and felt the effects no more than 45 minutes later. The high is relaxing and THE SCORE lethargic, as it made me want to fl avor seep into the couch for the rest va l ue of the evening. There’s a slight e ffe ct energy kick from the matcha, l a be l but not enough to overpower the tota l 18/20 100mg of THC and CBD. Lumi is currently fighting the city of Sherwood so they can produce ice cream recreationally. Look for their products at current OMMP dispensaries until they are OLCC licensed.

Miami Blue Live Resin is the latest flavor to come
out of Claywolf Labs following the recent acquisition of an OLCC processors license. Opening the plastic jar gives an interesting profile that is slightly reminiscent of a vinegar-like smell. The live resin came packaged in a plastic container with a silicone insert. The crumble consistency of the extract made it rather hard to get on a dabber. I took a few low temperature dabs off my quartz nail and wasn’t super impressed with the flavor, as it tastes like it smells. THE SCRATCH & SNIFF of BOOK WEED By SETH MATLINS & EVE EPSTEIN, 2017, 278 PAGES, $19.95

t’s been said that you need to have a gimmick to move product. If that’s really the case, then the authors of this book are sitting pretty. I’ve read a lot of books about Cannabis, but this is the first “scratch and sniff ” one I’ve ever seen. It’s a great concept. The execution, however, proves to be a little tricky. Those beautifully delicate terpenes that we all love so much, which provide so much of the pleasure of a Cannabis high, are extraordinarily difficult to reproduce. That’s probably why, on a chart of 12 marijuana strains, only three have actual scratch-and-sniff panels. For the curious, the three scratch-and-sniff strains are Sour Diesel (not even close), OG Kush (a little better), and Blueberry Kush (closest of the three to the actual weed terpenes). We are presumably left to wonder about the scent of other strains represented on the chart, including such chart-toppers as Green Crack, GS Cookies, Bubba Kush,

CULTIVATION CLAS SIC

Revolution Hall | Portland, OR | May 12, 2017
The Cultivation Classic did an excellent job of focusing on the medical potential of Cannabis beyond the ability of getting high for fun.
T
he best and brightest showed out for the 2017 Cultivation Classic (CC), presented by the Willamette Week and Farma. The CC is “Oregon’s only competition exclusively for OMRI or OMRI-equivalent flower produced in the state without pesticides.” For the second year in a row, I had the honor of judging the flower competition. During the first CC last year, I judged the THC category. This year, I volunteered to judge the CBD and 1:1 entries. I was gifted twelve entries to examine and there was the good, the bad and the ugly. The event itself was hosted at Revolution Hall in east Portland. Not being able to legally consume Cannabis at a Cannabis competition was a supreme bummer. If you want this to change for next year, email your state reps to vote yes on SB 307! We could drink like fishes, but God help us if someone lights up. It was a fun competition, but certainly not ideal… but I’ll stop ranting now. My highlights of the experience were many of the speakers, and Phylos Bioscience’s badass ever-expanding Cannabis galaxy. Although I couldn’t imbibe, I was saturated with new knowledge on Cannabis. I had the pleasure of meeting keynote speaker Ethan Russo, M.D., who spoke on the topic of “Making Cannabis Safer and Better” by moving from always from only focusing THE AMOUNT OF high THC/myrcene strains. Russo said, “I hope RAW TALENT IN THE on that these will serve to influence people’s orientation BUILDING ALONE on Cannabis nomenclature and the future direction of selective breeding away from THC and myrcene WAS MYSTIFYING. dominance toward more varied and therapeutic enWE CAN’T WAIT tourage profiles.” Now that Oregon has moved from TO SEE WHERE WE a quasi-medical program to full-blown adult legalWILL BE FIVE TO TEN ization, the focus on getting as high as possible with YEARS FROM NOW. high THC strains tends to dominate the recreational market. There is a slight emphasis on CBD, but so few people know about the benefits of other cannabinoids beyond THC/CBD. Russo wishes to change this in the future. As a life long medical patient (autoimmune), it was consoling to hear the heavies talk about the importance of moving beyond THC. Russo has written more than fifty articles on Cannabis and pain management, including seven books on Cannabis and other medicinal herbs. What a legend. Despite the recreational market, the Cultivation Classic does an excellent job of focusing on the medical potential of Cannabis beyond the ability of getting high for fun. The amount of raw talent in the building alone was mystifying. I can’t wait to see where we will be five to ten years from now. As for the judging portion, my favorite strain out of the bunch was the Steven Hawking by Cascade High, who also won an Innovation award! It was the most beautiful smoke of all in my humble opinion. My second favorite CBD entry Corazon by Yerba Buena Farms ended up taking first place. Excellent work all around folks! I can’t wait to attend the 2018 competition! Hopefully by then, we can enjoy all of the fruits our beloved Cannabis industry has to offer.

WHY HUMIDITY CONTROL IS CRUCIAL FOR CURING Terpene & Trichome Retention. Studies show a 15% higher terpene and trichome retention when storing cannabis with Boveda rather than without.* Why? Because Boveda creates and holds the ideal moisture content of your cannabis to optimize terpene retention. Reverse Osmosis, Hyperfiltration Membrane. Boveda’s hyper filtration membrane inhibits the passage of impurities, ensuring that your cannabis is exposed to only clean, pure water vapor. Improve Appearance & Aroma. Retaining 15% more trichomes means that your cannabis will look, smell and sell better. Simplified Curing. Boveda’s patented 2-way humidity control ensures that your BOVEDA SIZES

GLASS ART

I am still trying to sort my thoughts on this weekend... After attending a bunch for events over the last 7 years we wanted to do one where everyone involved felt good when they left. From our artist participants to our generous ticket buyers. From the staff who all killed it to the folks who trusted us with their one of a kind property.... I think we did it. I won’t tag anyone because there is no way I could tag everyone who helped make it the gathering it was. I will say that I truly appreciate you all. I got so many REAL heart to heart hugs that I will never forget... In the end we hosted 200+ people from around the nation. We shared meals, we shared cabins. We shared a little pain when our new friends car shattered on the floor. We all shared in the joy after he worked all night long to build an all new car before the race. On Saturday night we dusted off track and ran the cars for the glory. Kenny Hashmouf and previous champ Badger Glass squared up for the final run of the day. With a 3 second run. Kenny took the win over some of the biggest names in the glass game. He was my pick from the the start... After the races we all bellied up for a hot lasagna dinner and the auction. In 2 hours we raised nearly $22k for the kids camp and our partners at the Evergreen State Project. It would have been worth all the hard work if we only got to enjoy each other... Walking away with the large donations is just icing on the cake. I can’t thank all 200+ of you enough for the joy I felt at the end of the night. You all gave me something I can’t buy. The pride I have for our community has filled my heart.

The impact of that knowledge has made the plethora of “all organic” nutrient lines all but obsolete. Another new brand out of California, Greenstone Nutrient provides a bit Newer nutrient formulas seemed to have responded to the trend more of the “traditional” approach to nutrient formulation. and began more specifically producing formulas for hydroponic, Greenstone still adds simplicity to the ethos and openly makes mineral based feeding systems instead of an “all in one, feeds any recommendations to omit certain formulas based on the memedium” marketing. effective system and a wonderful alternative to anyone familiar with General Hydroponics’ two-part formula now that GH is owned by the demon of all human existence, Monsanto. Of particular note are two powders Greenstone makes: Foundation, a well-designed endomycorrhizae product devoid of any ecto which cannot colonize Cannabis roots in a mineral-dense environment as well as Aquafish, powder hydrolyzed fish which is loaded with nitrogen and greens up a plant like almost no other product I’ve used, equaled perhaps only by nitrozyme.
Culture Solutions H20 cch2o.com/cultured-solutions-info
Brought to you by the industry leaders in RDWC systems Cultured Solution runs especially well in RDWC due to its ultra clean, low to no suspension formulas. These features carry over well into other hydroponic mediums. Super simple, Cultured Solutions created a complete A+B Veg as well as an A+B Bloom formula that needs little else. Using nothing but “A” and “B”, depending on vegetative stage or bloom stage and you’ll get great results. The root product is designed specifically for RDWC sterile systems and should only be applied to sterile feeding environments. Since properly balanced microbiologicals are more effective than sterile mediums in just about every other medium scenario, many gardeners will not need to use this product. For those looking to push production further, Cultured Solutions makes a flower boosting formula as well. As someone who tested one of their earlier released nutrient lines, I can tell you from personal experience they listened to feedback from their customers, made adjustment and I’m happy to report, improved their bloom booster formula. In this case, they broke the formula up to account for their already very complete “A” and “B” base bloom as well and the manufacturer’s recommendations for nitrogen application through the flowering schedule. Again, all formulas are concentrated, designed with the hydroponic gardener in mind and run super clean.
Veg+Bloom hydroponic-research.com
Grab your socks and pull. I have found my allaround recommendation for hydroponic gardeners of any medium and any skill level. Read the website name and it’s not hard to figure out what this company is about. It’s about creating the easiest to use formula ever created for Cannabis farmers that
performs outrageously well. You can hear the other nutrient companies just shitting their pants with the advent of a formula like Veg+Bloom. Not only is this nutrient powerful and effective at creating high yields of boutique quality Cannabis but it is inexpensive when compared to any of the other more heavily marketed nutrients available. As a powder, you don’t pay anyone for water and mixing labor, they keep the costs down by providing their formula as a dry powder only. Further, this company saw a need to fill, and stepped up by creating a specific formula of even higher concentration made for those using automated nutrient dosing technology. Their schedule and application recommendations are easy enough to memorize. They offer three products you can apply to medium and a foliar spray. A base that you use in every stage of growth, the whole shebang. I ran a full round with nothing but the base product and was deeply satisfied with the results so when they say it’s complete, they mean it. The base formula can be purchased in a hard and soft water formula to suite the mixture as well as a hydroponic or “dirty” formula, depending on what medium you choose. The bloom booster is called Shine. While using it isn’t imperative to a successful grow, when used during the bloom phase it adds an unmistakable improved layer of frost to your flowers and plumps up yields by double digit percentages; given the simplicity and low cost of their base, I recommend investing some of your savings into Shine, the products kills. Veg+Bloom makes two other products. A foliar spray called Push, which I didn’t use but have heard reports from respected farmers that I should have. My foliar testing was not in a place that provided a space for a new formula at the time that I was running Veg+Bloom. I have since started using it, and while I haven’t completed the test, I can tell you that it appears to be replacing several other products thus far. Lastly, they make a mycorrhizae product called Life, which is designed to run in salt-based nutrient environments and is very effective when using container medium. Again, I cannot speak with a high degree of intelligence of the efficacy of the product having skipped its application, however, I can’t imag-
ine a company that produces so few products, three of which are of the highest performance standards I’ve come across that don’t follow suit with the fourth one. A consistent feature you’ll see with all four of these companies is extensive customer research. Lots of Cannabis farmers have used and reported achieving outstanding results using these nutrient lines. Their strong product support and priority to create a quality product, instead of funding a massive advertising budgets, allows for a higher quality, more consistent, more dependable, more affordable nutrient that supports like-minded human beings. High standards create high hopes for a new age, ushered in by innovators such as those reviewed in this article. Keeping the needs of the users in mind instead of the need of the shareholders provides for an easier to use, more effective product for Cannabis gardeners. As with any new product, I always recommend testing a small number of plants with any new technique or tip to learn how the information fits into your skill set, style and environment; these products are worth the investment to learn. They may suit your particulars to an even higher degree and elevate your game to the next level, or they could maintain your already stellar results but drop your total production costs, both favorable outcomes. Either way, you’ll likely walk away a better gardener from trying them out. If you have specific questions on nutrient applications with these products, don’t hesitate to contact me at DrScanderson@protonmail. com and as always, HAPPY GARDENING!

Early, steady low stress training will assist in creating a structure from which one can form a somewhat feasible indoor plant. Once transitioned to bloom, she can stretch 300 percent or more growing largely spaced internodes that need all but constant training to structure any sort of a productive canopy. She likes nitrogen and calcium through weeks two and three of flower but still is sensitive to high-nutrient concentrations thriving with lower levels. Within about 70 days she will produce medium sized spear shaped nuggets, comprised of tightly stacked calyxs deeply encrusted with resin. This plant prioritizes resin production, smell, taste and potency over structure and yield and with its unruly, often precarious growth pattern and nutrient sensitivities make her suited best for intermediate and advanced gardeners.
