2018
First year path to student success

What is SOAR? SOAR is Summer Orientation Advisement and Registration and, this is your invitation to attend. Attending SOAR is your next step to becoming a Bearcat.
What to expect at SOAR • Make friends • Become familiar with campus • Receive a copy of your fall 2018 class schedule • Review and modify your class schedule accordingly For more information about SOAR, visit www.nwmissouri.edu/admissions/fye/soar/index.htm
Who should attend?
• YOU • Parents, guardian or family members
We have a day full of activities to help your family become familiar with Northwest personnel, the community and the culture. We give them an orientation to campus too, and answer any questions they may have. In addition, at the Student Services Fair, families can meet and talk with staff from student life and student services.
Cost The cost is included in the new student fee applied to your University bill in the fall trimester.

Major Decision
When you register for SOAR, you will be asked to confirm your major. This helps us create your first trimester schedule. If you haven’t decided on a major, that’s okay, too. In fact, many students will tell you that coming to college without a major is a positive experience, and some would even recommend it.
What if I changed my major? • Contact the SOAR team at 800.633.1175, 660.562.1695 or email studentsuccess@nwmissouri.edu. You can also change your major when you register for SOAR.
Unsure of your major? Visit www.nwmissouri.edu/academics/majors.htm for a complete list of our major programs.
Advisement and class schedules We take a proactive approach to advising and registration by pre-scheduling all first-time freshmen. Your class schedule will be customized based on: • Your major and recommendations from your academic major department • Your academic profile: ACT scores and high school transcripts • College credit: AP, IB, dual credit, etc. by fall 2018
