YOUR PLACE TO Transferring credit

Transition

Northwest will accept your transfer credit if: 1. the credit is from a regionally accredited institution 2. the course is not developmental or remedial in nature 3. the course is not designed for vocational/technical credit (unless pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, see page 13). You may transfer an unlimited number of credit hours. However, you must complete at least 30 credit hours at Northwest along with all major & minor requirements.

Admission Requirements • 24 transferrable credit hours • 2.00 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale *Students with fewer than 24 transferrable credit hours must also supply a high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores for evaluation.

Your last 10 credit hours must also be taken through Northwest. For a bachelor degree, you must complete 124 credit hours. We encourage you to work with the Office of Transfer Services as early as possible to help with the transfer process. Not all of your courses will be equivalent to Northwest courses. You may contact Transfer Services via email at transfer@nwmissouri.edu or access transfer guides and equivalencies online by visiting the transfer guide website (see page 13). View your step-by-step transfer admission guide at nwmissouri.edu/admissions/apply/transfer/guide.htm.

Associate degrees If you earn an Associate of Arts degree or 42 semester-hour block from an articulated school (articulated schools are included on the transfer guides page), your Northwest Core general education requirements will be waived, except for your Digital Literacy, Global Experience, and any directed Northwest Core classes for your major. If you earn an Associate of Arts from a non-articulated school, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of General Studies, certificate/diploma, or another type of degree, your courses will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Your degree or 42-hour block must be designated on an official transcript from your transfer college. 12

Transfer guides and articulation agreements Northwest has transfer guides and articulation agreements with over 50 community colleges. We may have a Northwest Core or major-specific transfer guide with your college! These guides do not list all credit Northwest accepts. Visit the transfer guides website (see resources section below) to view equivalencies and transfer guides for your school. If you are looking for something that is not listed, contact Transfer Services at transfer@nwmissouri.edu.

Preregistration and orientation A new student orientation and registration program has been designed specifically for transfer students prior to the start of all sessions. You will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor, register, and become acquainted with Northwest. You will receive an invitation and must sign up to attend. If you are unable to attend a scheduled registration date, you will register for classes during General Registration prior to the start of the trimester.

Joint Admission If you attend Metropolitan Community College – Kansas City, North Central Missouri College, or Southwestern Community College, we encourage you to sign up for Joint Admission. This allows you to experience the benefits of being a Northwest student while earning an associate degree.

Bachelor of Applied Science Disclaimer: This degree was formerly known as the Bachelor of Technology. The change of name to Bachelor of Applied Science is pending MDHE approval.

If you have completed a vocational or technical certificate, an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), or technical Associate of Science (AS) degree, you may be eligible to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree at Northwest. You will be able to transfer vocational/technical coursework from a regionally accredited institution that may not be transferable towards a traditional Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree. Additionally, the curriculum requires fewer Northwest Core courses and allows you to choose an emphasis area in Agriculture, Applied Computing, Child and Family Studies, Food Service, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Technology, Marketing/Management, or Computer Business Applications.
