NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE TO NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY! New Student Orientation and Registration is a program designed to help Transfer or Returning students starting in the Fall or Summer acclimate to Northwest and register for classes. Freshman starting in the Spring also attend this program. (Freshman starting in the summer attend SOAR.) This is your first step in your career as a Northwest college student.
WHAT TO EXPECT SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY 9 a.m. Optional Campus Tour
10 –10:30 a.m. Check In
10:30 – 11:50 a.m. All about Northwest ■■ Services ■■ Campus Life ■■ Your Credit and Degree Audit
12 – 3 p.m. Lunch Advising and Class Registration
(Advising times vary, based on advisor availability. Specific advisement times are provided upon check in, on your orientation day.)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME? We recommend completing and bringing your health history forms with you to orientation. You will also need to have your official final transcripts sent from any institution you previously attended. It’s also helpful to have a list of courses you are currently enrolled in, that may not be listed on your current transcript. We will give you a new “to-do” list at orientation to prepare you for starting at Northwest.
CAN I FIND OUT HOW MY CLASSES TRANSFERRED BEFORE I ARRIVE FOR ORIENTATION?
DURING THE DAY, YOU WILL: ■■ Get oriented to Northwest services and campus life ■■ Receive a copy of your degree audit and a general
overview to prepare you for your advising appointment ■■ Meet with an advisor ■■ Register for classes ■■ Take a photo for your Bearcat card (student ID) ■■ Take a tour of campus, if you choose ■■ Visit other offices, as needed:

REGISTRATION Registering for an orientation day is very easy and all done online. http://www. nwmissouri.edu/admissions/fye/ orientation/signup.htm. Registration deadlines for each orientation day are approximately 2 weeks prior to the event. It’s important to register ahead of time, so we can set up an appointment with an advisor that works with your major.
If Northwest has received an official transcript with your credit, and it’s been loaded in our degree audit system, you can log into your CatPAWS account to view your degree audit ahead of time. If you have questions about how your credit transfers, you can contact our Transfer Services Office at 660-562-1804.
WHAT IF I AM STILL DECIDING MY MAJOR? We have advisors who work specifically with deciding students too. They can help you identify Northwest Core courses that you may still need, and discuss major options.
I HAVE BEEN IN COLLEGE FOR TWO YEARS. IS IT NECESSARY FOR ME TO ATTEND? While you may feel comfortable in your role as a college student, each school has different services and opportunities available to students. Northwest prides itself on providing a challenging yet supportive environment, and we want you to be able to take full advantage of all we offer. Orientation provides a good overview.
WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND ANY OF THE DATES? General registration is an option for students who may live far away or are unable to attend an early orientation for other reasons. General Registration is the Saturday before fall classes begin, or the Friday before Spring classes begin. Each department is represented, and advisors are available to meet with and register students. A short orientation is also offered on that day to help you get oriented to campus and answer any questions you may have. Students who have not registered by the last orientation date will receive more information about attending general registration.
