WHAT’S YOUR

STORY? Are you still deciding between mass media and interactive digital media, pre-medical or pre-dental? It’s ok. That’s what college is for, and at Northwest, you have options. We have 127 programs of study and 150 organizations to consider. But we’re not done, 95 percent of students gain professionbased learning experiences through faculty-student research, internships, study abroad, service learning and more. So, what is your story and how can we help you write your next chapter? “Northwest has truly become my home away from home because of all the true friends I’ve made and the amazing professors who have supported and encouraged me. My advisor is like my “campus mom.” She’s come to events I’ve been a part of and given great advice that has led to major life decisions. The professors in the communication department have really encouraged me to branch out into different areas of communication and everyday they remind me why communication is important.“ — Nikeila Jensen, senior communication and public relations majors

CONNECT TO OUR

CULTURE

ACTIVE

CREATIVE

The new Robert and Virginia Foster Fitness Center opened August 2015. The 19,490 square-feet of open floor space accommodating state-of-the-art cardio and weight lifting machines, a human performance lab and classroom space. The building also houses a specified area for aerobics, spinning, yoga and various fitness courses. A fitness mezzanine housing cardio equipment with windows providing natural lighting overlooks the facility.

Northwest features a variety of vocal and instrumental groups for student performers. Student art is exhibited in the student art gallery. Theatre students become involved in their first trimester in studio, second stage and main stage productions. The Studio Theatre features state-of-theart equipment. Mary Linn Auditorium features a large main stage and seating for more than 1,000 and the Black Box Theatre offers a more intimate setting. More than 83 percent of our students are involved in one or more student clubs. There are 150+ organizations to choose from, ranging from student government and Greek fraternities and sororities to multicultural clubs and academic organizations.

SOCIAL

More than half of the student body participates in intramurals including basketball, flag football, racquet sports and many more. Additionally, our students are active in service learning, alternative spring break and leadership development activities throughout the year.

CHAMPIONS PLAY HERE

We see green at Northwest, and you will too as you cheer on the Bearcats, some of the most competitive student-athletes in all of NCAA Division II. Athletic events (with the exception of playoff games) are free for all students to attend. Fill the stands and show your Bearcat pride. Women’s NCAA sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Men’s NCAA sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, tennis and track and field. “Maryville to me is that storybook college town that everyone gets out and goes to all the sporting events. Students love attending games and meets which gives us athletes that much more motivation to perform at our best. The greatest gift is the ability to come together and become something greater than what we would be by ourselves. We get the opportunity to push each other to become better students, athletes, and people. I love my team and wouldn’t trade it for the world.” — DeAndre Thomas, track and field marketing/management major Gladstone, Mo.
