READY TO
BEGIN? At Northwest, we are on the move. With more than 120 academic programs, our students work to be innovative in their field whether its interactive digital media, nanoscale science, education or marketing. Our more than 150 student organizations energize and connect peers in ways that foster lifelong connections. That’s just the beginning; 95 percent of students gain high quality profession-based learning experiences through faculty-student research, internships, study abroad, service learning and more. With a winning reputation and network of more than 70,000 successful alumni, Bearcats connect in the classroom, on the field and in their career.
“Northwest has provided me with great opportunities for hands-on learning. Being a science major, one of the things I have gotten to do here in just my short two years is work with many of the scientific instruments in the CIE. It’s very advantageous for me to be in a small classroom environment where I can have these opportunities because they are used every day in the field by real professionals. My hands on experiences at Northwest will aid me in such a competitive field.” Morgan Shaw Chemistry: Biochemistry Emphasis major Grandview, Mo.

WHAT IS PROFESSION-BASED
LEARNING? Whatever your passion, we’ve got the faculty and staff members to guide you to succeed in your professional field. Get real teaching time in the Horace Mann Laboratory School or the Phyllis and Richard Leet Center for Children and Families. Pitch your marketing plan for a business in Knacktive or hear yourself on-air at the KZLX radio station. Gain experience in the courtroom through a mock trial or research with area businesses at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Push yourself to new heights on the MOERA ropes course. Through these experiences and opportunities, you will be prepared for a successful career on your first day. “I teach and I care, that is my personal classroom mission statement at Northwest. Students need handson, engaging, and high impact classroom activities that challenge them to be creative and innovative in psychological principles and research to improve quality of life in communities and businesses. We are joined in this adventure of learning with one-on-one conversations to prepare them for the future.” — Dr. Carla Edwards Professor of psychology

CONNECT TO OUR
CULTURE
CREATIVE Our inspired environment is one where students get connected and share their musical talents in a variety of vocal and instrumental groups. The Bearcat Marching band performs to more than 50,000 adoring fans annually. Student artists enrich campus with their artwork, while theatre students perform main stage productions for a packed house in Mary Linn Auditorium.
SOCIAL Bearcats connect with each other through more than 83 percent of students being involved in one or more student clubs. There are more than 150 student organizations to choose from, ranging from student government and Greek fraternities and sororities to multicultural clubs and academic organizations. More than half of the student body participates in intramurals including basketball, flag football, racquet sports and many more. Additionally, our students are active in service learning, alternative spring break and leadership development activities throughout the year.

CHAMPIONS PLAY HERE
At Northwest, we have some of the most driven student-athletes in all of NCAA Division II. We have a proud past and perform strongly against Missouri and national peers. Bearcats connect by filling the stands and supporting our teams. Women’s NCAA sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Men’s NCAA sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, tennis and track and field. “Being an athlete at Northwest is like being a part of a big family. The Northwest athletic family is built up of all the athletes and coaches, athletic staff, students and the community. All of these people support the teams and love them unconditionally. My teammates helped me become the person I am today. After being with them every day, working for the same goals, being friends with the same people while also making friends of my own, helping with issues that come up in life, and also being able to share successes with them I found that no matter what, they pushed me to be the best in all aspects of life.” — Tember Schechinger, Women’s Basketball Ag Business major Manilla, Iowa
