Dog Days of Summer

Editor’s Note: Guess what? You love dogs on deck just as much as we do! Our July issue featuring Mira the Vizsla received rave reviews and lots of double-taps online. (Did you miss the boat? You can read up on her paw-rents’ inspiring work-from-aboard story on our website now, or continue to follow along in real-time on their Instagram handles, @workingreboatly and @vizslasdivas.)

Love the feature - and the cover! Thank you and Doug very much. -Trish Jenkins, Sailing Week in Antigua

Awesome, it’s about time the canines get their rightful place on the covers of magazines! -@mvfreedomseattle

Kate!!!! We LOVE it!! We are posting pictures of Mira and Hala riding the dinghy like that on their Instagram and ours. We are so honored to be featured. -Heather Brewer, proud dog mom

Wonderful article that painted verbally your extraordinary experience. Gratitude was a brilliant name for your boat. -@caroljanelagerman

Love the front cover photo (I SO want to be there with that lucky pooch) and am insanely jealous of all the people who operated reboatly the last couple of years. -Lisa Samuelson

Great photo! -@whitehallrowing [ BACK STORY ]

Chip off the Old Block

Editor’s Note: For this month’s feature on the Squire Shop restoration, I had the honor and privilege to sit down with local hydro racing legend, Chip Hanauer (pictured here in 1979, both on and off duty). And did you know? After he retired from racing, Hanauer produced an amazing series of youtube videos introducing Seattleites to a variety of local boating-related topics. If you are new to Seattle, or new to boating, it’s worth catching up on his “Chip the Boat Guy” videos; though a few years old, they are still chock-full of newsy maritime tidbits and throwback highlights of Seafair events gone by. Catch up at: youtube.com/ user/chiptheboatguy.

Follow Along

Editor’s Note: I’ve been glued to one particular Instagram feed all summer long, @capimovie, as four inspiring young local women recreate Muriel Wylie “Capi” Blanchet’s voyage up the Inside Passage—and chronicle it all. We’ll be featuring the crew’s reflections once they return in the fall, but for now, I’d encourage you to give them a follow and scroll through their adventures when you take a break from your own. Fair winds, ladies!
