There is an old folk expression about March that, to me, has always seemed to ring true for the Northwest—in like a lion, out like a lamb. It’s a mercurial month where you never quite know what you’re going to get when you cast off. Sometimes there’s a beastly breeze a’blowin’, other days dawn softly and sunny; this month’s issue will have you prepared to conquer whatever happens to rule the day.

First up, in our guide found on pages 50-57, you’ll find the latest gadgets to help you get in gear for spring. With everything from innovative tech upgrades and lighting devices to water system solutions, these locally available products are more than worth their salt. We also take a look inside Silverback Marine on pages 44-49. This up-and-coming Tacoma shipbuilder is embracing a collaborative mindset to help churn out their line of tough, strong, and weather-ready aluminum workboats for the marine industry. (Pardon the pun, but I think Ian Gracey and his team are set to become lions within this sector; keep an eye out.)

Speaking of some heady metal, Tom-N-Jerry’s recently welcomed the first Makaira sportfish model to reach North America. Crafted in New Zealand and featuring a distinctive flared aluminum hull, this vessel can cut through any spring chop. Find out more in this month’s Arrivals feature on page 38-39, and don’t miss the stunning Solaris Open 40 available from SeaNet Yachts on the preceding pages (36-37)—the open concept cockpit is just begging you to take the helm on a clear, cloudless afternoon. Mark Yuasa also checks in on the spring salmon fishing prospects (page 64); Randy Woods outlines spring boat shows and area yacht club news in Making Waves beginning on page 23; and, James O. Fraioli has concocted a monstrous cocktail for Sea Fare on pages 72-73.

Cheers to these sweet spring days,
