Solaris 40 Open
Featuring sporty lines and an open cockpit, this brand-new Italian gem could soon be yours through SeaNet Yachts.
The new Solaris 40 Open is just what its name implies: a wide-open design that lets the sun in and allows the breeze to flow across the sleek main deck, save for a plexiglass windshield and a contoured, center-column T-top. A sharp, flared bow, designed by the Brunello Acampora/Victory Design firm, provides a smooth, comfortable ride, without the need for stabilizers, even in displacement mode. The hull shape also reduces drag, thus lowering fuel consumption, extending its range, and reducing CO2 emissions.
The overall look of this Italian-designed gem is sleek and sporty, with few interruptions of its aerodynamic lines. Pop-up cleats, a lack of guardrails on the high bulwarks, and a thru-hull anchor mechanism present an uncluttered walkaround deck, with plenty of space for movement around a central console. Directly under the T-top, the helm includes three padded chairs abreast, with the center chair facing the wheel. The helm controls feature a 7” Volvo Penta navigation screen, an echo sounder, a mileage log, a water temperature gauge, a DST 800 transducer, and a VHF Garmin 210i con DSC.
Just aft of the helm, an open-air, fixed dining table with double stainless steel supports has room for six people on two bench seats, facing fore and aft. The aft cockpit has a wide sunpad for afternoon lounging, situated atop storage lockers; another sunpad/locker combo can also be found on the foredeck. At the stern, a spacious swim platform and stainless steel ladder gives easy access to the water.
Belowdecks, the cabin spaces are lined in light-colored wood paneling, giving them an open and inviting feel. The forward owner’s cabin includes a queen-sized berth, a separate head with a detached shower, an openable porthole, and a ceiling partially covered in vinyl. A second cabin features two twin beds amidships, but they can be removed to provide extra storage space.
The standard engine package for the 40 Open boasts two Volvo V6 280-hp gasoline stern drives, or twin D4 300-hp diesels, that both top out at about 30 knots and have a 20-knot cruising speed. Other beefier diesel options include twin Volvo Penta D6 380- or 440-hp models, capable of 33 to 41 knots flat out.
Boasting a beautiful baby blue hull, this gorgeous model recently made its grand debut at the Düsseldorf International Boat Show in January and is now making its way stateside to SeaNet Yachts just in time for spring cruising.
