LETTER FROM
MARYANNE ROBERTO FINE & DAVID STUDINSKI CO-CHAIRS HERITAGE OF PRIDE, INC. “YOU’RE ACTUALLY FROM NEW YORK CITY?!” A warming moment; one of many. It is an oft-heard reaction to our team’s presence at LGBTQIA+ Prides and conferences the past two years. A simultaneous praise and disbelief that a New Yorker is “actually” promoting the Stonewall 50 / WorldPride NYC 2019 event at a table halfway across the world, or in a state not particularly known for favoring our community.
year NYC Pride funds the painting of a rainbow crosswalk on Christopher Street to celebrate our community and remember Baker through his original eight-color design. The 2019 theme, “Millions of Moments of Pride,” refers to the countless experiences Pride events leave with LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies. Whether your first event, or 49th, Pride celebrations inspire, educate and commemorate our diverse community, leaving each of us empowered to live our lives each day through the year. The theme was simultaneously decided with the logo as a package. By late Spring 2015, these details were cemented. A funny thing happened on the way to Stonewall 50. In October 2015, Heritage of Pride was awarded the bid for WorldPride 2019, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the uprising. WorldPride is licensed by InterPride, an organization internationally comprised of Pride coordinators, of which Heritage of Pride is a founding member. It seemed only fitting to officially designate Stonewall 50 as an international affair. Our WorldPride predecessors, more recently Madrid and Toronto, produced amazing events in each of their great homes. As the months went on, the NYC Pride team was increasingly cognizant of WorldPride’s growing popularity and exposure. The evolved Stonewall 50 logo you see, featuring a complementary “You’re here for us?” Yes, yes we are. It’s a monumental year, after all. The world is coming. We know many travelers are just making plans to join us, and we are beyond excited to welcome millions of our friends in just a few short months. June 2019 is a milestone in our community’s history. It will be 50 years since an uprising, notably led by transgender individuals and people-of-color, that began a modern movement. Knowing the importance of marking this historic occasion, Heritage of Pride (NYC Pride) members first met in July 2009 to discuss “Stonewall 50.” Our members, volunteers and staff are in the final months of nearly a decade of planning. As the 2000s became the 2010s, our organization and events grew. Because of our events’ collective success, we began earmarking a fraction of yearly proceeds to be saved for use in the 2019 season for larger-than-life and discounted or free events. If you purchased a ticket or drink at our events in recent memory, you’ve helped make Stonewall 50 / WorldPride NYC 2019 a reality. Our abstract-rainbow Stonewall 50 logo was approved by committee in 2015. The late Gilbert Baker, creator of the iconic
8
rainbow flag, was among those participating in the logo’s creative process. This year will mark the third consecutive
“WorldPride NYC,” intertwines the international success of WorldPride with the roots of the modern movement. In some regions, Pride is also referred to as “Christopher Street Day,” or CSD for short. New Yorkers know Christopher Street is home to the Stonewall Inn, but around the world not everyone knows the full story of the venue. The 1970 March, commemorating the uprising one year earlier, gave way to an annual event. Together, the events are the inspiration for openly celebrating our community through annual events in cities around the globe. In 2019, those inspired individuals will travel to New York to make their moment where the movement was made. NYC Pride has invested countless hours of volunteer and staff energy to bring the 2019 event season to life - and we can’t wait to share all of the details with you. We hope this Winter edition Pride Guide gives you a glimpse at what’s to come this June. Millions of pride moments await. What will be yours? Back at our promotional table halfway across the world, the enthused Pride-goer grabs their newly gifted official swag and assures us that they, too, will actually be joining us this Summer. “Thanks for being here,” many conclude, smiling ear-to-ear. We look forward to saying the same to you.

LETTER FROM
CHRIS FREDERICK
MANAGING DIRECTOR HERITAGE OF PRIDE, INC.
Growing up in Ohio the holidays were always that time of year filled with endless cheesy casseroles,
anticipating the first substantial snowfall, and driving around the entire town to find a home with the most
outstanding light display. The holidays were also about family. Family that you may not see nearly as much
as you should. Family that all had unique characteristics but common bonds. Family that could make you question the legitimacy of your actual bloodline.
“Am I really related to this person?” Many of us have asked ourselves this question during a spirited conversation after one too many glasses of wine and the third helping of stuffing. In the last two years our political landscape has exposed these divisions more than ever. Feelings, opinions, and rhetoric are nothing new during the holidays but in this new era these emotions still feel raw and exposed. Yet even with our differences we continue to seek commonality. We are idealists at heart. Our desire to seek understanding outweighs the clear divisions that make up our own reality. Even in a world where none of us feel united, we still seek out family. Not everyone is fortunate to have families that accept them for who they are. Over 42% of youth say the community they live in is not accepting of LGBTQIA+ individuals. I’ve been very fortunate to have a mother and a father that continue to support my identity, my husband, and my pursuit in creating the largest LGBTQIA+ event in the world. Our community has always sought out others that share in our lived LGBTQIA+ experience. We gravitate to those that understand us. Those that can relate to the shared experience of what it means to be LGBTQIA+ in Trump’s America. Pride has always felt like the holidays to me. That one time of year that brings together our collective LGBTQIA+ family to celebrate our common connection. Holiday dinners are replaced with the legendary afternoon brunch where mimosas substitute eggnog as the drink for the season. Instead of a jolly old man dressed up in a red and white outfit we find ourselves adoring fierce men in six-inch heels dressed as our favorite female pop stars. While not connected through blood, one could argue that in some ways our bond is stronger. This family we’ve created, with varied lived experiences, all can connect through the common bond of wanting to be loved. Love is what unites us. Love is what motivates us. Love is what defines us. As we reflect on this journey towards the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, we will look back at what our family has accomplished, what we’ve lost, and what still needs to be achieved. When deciding on if Heritage of Pride should host WorldPride in 2019, there was never a question of IF we should do it but rather HOW we should do it. We knew this was a historic moment we needed to be a part of. One that not only will bring together those that have worked tirelessly to achieve full equality, but one that unites the world. A singular moment in time that will define generations to come. Within six months the world will descend upon New York City for the largest gathering of LGBTQIA+ individuals in history. 50+ events. 4 million+ people. A one-of-a-kind experience. While we know our differences remain, we will be drawn to the origins of where this family began. At a bar called the Stonewall Inn, where a singular night defined a generation. A spark that had ripple effects around the world. We honor this moment

Long lines swarm behind this popular food vendor every weekend at the Queens International Night Market. They also serve up their authentic Burmese cuisine at Court Square Park in Long Island City. LGBTQIA+ UPRISINGS AROUND THE WORLD From as early as the AD period to present day, uprisings were a way of opposing the majority, disrupting corrupt systems, and lending collective voices to change history’s narrative.
LGBTQIA+ uprisings within our history are no different. Along with the Stonewall Uprising, we are highlighting riots that have brought on significant change to our community.

HOLIDAY CUSTOMS, HOLIDAY CHEER Perhaps its Mariah Carey’s “Merry Christmas” album that croons over the ambient speakers of your cozy one-bedroom abode. Or the anticipation of the aroma that leaps through the kitchen of your favorite relative’s homespun kitchen. Their infamous macaroni and cheese? One for the record books.
This time of year brings along familial traditions, religious customs, and festive superstitions. In preparation
for the good ol’ holiday spirit, here are some quick historical facts and new year’s traditions learned from around the world.

WHAT IS KWANZAA?
Coined by Dr. Maulana Karenga, professor and chairman of Black Studies at California State University in 1966, Kwanzaa was created to bring people of African descent together in the name of community. Kwanzaa’s name is derived from the Swahili phrase, “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits.” Karenga combined traditions from the Ashanti and Zulu tribes to form what is now known as the harvest celebration of Kwanzaa. Although the celebration of Kwanzaa differs between families, certain principles of storytelling, large familial NEW YEAR’S SUPERSTITIONS LUCKY FOODS: PORK-—MOVE FORWARD INTO THE NEW YEAR, BLACK-EYED PEAS-—GOOD LUCK AND FINANCIAL GOOD

While customs vary, the root of the holiday is to celebrate the belief that God entered the world in human form to atone for humanity’s sins. Christmas is a time largely centered around family and joy. Some of the largest Christmas constants are giving gifts and decorating a Christmas tree, but there are several more practiced by families that hold significance for this holiday.
ADVENT CALENDAR Completing an Advent calendar to count down the days until Christmas is a popular way to drum up
enthusiasm for the holiday. Many Advent calendars include pockets for candy so that you can wake up to one piece of candy each day for the month leading up to Christmas.
CHRISTMAS MUSIC A heavily contested topic, Christmas music starts playing in some places as early as October.
Some folks feel strongly that Christmas music should not have a place anywhere prior to Thanksgiving. Others begin blasting their favorite Christmas songs the second they feel that they can get away with it. Along with playing holiday tunes prior to Christmas comes caroling. Traveling around the neighborhood singing with friends is a typical way to spread cheer in this season.
STAYING UP TO SEE SANTA The anticipation of Christmas
Commonly known as the festival of lights, Hanukkah spans
candles each night of Hanukkah in a candelabrum called a hanukkiah, which has nine candle holders—one for each night of the holiday and one for the shamash, the helper candle used to light the rest. Lighting the candles is a core family tradition of Hanukkah, but there are a few more fun ones that are staples in many households:
LATKES Hanukkah classic, these potato pancakes are
typically served with either applesauce or sour cream. People tend to feel very strongly about which topping is the better choice, so it’s a fun and silly holiday debate.
SUFGANIYOT These jelly-filled donuts are topped with
powdered sugar. They’re fun to make as a family and a delicious sweet treat. Like latkes, they are fried in oil to remember the miracle of Hanukkah.
DREIDEL This popular Hanukkah game is played by spinning a four-sided top and noting where it lands. Each side
represents an action an player will take after their turn based on the number of coins in the pot. The options are to take the whole pot, take half, put one back, and do nothing. You can also play with gelt, chocolate “coins” wrapped in gold foil, to bring another Hanukkah classic into the game.

Rapper Fabolous perpetuated the phrase, using it as a title to one of his tracks on Soul Tape 3. So it’s pretty evident that the cuffing season phenomena IS actually happening through the work of memes and good ol’ oral tradition. But what are the internal factors that fuel the desire to be ‘boo’d up’? I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Bukky from Relationship HQ who gave much insight. movement forward. One herald of equality that needs mention is Melissa Etheridge. This Grammy and Academy award winning singer/songwriter strummed her way out of the closet publicly in the early 90’s, a time where most didn’t ask and certainly didn’t tell. She chose to live out loud despite the era and in doing so, she unknowingly became a symbol of hope for so many that wanted to live equally as loud. As we as a community galvanize to remember the events of June 28, 1969, it would have been a miss to not invite Melissa to join us in our celebration. Not only is she an icon, but she is also celebrating an anniversary of her own; the release of her iconic album “Yes I Am.” The record, which brought us hits like, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window” has always been rumored to be her official coming out, but there is much more to the story. Recently, Melissa welcomed us into her home where we got to learn more about her, check out her impressive guitar collection which includes a rainbow mosaic guitar her daughter had custom made for her and chat about her performance at 2019's WorldPride Closing Ceremony in Times Square.

HAVE YOU EVER ATTENDED NYC PRIDE? No! But my daughter has. This is my first New York City Pride. I’ve been to Pittsburgh Pride, Toronto, L.A. many times, but not New York. I’m just thrilled beyond thrilled to be a part of this in such a big way.
WHAT DOES PRIDE MEAN TO YOU? Pride used to be a naughty word, a bad word. We weren’t supposed to be prideful. Now, when I look at the word “pride,” it is reclaiming a piece of ourselves. It is standing up and saying, “I’m grateful for the way my creator made me, and for that I am proud.”
WHAT SHOULD WE REMEMBER ON THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STONEWALL UPRISING? We have to remember that there was a time when your love was considered a crime, and that wasn’t that long ago… that there was a breaking point that began at the Stonewall Inn. Night after night of police raids and beating up of the patrons hit a point where they lost their [minds] and they said we’re setting the place on fire. It was the last straw.
CAN YOU TELL US THE STORY BEHIND YOUR COMING OUT AND THE RUMORS THAT YOUR “YES I AM” ALBUM WAS HOW YOU DID IT? I had been on my path as a musician for a while. I was already out to my family, to my friends, to the people I worked with, to the people at the record company. If you knew me you knew I was a lesbian, but there was this unspoken rule of “don’t ask, don’t tell” in publicity. It was a different time; there was no social media, so if you wanted to say something you had to go through the reporters. I kept thinking someone was going to ask me. It was obvious if you looked up where I was signed - the Que Sera, a lesbian bar in Long Beach, but no one ever asked. I was going to come out publicly, and I thought I would do it on Arsenio Hall or something later that year. But doing all the work for Clinton/Gore, it was so inspiring to be with all the people at the Triangle Ball that I just came out. I had originally written the song “Yes

WHETHER IT WAS YOUR COMING OUT OR NOT, THE ALBUM MEANT SO MUCH TO SO MANY, WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE LIKE AT THAT TIME? Beautiful. Even twenty-five years later. I get people from age 60 to 25 saying, “You helped me be who I am.” I would never regret a moment of it...not a moment.
THE ALBUM RELEASE WAS RIGHT AROUND THE TIME OF STONEWALL 25, DID THE MAGNITUDE OF THAT WEIGH ON YOU? Oh I felt it! The beginning of the 90’s was a very, very pivotal strong moment in the LGBTQ movement. For the first time a presidential candidate said gay and lesbian. We had never heard those words spoken on the television. By doing so he included us as a part of America. It was groundbreaking. So, understanding that twenty-five years before that our brothers and sisters had been rioting, taking to the streets and participating in civil disobedience.
YOU ARE OFTEN LAUDED FOR YOUR BRAVERY, COMING OUT IN A 90’S AMERICA. WHAT DID IT FEEL LIKE TO YOU AT THE TIME? WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE NOW, LOOKING BACK? It was the perfect coming together of so many things. It was a record that resonated with the people at the time. “Come to My Window” just

at the time. Sure, I remember it being a little scary at first. I thought I’d get a lot of backlash, but other than getting picketed at a few places I didn’t really have much push back. On the strength of my music I was able to ride this extra wave of publicity I got for being gay. It was a perfect storm.
HOW DO YOU THINK WE HAVE EVOLVED AS A SOCIETY SINCE THE RELEASE OF YES I AM? There is a beautiful evolution that has come from the strength of community and being who you are. Secrets have power. So when you are not

That young people can say, “I’m gay,” and they can now look to all the queer folk succeeding in entertainment, sports, theatre, business...everywhere. To see the reflection of yourself in society, that in itself, changes everything. My generation had to create it. We did it with our friendship, we did it by encouraging each other. I love when a young person comes up and says, “Thank you. You’ve given me someone to look up to.” It just means the world.

It is about people coming out, and speaking about being a cannabis user, what it does for you and getting rid of stereotypes. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? My new album! It is going to mastering soon, so if there is anything I want to change I gotta do it now. We listen to a lot of soul music, R&B, rap. I have twelve year old kids, so we like Drake, J. Cole and Travis Scott, but we also listen to the “Greatest Showman” soundtrack.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SONG? That is really hard. It’s like asking do you have a favorite raindrop, but usually what comes to mind is Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”

WHAT IS YOUR WISH FOR NEW ARTISTS THAT ALSO HAPPEN TO BE LGBTQIA+?
ARTIFACTS WHY BLACK AND WHITE?
It’s simple. It’s not distracting. I say it’s simple, but at the same time it’s very
complex. If I were to paint with colors, I could throw a lot of pretty colors onto a canvas and your brain will get it. Your brain will tell you where to look. It’s the instinct nature that we have. With black and white, you don’t tell anyone where to look. Several people could look at the same drawing, at the same time and start at different places.
YOU DON’T DRAFT OR STRATEGICALLY PLAN, HOW DID YOU GET HERE? A LOT OF US PLAN IN ORDER TO AVOID MISTAKES AND YOU SEEM LIKE YOU WOULD JUST EMBRACE THE MISTAKE. A lot of my work is a practice of listening to yourself. To quote my

work in general was that we’ve always had a social justice approach to our services. It’s not like we’re coming to save somebody; we don’t claim we can save you. Rather, we focus on the individual to build trust with them so we can provide resources and services. to help our youth transition. We try not to be punitive. We try to come from a place of understanding because they’ve already been through the system, so they are expecting a punishment as a result instead of someone sitting with them and talking it through.
WHAT IS STREETWORK’S APPROACH TO ADDRESSING THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF HOMELESSNESS AMONG YOUTH? We look at social work with an anti-oppression lens. We look at the role society plays in perpetuating poverty, racism, homophobia and violence. We talk about racism, how it shows up in the work that we are doing and how we are helping people access our services. It is not coincidental that nationwide, young people of color make up a disproportionate amount of youth dragged through the system. Domestic violence transcends all race and social class but people of color are more likely to be taken away and placed in the system when it happens in the home. We talk about those disparities in the system. We also take a look at us as staff showing up to do the work; what are we as staff bringing into that process. All of that is tied into the
One of the restrictions [New York City] had in the past was that only youth under the age of 21 could go into their crisis shelters. The drop-in centers where not as strict with the age limit, but the crisis shelters did not provide services for those who were past the age of 21. Now we know that at the age of 21, young people still need a bit more time and support and cannot be considered full grown adults. Safe Horizon has advocated for them to raise the age which they did this year. They set aside some funding for beds that would go towards young people between the ages of 21 and 24.
CAN YOU SHARE A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR OUTREACH EXPERIENCE? Often times in the work, I wonder, “What is the impact?” And I’ve found that in our graduation ceremonies, the memorable moment is when they say that they found a family. you’ve made an impact. You know you did something good advice or just general guidance.
Support groups are essential for building positive youth development and building self-esteem. We find this even identified woman. And even though I am a lesbian, there is still privilege because of my cisgendered identity. Having that privilege allows me to fit into society. So you have trans youth who are constantly asking, “Well, where do I fit in?” They are told that they are against nature in every way. Many of our trans female clients have issues with self-esteem and struggle with being able to pass. It’s good to have a community where trans folks can come together and share. We have these resources and know-how to create a safe space for them to talk about their issues because we have trans staff to facilitate those conversations. It’s really about finding community and connectedness.
HOW HAS THE LANDSCAPE OF HOMELESSNESS AMONG YOUTH CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED WORKING AT SAFE HORIZONS IN THE ‘90S? Youth are still homeless, that has not changed, but these are not young people who have homeless written all over them. It’s not like it used to be per se. We used to walk the streets around 42nd Street-Times Square, actually see young people out there, because of how the environment was at the time. Are young people still trading sex for a place to stay? Yes. We call it “couch-surfing.” They may

CHELY WRIGHT
SANTA WILL FIND YOU
Whether old or new, the songs of the season play a pivotal role in the soundtrack of our lives. LGBTQIA+ Country star Chely Wright provides some of the best storytelling anyone could wish for in her first Christmas album Santa Will Find You. Chely teamed up with producers Jeremy Lister and Dustin Ransom to create a piece of work that was personal, yet universal. “I hope that this music will be the soundtrack for folks as they celebrate traditions they cherish and as they make new memories for years to come,” says Wright. Chely’s music narration is an unparalleled guide for a walk down memory lane that is so relatable, it can be anyone’s Christmas story. While the title track was written with her twin boys George and Everett in mind, she sings a quiet, lullaby-like song that wraps all in reassurance that no one will ever be forgotten. For members of the LGBTQIA+ community,
HOLIDAY ALBUMS CURATING YOUR HOLIDAY PLAYLIST
sometimes home for the holidays is not an option; Chely softly whispers, “You should know that you aren’t alone.” This album is rich with personal influences, even down to the cover art. “I hope this record speaks to the fullness of my life. I am very overtly and proudly a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and just like each record I make, each show I do, each speech I may be asked to deliver ... I hope that this project stands firmly and distinctively in my body of work and contributes to the mosaic of who I uniquely am as an LGBTQ artist.” Add this to your list of favorite Christmas albums, and swing by City Winery on December 21 to see Chely live.

HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT IN NYC
THE METROPOLITAN OPERA PRESENTS THE MAGIC FLUTE
Now a holiday tradition, Julie Taymor’s beloved production of Mozart’s enchanting fairy tale returns in its abridged, English-language version for families. This production of The Magic Flute is the sole English rendition produced by The Metropolitan Opera annually, and will be running from December 19, 2018, through January 5, 2019. The Magic Flute tells the story of Tamino, a prince who must undergo a series of tests, accompanied by his goofy sidekick Papageno, in order to marry the princess Pamina. Alongside the priest Sarastro, Tamino, Papageno, and Pamina battle Pamina’s mother, the evil and mysterious Queen of the Night.
As the end of the year fast approaches, it’s time to start picking up tickets to some of New York
City’s favorite holiday traditions and the latest live performances within our community.

This year’s presentation will be conducted by Harry Bicket. Soprano Erin Morley, last seen at the Met as a brilliant Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, is the empowered Pamina, and tenor Ben Bliss is the valiant Tamino. Baritone Nathan Gunn is the comic birdcatcher Papageno, and soprano Kathryn Lewek reprises her hair-raising rendition of the malevolent Queen of the Night.

This limited holiday engagement will run from December 13 through December 30, 2018.

Narratives are now moving into established worlds of queer culture, so outsiders can become the norm. Most can be found on FanFiction.net and Archive of Our Own (Ao3). In an informal survey, Ao3 gender census showed 80% female, 4% male, and 14% falling under genderqueer, trans, and androgyny/agender.1 With a healthy percentage not falling into gender normative labels, we can start to see the importance of fanfiction to the queer community, who are

The ideas of characters in fanfiction can bleed into the reality of how we view these characters, and now fanfiction cannot be excluded from character discourse. Author Jo Chiang advocates for fan fiction as a way to address the disappointments and isolation that marginalized audience members encounter. In her words to Slate magazine, “people write fan fiction partly out of love, but also partly out of a deep dissatisfaction with what is available. Fan fiction is an incredibly transformative approach to literature. It is both appreciative, but also irreverent. Fan writers, by taking an established canon and shaping it, twisting it, remolding it, are challenging authorial intent and taking a swipe at the assumption of authority and dogma.”3 There is an instinct to “fix it” when our favorite characters are killed or given the short end of

I think the way that people have responded to the fact that you can be a trans dad and that the goth dad is also trans has been really heartwarming, because I can only think of a handful of other games that deal with that issue delicately, “ Gray continued. The game’s broad success seems to be multiple storylines in the queer narrative. The writing allows self-exploration and safe expressions of queer identity that is reflecting mainstream appeal. And thus continues the creative loop of fanfiction expressing itself from mainstream storylines, creating alternatives that affect the narrative and push our characters deeper and further than commercial writers are able to explore. INTERPRIDE FEATURE
A LOOK AT INTERPRIDE With the world joining us in June 2019, it’s time to
take an inside peek at the organization that makes it all possible: InterPride. BY ARIEL SAUL Founded in 1982 in Boston, MA and originally titled the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators, InterPride is responsible for supporting Pride organizers on an international scale. As members of InterPride, those organizers produce Pride events globally for members of the LGBTI and emerging sexual identity communities. InterPride educates, empowers, and supports its member organizations by promoting them, uniting them, and elevating their community interaction. Each year, InterPride holds an Annual General Meeting & World Conference in a different location. Attendees participate in workshops and discussions about LGBTQIA+ issues and Pride planning strategies. What began as a networking event for US Pride organizations quickly expanded to include Mexico, Canada, and the UK by the late ‘80s. Another ten years and the conference included 18 countries. Since then, InterPride has expanded greatly and now includes 275 Pride organizations in total. 2018’s AGM & World Conference was in Saskatoon, Canada and 2019’s will be in Athens, Greece.
Currently, there are several InterPride leaders who are also involved with NYC Pride year-round. J. Andrew Baker, Co-President of InterPride (elected in 2018), attends NYC Pride General Membership and committee meetings throughout the year. Alan Reiff, Co-Chair of the InterPride WorldPride Committee and Region 6 Director, volunteers on multiple NYC Pride committees. Sue Doster, Co-Chair of the InterPride Restructuring Working Group, currently sits on the Executive Board of NYC Pride as the Governance Director. Michele Irimia-Bernabe, Secretary of InterPride (elected in 2018), is a member of NYC Pride and volunteers for multiple events yearly. Perin Hurewitz, Co-Chair of the InterPride Alumni Committee, is a long time member of NYC Pride and volunteers for multiple events yearly as well. Pride organizations, networks, and partners are welcome to join InterPride by registering on the website. Visit interpride.org/page/membership to see the guidelines for joining and membership levels within InterPride. InterPride, 2018.
InterPride holds the important responsibilities of licensing the title WorldPride and selecting both an international Pride theme and the city that hosts WorldPride. Pride organizers are welcome to put in a bid for their city and InterPride’s WorldPride committee helps bidding organizations with their proposals. The WorldPride committee can also advocate for a bid’s acceptance or denial. Once a bid is accepted, the and ensures that the host fulfills its contract.
