Hey Division 21 Elephants!

It's finally June and school is out!! So excited to start my summer, and what a better way to start it than with creating my newsletter for Key Club! Additionally, happy pride month and I hope you guys are able to relax since school is finally ending.

Welcome to the third newsletter- for the month of June! I hope that most of your clubs have held elections by now, since in September it gets busy with the Election Report Form and gathering information. And most of our clubs don't hold summer Key Club events...but we should strive to hold them in the future as Key Club expands within out division! I will still be reaching out to your club and keep in touch even in the summer months.

Keep up those last fundraisers, service projects and more! And create some service events if possible in the next couple of months. Community service does not stop in the summer! There are so many things that we can do over the summer to still help our communities. There will be service spotlights that you can check out for the month of June-gather some ideas maybe! And same as always, if you have ANY questions and concerns, please reach out to me. Here for you in service and care! My phone number is 315-880-5957. And that's it for my June greeting!

Greetings!

UPDATES!

I hope you have had a great Key Club service year so far. In the month of June, there have been some promotions/announcements going on.

As you all have probably heard of, New York District Key Club members have a chance to attend the International Convention in early July, in Anaheim, California. Key Club is preparing for ICON, with spirits, themes, workshops and more! Maybe next year we'll have more people attend? I really hope so.

Additionally, during the month of June, the District Committees have chosen their District Committee Member Representatives from different divisions in New York, and the committees have been holding meetings to discuss their plans for the new service year in respective committees.

And that is pretty much it!

If you have questions at any time-please reach out!

315-880-5957

DISTRICT ENDORSED PROJECTS

The Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation is an organization that helps those who suffer from Lyme Disease, focusing on children who are impacted. Lyme Disease is caused by bacteria that is usually transmitted by the deer tick. Medical treatment for children is very expensive, and this support organization is funded through donations from Kiwanis Clubs and individuals. Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center

The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center is a clinic located in Long Island, New York that is dedicated to serving unique care for children in extreme situations (e.g. trauma injuries).

Trauma takes the lives of 25,000 children each year and leaves another 120,000 children permanently disabled. And an estimated 25% of these deaths and disabilities could be prevented with proper and prompt care. Kiwanis helps to provide treatment as to meet the needs of families with children suffering from trauma (e.g., transportation). It also serves a number of other functions, such as outreach to parents and educational programs. It is a Kiwanis-Hospital association that was created in order to provide the funds and staff necessary to create a trauma center with extensive medical assistance and safety.

18

COLLEGEWISE

Collegewise is an organization that helps identify the college that’s right for you, assists with the application process, and provides tutoring for ACT/SAT exams. Liverpool High School Key Club: Middle School Semi Formal Volunteering06/16/2023

Key Club Members helped out at a local middle school by chaperoning at their school semi formal.

"On Friday, June 16, three Key Club members were chaperones at the Soule Road Middle School 8th Grade Semi-Formal Dance for two hours. When there are not enough parents to chaperone, Key Club is asked to help. We gladly serve our school community and serve it in various ways. We (Saber Hassan, Jenna Hayes and Riley Moyer) were all able to have some fun while chaperoning for the local middle school. It was so fun being able to serve our community with people we know, and looking back at semi-formal, it was a great experience that all 8th graders should be able to enjoy-at least one dance during their middle school years before they enter high school. Key Club is all about helping out, and we are very glad to have the opportunity to step up and assist in making their semiformal dance possible, as there weren't enough parents to chaperone. It was a fun volunteer opportunity and we can’t wait to do more with Key Club for our community! The two hours was for a great cause-the middle school semi-formal dance!"

“A really fun event I went to recently was watching the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Movie at Alpine Cinemas on 6/17/23. I had a really good time watching the movie with my friends. We got the luxurious experience of being a Key Club member, as we got our own section with caution tape. We got popcorn and drinks set up for us, and the station set up with the Spiderman poster inside was very cool. The artwork was really well done on the poster, it was really eye-catching. The movie had a really good plot and animation and was very interesting. I hope to have more movie events in the future :) The Spiderman Movie Fundraiser Event was a huge success, and as Key Club members, we were able to not only enjoy the new movie but help out our community, since the money raised fundraiser went to a great cause-the District Project Children's Research Hospital!”

DIVISIONALMEETINGRECAP

On Thursday, June 8th, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, I had held my first divisional meeting! Our Kiwanis Committee Representative, presidents from 4 clubs- Liverpool, Fayetteville-Manlius, JamesvilleDewitt and Nottingham and a club treasurer was able to attend the meeting. I was able to teach them more about Key Club in general, give district updates and reminders regarding filling out forms such as the MRF, ERF and FRF. I had also invited former LTG Yanisa Chai to give a little speech about the importance of Key Club! Each president of a club was able to give a little summary on what their club has done during the year. Near the end, we completed an online service project with Free Rice, and played some games like Skribbl.io to get to know each other better. In the meeting, everyone was able to share their goals for the service year!
