Do, Make, Innovate What you do outside of class helps prepare you for success. Learn by doing and get involved in faculty research, student competitions, and volunteer opportunities. In recent years, students have built solar bikes, traveled around the world to help communities, developed apps with blockchain technology, researched cures for heart disease, won corporate challenges, and more. Compete With Your Peers

Do Research

Academic challenges, exhibitions, and competitions give you the chance to shine. Whether our students are winning the world championships in robotics competitions like VEX or collaborating on resilient design ideas for New York City with architecture students in Italy, they are making names for themselves long before they graduate.

New York Tech is your laboratory. Working with faculty experts, students participate in National Science Foundation and other funded research projects, such as preventing cybercriminals from hijacking smart cars and finding ways to fight back against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Other research networks include the Research Experience for Undergraduates program, the Advanced Research Core program, and annual SOURCE (Symposium of University Research and Creative Expression).

Volunteer Participate in annual events like Relay for Life or international service trips to give back to communities in your backyard and around the world. Recent trips have brought students to Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

Create and Invent If something doesn’t exist yet, create it. Our Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center is home to a New York State certified business incubator. This state-of-the-art business and research facility allows students and faculty members to collaborate with local companies on their latest research and projects.

Our faculty have received unprecedented funding from national agencies and our own internal sources. Examples of recent research include: U sing robotic devices to improve lives. Developing motion capture techniques that support new media, health care, sports medicine, and more. VIRTUAL LEARNING

A Leader In Educational Technology: Flexible, Accessible, Resource-Rich, and Student-Friendly. The unexpected pivot to a “virtual everything” in response to the global pandemic provided an opportunity for the New York Tech community of students, faculty, and staff to demonstrate their creativity, adaptability, and technological capabilities. In one survey, 80 percent of students reported satisfaction with New York Tech’s virtual learning environment. Our trained and tech-savvy faculty are committed to continually honing their online and in-person teaching skills and toolkits to offer students in all majors a top-notch experience as part of their New York Tech education.

Annual events held in virtual environments engaged students and professors, and provided access to new and larger audiences. The virtual space encouraged collaboration and multimedia at New York Tech’s Digital and Animation Film Festival, the School of Health Professions’ Aletheia Research Symposium, and the Student Business Plan Competition, among other research, design, and final critiques and presentations.

RECENT VIRTUAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES: introduced E.R.R.S.E.L.A.—not just We a robot that can speak, play music, and answer questions, but also a philosophy and a virtual collaboration tool. Students from all majors can work from any location to design elements, capabilities, and software intelligence through a unique application programming interface (API). Architecture students piloted new estimating software in remote instruction to analyze their construction document models and generate cost estimates. Based on the success of this pilot, the Building Information Modeling-based curriculum will now be used in several courses at New York Tech. o fulfill their lab requirements, T undergraduate life science majors focused on weekly scientific and objective reviews of COVID-19-related topics, including one assignment where students studied and evaluated data on hydroxychloroquine and the trials using it to treat COVID-19.

First-year students are considered for scholarships based on the strength of their applications. Students who apply to New York Tech without SAT/ACT scores will be eligible for scholarships. Students are awarded the President’s Scholarship, Theodore K. Steele Memorial Scholarship, Merit Scholarships, and Academic Achievement Awards.

Transfer Scholarships

Transfer students qualify if they have earned a minimum of 24 credits from an accredited college. We partner with Suffolk County, Nassau County, and Westchester Community Colleges to offer increased award amounts to graduates. Readmitted students are not eligible.

Entering graduate students may qualify for this scholarship if they have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and a minimum 79 TOEFL IBT, 6.0 IELTS, 53 Pearson PTE, or 105 Duolingo score.All students must be fully accepted without academic conditions.

STEM DESIGNATION Many New York Tech degree programs are STEM designated, giving international F-1 students eligibility for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension (beyond the 12-month PostCompletion OPT) to work in the U.S. in an area related to their area of study.

These scholarships were offered to the incoming classes for fall 2021 and spring 2022. Scholarship amounts are subject to change. First-year scholarships are renewable for four years of continuous undergraduate study. Transfer scholarships are renewable for three years or six semesters of continuous undergraduate study. Each scholarship has a required minimum GPA recipients must maintain for renewal.

Pathway Program Have you had trouble getting the test scores you need to be admitted into the college degree program of your choice? Have you scored at least a 5.0 on the IELTS, 41 on the TOEFL iBT, 36 on the Pearson PTE, or 70 on Duolingo? If so, you qualify for the Pathway Program! Offered by the English Language Institute, the program provides international students who need additional English language skills the opportunity to take both English and academic courses. Upon completion, you will be admitted directly to your degree program; you will not need to reapply.

Your application will automatically be reviewed for admission to the Pathway Program. If you meet the requirements and are admitted to the program, you will be assigned to one of three levels. You will take 18 hours of English classes per week in addition to three academic credits that correspond to your proficiency level. Depending on your proficiency level, you can complete the Pathway Program in as little as one semester.
