1987 yearbook

Page 1

This year's issue of CAVEAT EMPTOR is only the third since New York Law School has had a yearbook. We hope that we have been succesful in capturing some of the more inspirational moments as well as trigger some happy memories both now as you look through this book as well as in years from now when this book is taken down from some shelf or found in an attic.

is a significant year. Ours is the 95th graduating class from New York Law School, only 5 years short of the lOOth graduating class milestone. Additionally, 1987 marks the 200th birthday of the Constitution of this great country of ours. This yearbook is proudly dedicated to the bicentennial of the Constitution of the United States and to those people who worked to make this country what it is. 1987

The Legal Association for Women seeks to involve the entire Law School community in considering the role and potential of women in the legal profession. L.A.W. believes the legal community will benefit if it enables the talents of all of its members to flourish. It urges women to seek positions of responsibility and leadership. In addition to the traditional roles of family and juvenile law, women are encouraged to move into fields such as corporate, litigation, international, and tax law. In addition to speakers and workshops sponsored by L.A.W. programs proposed for 1985-1986 include the annual symposia entitled Women and the Law Today and Women in the Law Tomorrow. The former, held during fall semester, usually focuses on substantive issues of law. The latter, held during spring semester, targets male dominated areas where women have yet to make a substantial impact. L.A.W. is affiliated with the New York Women's Bar Association. The National Lawyers Guild is an association of lawyers, legal workers, and law students. Guild members represent various political perspectives, but stand united in recognizing that human rights are more sacred than property rights. Beyond our various activities, such as bringing speakers to the School and sponsoring symposia and debates, we attempt to provide a supportive atmosphere for progressive students. We understand that it is difficult to study law in New York, when in recent times the government in Washington has shown such a callous disregard for legal traditions, particularly in the fields of civil rights, labor law and international relations. We invite all students to work with us to utilize the law as a means toward greater social justice.
