Ashley Gerasimovich Interview by Carol Wright | Photos by Michael Creagh

When did you fall in love with acting? I filmed my first movie called “Fair Game” when I was 5-years-old. I played Sean Penn and Naomi Watt's daughter. This was a brand new experience for me and I loved every minute being on set and working with the cast and crew. I knew then that acting was my passion, and I’ve continued ever since.

You’ve been working on The Detour since you were 10. How has The Detour impacted your childhood? My childhood sure has been interesting since I've started filming The Detour! Each season we film in a different city. I loved filming in Atlanta, New York (my hometown), Calgary, and Vancouver. It's been so great to see all the different cities. I make sure to keep in touch with my friends while I'm away, and we have a tutor on set for school. I've really loved working on the show all these years

What drew you to The Detour and your character Delilah? I auditioned for The Detour when I was 10-years-old. I just loved how sassy Delilah was and what she could get away with (things I could never get away with saying or doing in real life). I like being able to play a character that’s very different than I am. It’s so much fun!

Season 4 of The Detour is all about the Parker family searching for Delilah. How did it feel to have the spotlight on your character this season? It's pretty cool being the focus of Season 4 of The Detour. I love that Jason [Jones] had faith in me to base the story line around my character. Season 4 has so many twists and turns, I think all the characters get their turn having the spotlight on them too. Everyone has to watch and see!

What has working on The Detour taught you about the industry? I've developed my skills a lot while working on The Detour. I've learned so much from working with Jason, Natalie and all the other actors too. Watching them has taught me so much. I've also learned a lot about directing, I work with really great directors.

Do you have a favorite episode you’ve shot? One of my favorite episodes is actually in Season 4! It's the episode when they find out what Delilah's been up to while she's been gone. My other favorite episode is from Season 2 when I sang "It's Fun Being Weird!" Filming that scene was such a blast, and I rocked that starfish costume!

Can you share any new projects you have coming up?

What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

Well, I'm taking the summer off to go on vacation with my family, which I can’t wait for! I'm also excited to see what new opportunities come my way! Hopefully, you will see me on Season 5 of The Detour!

This industry is filled with ups and downs. Don't get discouraged, keep at it! You will hit the perfect job for you!

When did you start to realize you wanted acting to be your career?

How does it feel to be in a movie you’re not old enough to see in theaters?

I realized that I genuinely wanted to pursue a career in acting, after watching my older brother who introduced me to the whole acting scene. As I watched him, I knew that this was something I really wanted to do.

It definitely sucks, however, we had such a great time filming it, a fun summer vacation, and I made some long-lasting friendships.

How did the opportunity to be in Good Boys come about and why did you want to be a part of the project?

What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

I really wanted to be in Good Boys after I read the character breakdown of Lucas and the script. I related so much to my character and I’m not only a huge comedy connoisseur but also a really big fan of Seth Rogen.

The best advice I’ve received is to study the craft and constantly train. You can always do better and be better, than before.

Tell us a bit about the movie and your character Lucas. Good Boys is about three sixth-graders, who are invited to a kissing party, something they don’t know how to do. While in the process of learning how to kiss, everything turns sideways. I play Lucas who is a softhearted and cautious kid. He’s very unintentionally comedic.

Could you relate to certain aspects of the story? I feel like I can mostly relate to the innocent aspect of Lucas. I say that because, during the filming process, the parents of the cast, were required to breakdown the very touchy subjects that were featured in the film; and I can honestly say that I’m still so lost.
