When did acting change from something you were interested in, to a career you wanted to pursue? My senior year of high school was really when I started focusing on acting as a career. I had started college applications and something just didn’t feel right. I realized that if I wanted to be an actor, there was a chance I didn’t need to go the typical college route so I found a local agent in Austin, Texas and started auditioning!

You’ve been able to tackle diverse characters because of the different projects you’ve been a part of. What about the script or the character makes you want to be a part of the project? I like to be a part of projects that I would actually watch or tell friends to watch, and those types of shows/movies are ones with a message about the human experience. I love watching character-driven films that deal with people's hardships and how they overcome them.

When you approach a role. What do you do to get yourself into character? One of my favorite parts of developing a character once I'm cast, is working with the hair, makeup and wardrobe teams! When you're trying on clothes and different looks, you're suddenly making decisions from your character's perspective so it really helps to find those little ticks within a person.

How did the opportunity to play Jesse Quick on ‘The Flash’ come about? What is your favorite memory from on the set of ‘The Flash’? I self-taped for The Flash when I was still living in Austin, TX. It was crazy when I got the call that I had booked the role. I immediately ran out to my local comic book shop and picked up everything I could find on Jesse. My favorite moment working on the show would have to be when Jesse finally appears in her suit. I had waited almost two years for it, so when it finally came, it was like getting a car for your 16th birthday!

Your film ‘Truth or Dare’ is out in theaters. Were there any moments on set that had you truly scared?

All of the death scenes are pretty creepy! One of the creepiest is probably when Ronnie slips on a pool ball and falls off the pool table. Ah!

Have you ever been in any truly terrifying situations? When I was 17, I was driving my friend and I home from a school function late at night and she was asleep in the passenger seat. When we were a couple of blocks from her house, I fell asleep at the wheel. When I woke up the car had smashed into some trees and we were both so scared. Insanely enough, neither one of had a scratch on us while the car was totaled. That was pretty terrifying!

You were recently cast to play a lead in the show ‘God Friended Me’. What led you to this project? Being as it is a faith-based show, have you approached preparing for this role any differently than you usually would? I'm actually very much on the fence about where I stand with religion at this point in my life, so this is an interesting project for me to be working on. What I love about it is that our creators want to show every side to religion--Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Non-believer, etc. They write each character with such different backgrounds, but sharing a common interest, so hopefully the show can bring everyone watching a little bit closer.

You directed, edited and starred in the music video for Eyelid Kid’s song ‘Landscape’. Is directing something you hope to pursue in the future? I loved directing that music video. I had a lot of fun! Directing is absolutely something I'm interested in. Every time I walk on set, I'm hoping to learn something new that can help me get a better picture and work towards directing. It is no easy feat, and it requires a lot of understanding of how all parts of a production work.

You’ve recently become a vegan. What inspired that lifestyle switch?

A lot of things had culminated up until about 6 months ago, when I finally made the switch. I've always loved animals so of course that was a nobrainer, but I also started educating myself more and more on the negative impacts our meat and dairy industries have on the environment. Both industries create an immense amount of greenhouse gases, not to mention the amount of food (corn and wheat) production needed to feed the animals, which in turn uses way more water than would be needed for vegetable crops. The meat industry also takes a negative toll on our bodies due to the amount of antibiotics and nitrates that are pumped into the "all-natural" meat we buy.

You are also an activist. What made you want to lend your voice to organizations such as PETA and causes like trying to live a “crueltyfree” life? I actually have a bunny, and the thought of testing something on him that was so unsafe I wouldn't test it on myself, is absurd. Animal testing is unnecessary cruelty. End of story.

What advice do you have for aspiring actors? Study your craft by getting out there and doing it! Even if that means recording little skits on your iphone. You won't know if acting is really something you want to do, unless you’re doing it.
