Window Naming
Every window and door sash in the model should have a unique name so that you can identify them in PHPP and in the project drawings easily. Sometimes you’ll be able to follow the normal Architectural naming conventions, but sometimes you’ll need to add more specific identification data. Add all names to the Instance field in Entity Info for each window component

Best Practice: Layers
To help organize the scene, move your GROUPS onto different layers so you can turn of/off
bldgtyp
19 / 55
Best Practice: Layers
Raw Geometry (faces, edges) should ALWAYS go on ‘Layer0’. Also place your window components on ‘Layer0’ in most cases

Best Practice: Window Walls

Best Practice: Window Walls
Windows need a HOST surface. Inset window 1mm top and bottom first, if it still doesn’t work, inside the sides 1mm as well. Don’t forget to assign an exposure and a UValue to the host wall, even though it’s only 1mm wide, PHPP will still need it or else you’ll get an error.

Best Practice: Facets
Sometimes, especially with IMPORTED geometry, things can go all wonky with Sketchup faces. In my experience, its almost always best to delete the offending object(s) and just start over. Usually its impossible to salvage anything once this starts to happen.

Best Practice: Be Careful Tracing Be very cautious tracing / snapping to CAD underlays. Its very common for imported CAD plans, block objects or elevations to NOT be flat. This will result in non-planar surfaces which will mess all your modeling up.

Best Practice: Use ‘By Axis’ to Check Underlays

Best Practice: Use ‘By Axis’ to Check Underlays
Some edges are lightly ‘OFF AXIS’ (not on X or Y axis). This could mess up your tracing and result in non-planar or faceted surfaces.

How PHPP Handles Window ‘Installs’
• ‘1’ means do apply the Psi-Install along this edge • ’0’ means do not apply the Psi-Install along this edge (apply at 0%) • Any other number input gets applied as the Psi-Install (can override the Components worksheet this way)
