ROSS BLECKNER (On) Gathering, 2010 Color aquatint etching 18” x 18” Edition: artist proof 3/5, edition of 40 Estimated Retail Value: $2,200 Celebrated New York-based ar tist Ross Bleckner (born 1949) is known for painting a broad spectrum of subjects. His ongoing series depicting flowers reflects the temporal nature of a bloom’s lifespan—its beauty and imprint made upon the world only fleetingly. In 1995, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presented a major retrospective of Bleckner’s works summarizing two decades of international solo shows at such museums as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Ar t, the Contemporary Ar ts Museum Houston, the Moderna Museet Stockholm, and the Carnegie Museum of Ar t, Pittsburgh. His work is held in esteemed public collections, including the Museum of Modern Ar t, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Ar t, Los Angeles; the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Ar t, Oslo; the Museo Nacional Centro de Ar te Reina Sofia, Madrid; and the Whitney Museum of American Ar t, New York. Bleckner has had a profound impact on the New York ar t world, and his philanthropic effor ts have enabled many community organizations to perform their vital work. Graciously donated by ar tist

ALEXANDRA PENNEY Lush Lush, 2018 Digital print 32” x 24” Estimated Retail Value: $5,000 Alexandra Penney left a highly celebrated career in journalism to pursue her career in ar t. During her time at Condé Nast, working with leading photographers Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Helmut Newton, she decided to change direction by exploring digital photography. Penney’s first New York City solo show, at the Julie Lavin Gallery, focused on large-scale digitally manipulated flowers. Since then, flowers continue to be a theme in her work. This photograph depicts a vision of flowers whose diffused contrast and painterly quality link to a new series of ephemeral por traits soon to be exhibited at the Jason McCoy Gallery, New York, in which the subjects’ details are barely visible, disappearing into the whiteness of the paper. Graciously donated by ar tist

RICHARD DUPONT Biometry 124, 2014 Oil on paper 32.5” x 24.75” Estimated Retail Value: $5,000 Richard Dupont (born 1968) is an American ar tist whose work engages a wide variety of media including sculpture, drawing, digital animation, painting, printmaking, and photography. His work is often presented in large installations. An examination of the social implications of 21st century digital technologies informs much of his work, as does an interest in perception. He received a BA (1991) from the Depar tments of Visual Ar t and Ar t and Archeology at Princeton University. Dupont’s works are included in the collections of numerous museums, including The Museum of Modern Ar t, the Whitney Museum of American Ar t, and the Brooklyn Museum, New York; the Museum of Fine Ar ts, Boston; the Cleveland Museum of Ar t; and The New York Public Library Print Collection, among many others. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Museum of Ar ts and Design (MAD) Visionary Award. Graciously donated by ar tist

Acclaimed American ar tist Clifford Ross (born 1952) has worked in multiple forms of media, including sculpture, painting, photography, and video. His ar t, which has expanded the boundaries of both photography and printmaking, has often been informed by science. He served as a NYSCF Ar tist-in-Residence and also received the NYSCF Ar ts Leadership Award in 2017. Ross was inspired to create four limited-edition prints for NYSCF in 2016, when he saw a stem-cell image created by NYSCF scientists and noted parallels to his own ar tistic work, much of which is based on highresolution photographs of nature. All of the images in Ross’s colorful and varied Harmonium series were created from one small detail found in an extremely high-resolution photograph of Colorado’s Mt. Sopris. The “one” becomes the “many” in Ross’s images, which the ar tist sees as analogous to the way in which stem cells divide and reproduce. He has previously used his Harmonium imagery to make extensive bodies of work on paper, as well as computer-generated animated videos such as Harmonium Mountain I featuring an original score by Philip Glass. Ross’ work can be found in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Ar t, The Museum of Modern Ar t, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Ar t, New York; The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; The Museum of Fine Ar ts, Houston; and the Philadelphia Museum of Ar t. Graciously donated by ar tist

DONALD BAECHLER The Benefit Boy, 2010 Silkscreen on Rives BFK Paper 20” x 15” Edition: 12/17 Estimated Retail Value: $1,400 Donald Baechler’s creative process begins amidst a vast collection of popular images and objects; the archives of years of photographing, looking, and gathering. His paintings are condensed versions of that cumulative process, whose built-in fragments and layers create what he calls an “illusion of history.” Baechler (born 1956) cites Cy Twombly and Giotto as his primary influences. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Cheim & Read, New York City; The Kunsthalle Merano, Italy; and the Museum der Moderne Ruper tinum, Salzburg. His work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Ar t, the Whitney Museum of American Ar t, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Ar t, Los Angeles; and the Centre George Pompidou and the Musée National d’Ar t Moderne, Paris, among other institutions worldwide. DAVID SALLE Untitled, 2012 Graphite on paper 12” x 17.25” Estimated Retail Value: $4,500 American painter, printmaker, and stage designer David Salle (born 1952) helped to define postmodern sensibility. He is known for his collage-like paintings featuring overlapping imagery from a variety of sources, layering figures and patterns into colorful compositions rendered in a straightforward, uncomplicated style. Salle aspires to achieve the “simultaneity of film montage into painting.” He studied under the famed Conceptual ar tist John Baldessari, a lasting influence on his work. Salle lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to his studio practice, he has frequently written for Artforum, The Paris Review, and ARTnews, among others. His paintings can be found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Ar t, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Tate Gallery, London; The Ar t Institute of Chicago; and the National Gallery of Ar t, Washington, D.C., among others. Graciously donated by ar tist, cour tesy of Skarsedt, NY

DUSTIN YELLIN Hole 222, 2016 Collage 4.75” x 5.375” x 1.5” Estimated Retail Value: $3,000 Brooklyn-based contemporary ar tist Dustin Yellin (born 1975) is best known for sculptural paintings that use multiple layers of glass, each covered in detailed imagery, to create a single intricate, three-dimensional collage. His work is notable both for its massive scale and its fantastic dystopian themes. Originally forming his work in resin, Yellin shifted to glass panels that allowed him to edit and rearrange his compositions. He culls clippings from mid-twentieth century reference texts and scientific materials, assembling them into images both recognizable and imaginary. Yellin’s sculptures have been commissioned for public exhibition at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Ar ts, in Washington, D.C. and the New York City Ballet Ar t Series at Lincoln Center. A series of these sculptures was also installed permanently in Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard. Graciously donated by ar tist

C H R I S TO WRAPPED Fountain, Project for La Fontana de Jujol, Plaza de Espana, Barcelona, 1975-2009 Lithograph and collage of cloth, cardstock and twine on Somerset Velvet cardboard 22” x 28.25” Edition: 200 + 30 HC + XXXV AP Printer and Publisher: La Poligrafa, Barcelona Number: AP VI/XXXV Estimated Retail Value: $11,000 Both beloved and controversial, Christo’s earliest sculptures were composed of cans and bottles—some as found and some painted or wrapped in paper, plastic, or fabric. With his late wife, Jeanne-Claude, he made incomparable works of daring scale, while maintaining a loyalty to his earliest materials and methods. Classic Christo/Jean-Claude installations include: Iron Curtain—Wall of Oil Drums, Paris; a suspended 18,375-foot “air package” over Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Wrapped Buildings in Bern, Switzerland; Chicago, Illinois; and Spoleto, Italy. They also wrapped the Pont Neuf, Paris, and The Reichstag, Berlin; and revealed a new dimension to New York City’s Central Park with The Gates, on display for 16 days in 2005, attracting more than four million visitors. Christo (born 1935) realizes his projects in preliminary drawings; Wrapped Fountain, as such, is a most elegant “working” drawing. Graciously donated by ar tist

JASPER JOHNS Untitled, 1977 Screenprint on parchment 9.5” x 9.4” Edition of 3,000 Publisher: Brooke Alexander Estimated Retail Value: $2,800 Jasper Johns (born 1930) is an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker whose richly textured paintings of maps, flags, numbers, and targets laid the groundwork for Pop ar t, Minimalism, and Conceptual ar t. In New York in the 1950s, Johns was par t of a community of ar tists, including Robert Rauschenberg, seeking an alternative to the emotional nature of Abstract Expressionism. Influenced by Marcel Duchamp, Johns’ early work paired the concerns of craft with familiar concrete imagery. His interest in process also led to innovations in lithography, screen-printing, etching, and woodblock, using such materials as pencil, pen, brush, crayon, wax, and plaster to constantly challenge the technical possibilities of printmaking. Johns has received many honors throughout his career, including the National Medal of Ar ts in 1990 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. He was called the United States’ “foremost living ar tist” by The New York Times in 2018. Graciously donated by John Elderfield

TRICIA KEIGHTLEY D24.19.18 B, 2018 Acrylic paint on paper 24” x 19” Estimated Retail Value: $1,400 Influenced by technology, engineering, and formal abstraction, Tricia Keightley finds inspiration in the hidden mechanical systems that make our world function. She paints by hand to counterbalance the futuristic technology and machinemade structures that each piece reflects, combining engineering plans, patent submissions, and architectural layouts with geometric forms or colors. Keightley has exhibited in the United States and internationally, and is a recipient of a New York Foundation for the Ar ts Fellowship and has residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Millay Colony for the Ar ts. She was commissioned by New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority Ar ts for Transit program for a permanent piece installed at the Hunters Point Avenue #7 subway station. Graciously donated by ar tist, cour tesy of Fisher Parrish Gallery

W I L L M E N TO R Place, 1984 Oil on board with antique gold frame 17” x 14” Estimated Retail Value: $1,500 American painter Will Mentor burst onto the New York ar t scene in the early 1980s, gaining instant success for what critics referred to as his “Neo-surrealist” abstract oil paintings. Mentor called this specific piece “the crème de la crème of my small paintings.” Mentor (born 1958) received his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. Later, dividing his time between New York and a farm in Iowa, he became interested in the spectacle of consumerism and the business of agriculture. His more recent works explore these notions through geometric abstractions of barcodes color-coded with agribusiness logos. Mentor’s concern with agriculture as a product of labor, biochemistry, and industry influences the subject of his paintings, and the way he makes them. His computer-manipulated, hand-painted images of barcodes are analogous to the interaction between humans and machines. Mentor lives and works in Burlington, Vermont, where he teaches ar t at St. Michael’s College. Graciously donated by Eileen and Richard Ekstract www.collectorsconcessions.com

JOHN NEWSOM Wishing Well, 2018 Colored pencil and Flashe on paper 14” x 11” Estimated Retail Value: $6,000 John Newsom (born 1970) is an allegorical painter of the natural world. His larger-than-life depictions of various flora and fauna place the viewer at the edge of perception. Newsom created Wishing Well especially for the NYSCF Gala. The title implies hope, good will, and health. A lotus blossom must traverse its way through muddy undergrowth before achieving full bloom. The dragonfly acts as an aide or messenger in the lotus’ growth process, which underscores Newsom’s intent. Through its optimism and beauty, Wishing Well implies triumph over suffering and the impor tance of patience in the face of struggle. Newsom’s work is included in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Ar t and The Whitney Museum, New York; as well as The San Francisco Museum of Modern Ar t, among other notable institutions. Graciously donated by John and Cassie Newsom

TA R R A B A N D E T Directed Evolution, 2018 Ostrich egg, mosaic glass and white gold 12” x 6” Estimated Retail Value: $1,700 Tarra Bandet’s Founding Waves of Evolution transforms direct elements of nature into symbolic fragments of patterned light, vibrant color, and structured design with mosaic glass, oil painting, an ostrich egg, and stone. The stunning mixed-media sculpture is representative of the ar tist’s larger thematic practice, which explores the relationship between the complex evolution of humanity and nature. Bandet recognizes that this primary origin has been united to the human condition throughout the history of all cultures. The constant evolution in nature, which includes humanity, captures our imagination and strengthens the foundations for higher learning by forging a covalent bond between the ar ts and sciences. Graciously donated by ar tist

JESSIC A BROWNE-WHITE Fault Lines, 2015 Mixed Media 12” x 15” x 2” Estimated Retail Value: $750 New York-based multidisciplinary ar tist Jessica Browne-White is a Waking Dreamer, Energy Ar tist, and creator of the Body/Image/Object (BIO) Project. She creates two and three-dimensional ar tworks that layer and reflect the physical, emotional, spiritual, and creative lives of women. Her work is an ongoing exploration of how our biology affects our biographies (and vice versa); along with how we can shift and integrate our perception of our bodies, our self-image, and the object(ive) of our lives. Browne-White describes this work as a piece about the release of emotional fracturing, and exploring the color and texture of emotion beneath the surface we present to the world. Where are the cracks and pressure points, and can we find beauty in them instead of hiding them? Graciously donated by ar tist

M AT T D I L L O N Yambu, 2017 Mixed media on paper 14” x 11” Estimated Retail Value: $6,000 Matt Dillon (born 1964), best known as an award-winning actor and film director, is one of the premiere voices within his generation of actors. Throughout Dillon’s illustrious film career, he has maintained an avid interest in the art-making process, having grown up in a family of artists himself. During his extensive travels, he has created “trip books”: visual journals functioning as his field diaries. In the process, he collages multiple scraps of ephemera found in the forms of photos and local memorabilia onto various papers. Dillon is also a passionate enthusiast of Afro/Cuban music. Through a series of works based on Rumberos (drummers), he explores the sound and rhythmic gestures found within Afro/Cuban percussive patterns. This work references the slowest and most sensual pattern that makes up the formal practice of the Rumberos. Graciously donated by ar tist
