RULES EDUCATION

The NYSGA holds rules seminars each spring at member clubs across upstate New York. These free educational opportunities are open to the public.

The main goals of these seminars are to provide an overview of each rule, identify common mistakes in application, and answer any specific questions attendees may have.

Since 2019, the NYSGA has addressed the new Rules of Golf and provided an in-depth overview of each specific change. Seminar leaders will update attendees on the changes that went will go into effect beginning in 2023.

For NYSGA committee members, staff leadership provides multiple in-depth seminars each year and oversight at championships, the Amateur Series events and USGA qualifiers.

The NYSGA’s staff annually provides seminars for the various PGA sections, Golf Course Superintendent Association sections, and at regional golf shows.

Beyond that, the NYSGA is a rules education resource for its statewide community and is available to answer questions on the Rules of Golf that members may have throughout the year.

Communications

Standards for the way we communicate continue to evolve very quickly. With a strong majority of people checking email, internet, social media, and even posting their golf scores to GHIN directly on mobile devices, it’s now more important than ever to effectively utilize these popular, digital mediums of communication to engage with our audience.

The NYSGA is continually enhancing the way we communicate with members and clubs. Our team has worked diligently to strengthen the association’s digital presence over the last several years by creating higher quality content and golf resources, incorportating more visual media (photo and video), and engaging our community more often through social media and email communications.

One example of such an enhancement is the

NYSGA’s e-newsletter. This digital publication is packed with all the latest news pertaining to NYSGA and USGA events, updates on notable players around the state, playing opportunities, exciting member offerings, and more!

Another is our website, NYSGA.org, which has seen many enhancements since undertaking a minor redesign in 2018 where new elements and features were added to make the site more user-friendly and easy to navigate, present a modern aesthetic, and improve the mobile version. The website continues to be a vital resource for those looking for information on amateur golf in the Empire State.

On the competitions side, we now offer live holeby-hole scoring at all NYSGA Championships, USGA qualifiers, and Amateur Series events. It has been a huge value to offer friends, family and golf enthusiasts who cannot attend these events the opportunity to follow the action closely through their laptop, phone or other device. Our communications staff has been able to complement the live scoring with real-time updates on our website and social media with enhanced photo and video coverage.

As the NYSGA continues to grow and adapt, we’re dedicated to improving how the NYSGA communicates with our members and deliver the most compelling and engaging content we can provide for our audience.

We also would like to thank all the members of the New York media who provide us with great coverage of NYSGA events and help us share the excitement of our competitions to the various communities around the state.
