ABOUT US Since the New York Golf Association (NYSGA) was formed in 1923, our passionate committee members and staff have worked tirelessly to promote the game, build strong golf communities, and protect golf’s traditions across the Empire State. Annually, the NYSGA conducts 100+ tournament days each season between the 20 NYS amateur championships and their sectional qualifiers, USGA qualifiers in our region, and a series of single-day net events around the state. Beyond conducting tournaments, the NYSGA provides several key services to member golf & country clubs including the GHIN Handicap System, course rating & measuring, rules education, tournament administration assistance, scholarships, junior golf initiatives, communications, member benefits & more!
Background s The NYSGA is a regional governing body for amateur golf in New York (excluding Metro-NY and Rochester). s Directly services over 41,000 individual members and more than 250 member clubs. s Founded in 1923 for the purpose of conducting an annual sanctioned New York State Amateur championship to decide the state’s top players. The NYSGA celebrated its centennial during the 2023 season.

Amateur Series This series gives NYSGA members the opportunity to compete against peers at a similar skill level, gain exclusive access to top private golf clubs, play competitively for net/gross under the USGA rules of golf, and meet other golfers from around the state.

EVENTS - EDUCATION Rules of Golf Seminars Albany, Buffalo, Binghamton, Elmira, North Country, Syracuse, Utica The NYSGA offers free Rules of Golf Seminars, hosted by private member clubs in each region of upstate New York. These seminars serve as a great opportunity to revisit/refresh the rules, go over unique scenarios and give the attendees an opportunity to ask specific questions.
These seminars overview the major changes and Rules situations that are often encountered during the play of a round. These seminars are led by USGA expert certified Rules instructors from the NYSGA’s staff and volunteer network. These seminars are offered to the public, and all attendees must register online in advance to access a spot in the seminar. These seminars generally fill up to maximum attendance allowed by the facility. All seminars include complimentary continental breakfast and a copy of the Players’ Edition of the Rules of Golf.
