Nythamar de Oliveira
Nythamar Fernandes de Oliveira was born in Rio de Janeiro and teaches Ethics and Political Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University in Porto Alegre (PUCRS), Brazil. He earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1994), with a dissertation "On the Genealogy of Modernity: Kant, Nietzsche, Foucault" (publication by Nova Science, 2003; paperback, 2012), defended before the committee composed of Professors David B. Allison (President), Kenneth Baynes (Advisor), Mary Rawlinson, and Herman Lebovics (External Reader). He also holds a Master's degree in Philosophy from Villanova University (1990), under the supervision of Jack Caputo, and a Master's in Theology from Aix-en-Provence (1987), with a thesis on Liberation Theology, under Christian Rouvière. He was a postdoctoral Visiting Scholar at the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research, in New York(1997-98), under Dick Bernstein, and was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to conduct postdoctora
