Navy Today is a monthly magazine that celebrates the latest news about the Royal New Zealand Navy and its people. We cover operations and exercises, exploring how our Navy ships work and detail the lives of those who serve on our ships, on shore and in all parts of the world.
In July’s Navy Today we welcome Aotearoa, our largest ever Navy vessel to New Zealand. HMNZS Otago prepares its crew for a Pacific deployments, in a vigorous shakedown and workup of all systems and procedures. HMNZS Hawea protects our borders with NZ Customs, and we meet an officer who reckons you don’t need to have a background in pulling engines apart to become a successful marine engineer. We find out how our sailors and officers earn exchanges and attachments with other navies, and find out in a very wet simulator what it takes to plug a leak and save a ship.
