NZI Helmets es hoy en día un referente europeo en temas de seguridad para el motociclista.

NZI Helmets is nowadays a European reference concerning motorcyclist’s safety.

Desde el primer casco en fibra de vidrio fabricado por su fundador Nazario Ibañez en 1972 hasta la actualidad, más de 11 milliones de cascos se han producido en nuestra fábrica de Yecla (Murcia), comercializados en más de 30 Países.

Since the first fiberglass helmet was manufactured by its founder, Nazario Ibañez, in 1972, more than 11 million helmets have been produced in NZI’s factory in Yecla, (Murcia), distributed in more than 30 countries around the world.

NZI Helmets ha participado siempre en el mundo de la alta competición, patrocinando a grandes campeones mundiales como Alex Crivillé, Jorge Martinez “Aspar”, Alvaro Bautista y Jorge Lorenzo. Gracias a sus esfuerzos constantes en innovación e investigación, NZI Helmets ha desarrollado su propia tecnología así como nuevos sistemas de producción para la construcción de carcasas y rellenos protectores, además de la introducción de nuevos materiales y su optimización con el fin de lograr la máxima protección con el menor peso. En reconocimiento por los logros obtenidos en los últimos años NZI ha recibido varios premios, entre ellos el de la Asociación Española de Bellas Artes y la Sociedad Española de Estado de Desarrollo de Diseño e Innovación en la exposición ‘Valores del Diseño: Visión, Diseño y Innovación‘ en 2008, por el sistema de comunicación inalámbrica NZI Tech Com 1.0 y por el casco de seguridad, patentado por NZI Helmets. NZI Helmets participa activamente en varios proyectos internacionales y es miembro del Grupo de Trabajo del 3er Plan de Acción Europeo de Seguridad Vial con el cual ha participado en el proyecto SIM (Seguridad en movimiento), cuyo objetivo es diseñar productos innovadores que contribuyan a la prevención y reducción de accidentes en carretera para los usuarios de motocicletas. NZI Helmets es además una empresa comprometida con el medio ambiente. Prueba de ello ha sido su participación en el proyecto CRAFT, cuyo objetivo es el desarrollo de nuevos materiales completamente reciclables y la introducción de nuevas herramientas, normas y técnicas de fabricación que incrementen la seguridad de los usuarios, faciliten el reciclaje y regeneración de los cascos, minimizando así el impacto ambiental.

NZI Helmets has always taken part in high competition’s world such as Moto Gp, sponsoring great world champions like Alex Crivillé, Jorge Martinez “Aspar”, Alvaro Bautista or Jorge Lorenzo. Thanks to its continuous efforts innovating and researching, NZI Helmets has developed its own technology and new production systems to build protective shells and liners, besides introducing new materials and its optimization in order to achieve the maximum protection with the right weight. In recognition of its achievements in recent years NZI has received several awards, including the one granted by the Spanish Association of Fine Arts and the Spanish Society of Development and Innovation in the Design exhibition: “Design Values: Vision, Design and Innovation” in 2008. The wireless communication system NZI Tech Com 1.0 and safety helmet, patented by NZI Helmets were prized. NZI Helmets actively participates in several international projects and is an active member of the Working Group of the European 3rd Road Safety Action Plan. NZI has participated in the SIM project (Safety in motion), whose objective is to design innovative products that contribute to the prevention and reduction of road accidents for motorcycle riders. NZI Helmets is also a company committed to the environment. Proof of this has been his participation in the CRAFT project, whose goal is the development of new fully recyclable materials and the introduction of new tools, standards and manufacturing techniques that increase the safety of users and facilitate the recycling of materials.

From the beginning NZI has always supported the pilots of the CEV and World Championships; thanks to this NZI Helmets is a three time World Champion; in 1989 with Alex Criville and in 2006 with Jorge Lorenzo (250cc) and Alvaro Bautista (125cc). Seguridad, confort y visión son los tres conceptos en los que se basa la filosofía de NZI Helmets. El casco no sólo tiene que proteger la cabeza ante un impacto en el caso de un accidente, sino que también debe ofrecer facilidad de uso, tiene que ser práctico y cómodo y tiene que proporcionar una buena visión; si combinamos todos estos factores podremos conseguir que la experiencia de conducción sea tal que el conductor pueda concentrarse en la conducción mediante la eliminación de los factores que pueden ocasionar estrés. La innovación tiene como objetivo la mejora de los elementos de seguridad activa y pasiva que debe reunir un casco. Para ello, junto al desarrollo de materiales para la carcasa y el relleno de protección, NZI Helmets ha creado sus propias normas internas para evaluar la ergonomía de un casco, confort térmico y acústico y la calidad de la visión. En nuestro departamento de I+D investigamos continuamente para lograr mejoras constantes en todos los aspectos que contribuyen a la seguridad que debe proporcionar un casco: Seguridad pasiva: minimizar lesiones en caso de accidentes Resistencia estructural para soportar los esfuerzos que sobrevienen durante un accidente Elementos de seguridad adicionales e innovadores: pantallas termoformadas más resistentes a la rotura, incorporación de airbag al casco. Seguridad activa: crear las condiciones y sistemas de ayuda para prevenir el accidente. -Ventilación: una buena ventilación permite mantener la temperatura de la cabeza a niveles aceptables proporcionando confort y evita el exceso de acumulación de CO2 que perjudica los tiempos de reacción del conductor. -Acústica: un correcto tratamiento acústico del casco evita niveles de sonorización elevados en los oídos del conductor y protección del sistema auditivo, especialmente en recorridos largos. -Aerodinámica: fundamental para descargar las cervicales del peso del casco y del empuje del aire. -Estabilización de la temperatura: para asegurar que el entorno de la cabeza se mantenga cerca de los 37º en el interior de los cascos NZI se emplean fibras que contienen nanoesferas rellenas de un material capaz de cambiar de fase, de forma que absorben el calor cuando es necesario para liberarlo cuando se necesita, minimizando así las oscilaciones térmicas en la piel del usuario. -Ergonomía: para agilizar al máximo el manejo - incluso con guantes o una sola mano- de algunas partes del casco, como por ejemplo los mecanismos de ventilación o de apertura/cierre del visor.. Finalmente un estricto control de calidad en el proceso de producción de los cascos garantiza el cumplimiento de nuestros standards, además de las normativas obligatorias. La validación final de producto se consigue a través de pruebas de pilotos de miles de kilómetros antes de su comercialización.

Safety, comfort and vision are the three main concepts which NZI Helmets philosophy is based on. The helmet not only protects the head upon impacts in case of an accident, it has also to offer ease of use, has to be practical and comfortable and has to provide a good picture. If we combine all these factors, we get the driving experience in such way that the driver can concentrate on driving the motorcycle by eliminating factors that causes stress. The innovation is aimed at improving the elements of active and passive safety requirements for a helmet. This, together with the development of materials for shell and protective padding, NZI Helmets has created its own internal rules to evaluate the ergonomics of a helmet, thermal and acoustic comfort and quality of vision. Our R&D department is continuously investigating for improvements in all aspects that contribute to the security provided by a helmet: Passive safety: minimize injuries in case of accidents. Structural resistance to support the efforts that strike during an accident. Innovative and additional security features: thermoformed visor give more resistance to breakeage, airbag incorporated to the helmet. Active Safety: enabling and support systems to prevent the accident. -Ventilation: Good ventilation keeps the head temperature to acceptable levels by providing comfort and prevents excess accumulation of CO2 which impairs the rider’s reaction time. -Acoustics: proper acoustic treatment prevents high levels of sound in the ears of the rider and protects the auditory system, especially on long rides. -Aerodynamics: fundamental to release the cervical from the weight of the helmet and the press of the air. -Temperature stabilization: to ensure that the environment of the head is maintained near 37 ° on the inside of helmets. NZI uses fibers containing nanospheres filled with a material capable of changing phase, so that they absorb heat when is necessary to release when needed, thus minimizing temperature variations in the skin of the user. -Ergonomics: to improve managing to the maximum - even with gloves or one hand - of some parts of the helmet, as for example the mechanisms of ventilation or of opening / closing of the visor. Seguridad | Safety La funcionalidad principal de un casco es la protección del usuario en caso de accidente, esto es lo que denominamos seguridad pasiva. La seguridad activa es todo aquello que podemos hacer, mediante la incorporación de diferentes funcionalidades, para prevenir que el accidente ocurra. La seguridad pasiva El ámbito de la seguridad pasiva está regulado por diferentes normas de obligado cumplimiento en los diferentes países o espacios económicos. El Reglameto R22.05 de las Naciones Unidas (de aplicación en todos los países europeos ya sean o no miembros de la UE) se considera la más importantes. Los cascos de NZI Helmets están diseñados, entre otras, según la norma de homologación ECE R22.05. En esta norma hay varias pruebas que han de ser superadas por el casco antes de entrar en producción, después, cada lote debe ser analizado de nuevo para garantizar la seguridad. La norma ECE R22.05 se desarrolló en un grupo de trabajo de la Comisión Económica para Europa de las Naciones Unidas, en dicho grupo se integraron expertos en seguridad vial, fabricantes de cascos y expertos en accidentología y ensayos de países como Alemania, Holanda, Francia, Suiza, España, Bélgica, Italia y Reino Unido entre otros. El resultado es una norma bien diseñada, funcional y lógica basada en todos los datos disponibles a nivel europeo de accidentes y sus consecuentes análisis. La seguridad activa Tan importante como la seguridad pasiva es la seguridad activa para reducir al mínimo la posibilidad de tener un accidente. Buenos ejemplos de características de seguridad activa ya incorporados en los cascos de NZI Helmets son los Mist Retardant, el One Push control de entrada de aire y el One Push control del visor solar. Estas características permiten al piloto minimizar los tiempos en los que la mano suelta el manillar de la moto. Hoy en día, bajo el lema: “seguridad, confort y visión” NZI Helmets ha logrado cinco importantes proyectos. Estos son: El cumplimiento de los requisitos del Reglamento de la Norma al Certificar las propiedades anti-vaho de nuestras pantallas Mist Retardant (seguridad activa). Fabricación de modelos con hasta tres tamaños de carcasa que garantiza la seguridad del motociclista y aumentando el confort, al mismo tiempo, independientemente de su tamaño de la cabeza (seguridad activa y pasiva). Desarrollo de un sistema Bluetooth®, que puede ser instalado en los cascos dentro de manera integrada, protegida de las influencias ambientales y accidentes. (seguridad activa). Integración de pantallas de protección contra los rayos del sol que son fácil de usar en cascos integrales, abatibles y abiertos (seguridad activa). La aplicación de materiales como el Outlast® en el interior de los cascos que absorbe el calor excesivo de la cabeza y que la libera cuando el motociclista lo necesito (seguridad activa). La seguridad post-crash. En este campo reciente de trabajo se encuentra la industria de las dos ruedas investigando para poder adoptar, tan pronto como sea posible, soluciones de eCall (llamada automática de emergencia) que en breve veremos en el mundo de los automóviles auspiciado por la UE. NZI Helmets, pionera en este campo, esta investigando las mejores estrategias tanto de disparo como de información para que los sistemas de emergencia puedan evaluar información consistente y veraz cuando estos sistemas se pongan en uso y las llamadas lleguen a ellos tras un accidente.

The most important feature of a helmet is that protects you in case of an accident; this is what called passive safety in a helmet. Active safety is all you can achieve for trying to prevent an accident, with the implementation of different functions in a helmet. Post-crash safety is when the accident has occurred, the motorcyclist has suffered an impact and the helmet has done is job by absorbing energy to protect him. Passive safety The field of the passive safety is regulated by different standars that have to be accomplished for different countries. The R22.05 of the United Nations (applicable in all European countries, both for EU as non-EU members) is considered the most important nowadays. The NZI Helmets are designed to comply with the ECE R22.05 homologation standard, amongst others. In this standard there are various tests that have to be surpassed by a helmet before it can be entered in production. When the helmet is in production, every batch of helmets has to be tested again to ensure the safety of the helmets. The ECE R22.05 norm was developed in a work group of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations, part of this group were experts in road safety, helmet manufacturers, experts in accidents and experts in testing methods from several countries like Germany, The Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Italy and the United Kingdom, amongst others. The result is a well designed standard, which is functional, logical and based on all the data that is available on a European level about accidents and their relevant analysis. Active safety As important as passive safety is the active safety to minimize the chance to have an accident. Good examples of active safety features already are incorporated in NZI Helmets’ such as the ‘Mist Retardant’ homologation, the ‘One Push’ air intake and the sunvisor control. These features allow the rider to maintain his hands on the steering bar as long as possible as intuitive quick movements only are required to command. Nowadays under the theme “safety, comfort & vision” we have accomplished 5 important projects. These are: Meeting the requirements of the Standard Regulation to Certificate the anti-mist properties of our “mist retardant” shields (active safety). Manufacturing of models using up to three shell sizes assuring motorcyclist’s safety and increasing comfort at the same time, regardless of their head size (active and passive safety). Development of a Bluetooth® system which is mostly integrated in the helmet, being protected of environmental influences and crashes (active safety). Integration of easy to use visors to protect against sun rays in full face, flip up and open face helmets (active safety). Implementation of materials like Outlast® in the comfort padding of helmets to absorb excess head heat and to release heat when the motorcyclist need it most (active safety). Post-crash safety In this recently emerged field of work the motorcycle industry is investigating to see how it can adapt, as soon as possible, safety solutions like the e-Call (automatic alert to rescue services) which will see shortly in the automotive world under the control of the EU. NZI Helmets, pioneer in this field, is investigating the best strategies to alert the rescue services. The alert should go off and information relative to the accident should be send to the rescue services so they receive consistent and truthful information when these systems are started to being used.

En seguridad activa hay algunos desarrollos interesantes. En los coches se pueden encontrar cada vez más técnicas auxiliares para ayudar a los conductores a conducir con seguridad. Piense acerca de los avisos en coches (y camiones) cuando el coche cruza una línea blanca continua, la información comunicada al conductor mediante un head-up-display en el parabrisas, los avisadores de ángulo muerto y los radares frontales de prevención de colisión. NZI Helmets ya presentó el primer casco con funcionalidades totalmente novedosas para un casco bajo el proyecto SAFERIDER donde, conjuntamente con otras 22 empresas sensibilizadas por aumentar la seguridad en las dos ruedas en el futuro, se adaptaron las tecnologías ADAS (Advanced Driving Aid Systems) y OBIS (On Board Information Systems) presentes en los coches a las motos. En la presentación del proyecto que se llevó a cabo en las pistas de pruebas de MIRA (UK) asistieron todas las empresas involucradas y se hicieron demostraciones de funcionamiento de todos los sistemas desarrollados y convenientemente integrados. En dichos sistemas, el casco era una herramienta fundamental en la transmisión de información de la moto al usuario convirtiéndose por ello en lo que se denomina HMI (Human Machine Interface) y convirtiéndose en un elemento fundamental en la seguridad activa del conjunto. Talking about active safety, there are interesting developments going on. In cars you can find more and more technical assistance systems to help the driver with the safety. Think of the warning you can get in cars (and trucks) when you cross a solid line, the information communicated to the driver by Head-Up-Displays in the windshield, the warnings for blind spots and the front radars to prevent colisions. NZI Helmets already presented the first helmet with totally innovative functionalities made for the SAFERIDER project. In this project, together with 22 companies preoccupied with the safety on two wheels in the future, the ADAS (Advanced Driving Aid Systems) and OBIS (On Board Information Systems) technologies were adapted from car use to motorcycle use. At the presentation of the project at the testing facilities of MIRA (UK) all the involved companies assisted and several demonstrations were held of the functionalities of all the systems developed and already integrated. In these systems, the helmet is a fundamental piece to transmit the information from the bike to the rider, thereby transferring the helmet into a HMI (Humand Machine Interface). The helmet is converted into a fundamental element of the active safety of the motorcycle/rider combination.

| Shells Carbon Fibre A full carbon bre helmet, like the RCV, assures that you have the lightest helmet possible, that still offers all the safety features required. The carbon fibre is not the only ingredient necessary to produce a light and safe helmet, the resin and the way of â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;buildingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; a helmet are also important. At NZI Helmets we use pre-impregnated laminates and the latest, in-house developed shell production technology. Composite Fibre A composite bre helmet is a light helmet that is fabricated with a composite of different bres, like carbon, aramid and glass fibre. Thermoplastic Part of the NZI Helmets is made of thermoplastic resin. Thermoplastic resin is melted and then injected into a mould under very high pressure, when it cools down the thermoplastic remains in the form of the mould. The difference between composite bre and thermoplastic helmets basically is a better resistance against impacts of the composite bre helmet when dealing with an equally heavy impact. Protective Inner Shell The shell of a helmet not only consists of the hard outer shell, but also of the softer inner shell, which actually is a very important part in protecting the head to impacts. This protection padding is made of expanded polystyrene and especially designed to absorb the energy necessary to slow down the head in anticipated conditions in case of an impact. ECE/UN R22.05 homologated All NZI Helmets are ECE/UN R22.05 homologated. This is the European Sandard and of the United Nations for motorcycle helmets. | Visors Thermoformed Most of NZI Helmets’ visors are thermoformed , a technique almost exclusively used by NZI Helmets. Various advantages are clear: thermoformed visors are superior in flexibility and breakage endurance with less thickness (less weight) and have higher grades of luminous transmission (the amount of light passing through the material). The thermoforming also allows for a coating that permits the use of the ‘Mist Retardant’ denomination for actual anti-fog visors. Mist Retardant The visors of all NZI Helmets’ full face helmets are Mist Retardant homologated, they comply with the voluntary part of the ECE R22.05 Standard about the fogging of the visors. It means that it takes significantly longer (longer than 20 seconds) for a NZI Helmet visor to lose more than 20% of the luminous transmission, the rider has more time to take measures against fogging. An average anti-fog coating only keeps fog away for less than 20 seconds. NZI Helmets was the first to comply with this voluntary part of the norm. 3D visor 3D visors give the best aerodynamic and vision performance. 2D visor A flat visor is needed to accommodate the Tear-Off plastics. Tear-Off The racing helmets from NZI are prepared for the use of Tear-Off plastics. These plastics, which you can tear off the visor are to keep a clear vision and protect the visor from oil, rubber, etc. One Push Sunvisor NZI Helmets uses his own system for the high end sunvisor helmets. The incorporated sunvisor is controlled by a One Push button in the chin bar, to allow a very quick and intuitive movement. For the flip-up helmets and some other helmets a lever is used. Outlast® Outlast® is a NASA developed material that maintains the temperature of the skin. The change of state from liquid to solid (or the other way around) needs a lot of energy. Outlast® performance is based on this basic physics law thanks to a material that changes state at 37,5ºC. Dry-Fast-Dry A high tech material that absorbs sweat to keep a dry head. Micrometric Quick Release The most comfortable and easy adjustable chin strap there is, easy to use, even with gloves. NZI Helmets uses this chin strap in all helmets except the racing helmets, in these helmets isused the Double-D system. Nose Protector Nose protectors are useful to conduct the external air to the shield area to avoid or delay fogging while riding with the visor closed.

One Push: NZI Helmets is the inventor of the One-Push ventilation controls. This system has the advantage that it is very user friendly, both with or without wearing gloves. The result of this user friendliness is that the rider doesn’t have to look for a small lever on the helmet and therefore spends less time with a hand of the steering bar, which increases safety. Air Inlets: To have effective ventilation it is imperative that the air actually enters the helmet. NZI Helmets uses high tech meshes inside the high end helmets which are very open but do not compress; the air can always flow freely through the helmet. Air Extraction: To have a good ventilation one of the most important features is the extraction of the air at the back of the helmet. The air extractor is the part that creates a flow of air through the helmet by facilitating hot air leaving the helmet.
