CURRENT STAMP ISSUE 80TH BIRTHDAY OF QUEEN ELIZABETH 11 Queen Elizabeth 11 is truly a monarch of her time. Born on 21 April 1926, she celebrates her 80th birthday this year - and a life in which she has achieved some memorable and important milestones. These include her
1947 marriage to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten and her accession to the Throne in 1953, together with the Golden Anniversaries of each event in
1997 and 2003 respectively. Today, the Queen continues to attend hundreds of public engagements every year - a commitment she has demonstrated since her teens, when she began to accept more public responsibilities as a member of the royal family. On the sudden death of her father in 1953, she made a personal dedication to the service of the Commonwealth. To record and applaud this dedication, New Zealand Post is proud to release a special commemorative stamp, with a 99% pure silver foil border. As a bonus for this issue there have been 5,000 numbered sheets made available. These will be supplied on a first come, first served basis. This stamp, produced jointly with fellow Commonwealth member Jersey Post, is beautifully presented in a presentation pack, along with a first day cover (bearing the New Zealand stamp) and a joint-issue miniature sheet.
